Hello Sam.....your far above the rest!!~..in rankin gs....

Hi, all...It´s a hot saturday afternoon here... my wife and daughters have just gone to shopping I´ve walked the dog already, all my friends are on the beaches, I´ve enough of playing my Eagle acoustic, no football on TV... there´s absolutely nothing to do... but ´there´s an exciting competition between " Monkees x Beatles " here on this thread and I can´t wait to see who´s winning re Monkees they were " created by american media " really, but the other side is that their songs - listen to " Last train " for example, are quite good so let´s watch the fight !!!!
-
Hi Starr. Yeas I´ve been visiting Tommy james site and it´´s great...I did the same on www.garylewisandtheplayboys.com and peternoone. It´s a pity The Pacemakers don´t have a site yet re old bands let´s not forget Sam the Sham and The Pharaos www.samthesham.com

Hi Sara how are you tdoay? Hello Christina,Sam the other Macca book you were mentioned in is called yesterday by Chet Flippo. Cesar speaking of Sam The Sham I love Lil Red Riding Hood. Funny thing is I thought it sounded like Mick Jagger singing when I first heard the song.
-
hi, Paulfan... maybe the poor " Lil red riding hood " was cold when the record was made lol
-
has anybody listened " Big city lights " by the Pharoes " ? It´s a great song but I could never hear it again since any of the compilations I ´ve ever seen included it ...the last time I heard it was .... 1967 [ not that I´m that old ] heh heh ....
-
Hi, Sam... no book at all untill now cry Maybe the postman daughter has just started reading it x or maybe they send the book by boat and it´s still in the middle of the ocean lol
-
Hi Samcat I disagree with you on three counts....at least. Firstly Buddy Holly was mixing orchesrtas with Rock well before The Beach Boys...and producing his own stuff. Secondly...The Beatles were doing close harmony vocals in 1961 long before America had even heard of them...or the Beach Boys. Thirdly....When Sergeant Pepper was released Mick Jagger and Roger Daltrey played it endlessly getting drunk as they did so. Mick commented. "We might as well pack in. We can't follow this..no one can." I've been reading all these comments by those trying to lift The Beach Boys and Monkees onto the same plane as The Beatles. Impossible !! If you all want to fully appreciate WHO and WHAT the Beatles were as regards to being trend setters then please read `Revolution In The Head' by the late Ian McDonald. Cheers Sam

Hi Cesar I sent two books via Airmail two weeks ago. I think you may be right about the Brazilian post office officials. Let's hope they arrive this week. And I can't believe all this stuff...I should say `guff'...trying to say Monkees and even The Beach Boys being the equal to The Beatles. The record books will back me and I don't count some bands bettering the Beatles for a few months. The only barometer worth considering are the record books. Beatles first...the rest a long, long way behind. And slipping further behind day by day. Cheers. Sam.

Hi everyone. There's been many posts in the last few days and I'll answer those that need a reply tomorrow. Keep the cauldron bubbling. Cheers. Sam.
-
Hi Sam I back your point on the Beatles -- I agree that no group came close to touching them. Although Sam C, I promise to take a listen to some of the Beach Boys later work. Cheers! Mike
-
Hello again. Someone way back said the first `Boy Band' was The Beatles. I don't think so !! Boy bands rely on sexual charisma, good looks and dance routines. The Beatles didn't go in for any of that..thank goodness. Although reasonably handsome they couldn't dance to save their lives. They merely relied on talent. Those were the days !! Cheers Sam.
-
Thanks Mike. I fully appreciate other people's opinions but there has to be a limit. The Beatles will be glorified 100 years from now. The rest will be relegated to mere footnotes. Cheers. Sam.

Hi Sam Hope your writing is coming along well. I am doing my own version of that -- have 2 more months of writing speeches, mail pieces -- am writing like crazy. Heck, if all that work though brings me back to the UK just a year after my previous trip -- I guess it's all worth it. Too bad Macca won't be touring in the spring hopefully he does tour in the fall, though! Cheers! Mike

Maybe so Cesar Lil Red Riding Hood may have been cold. Sam I agree that no one can match the Beatles. I've heard that saying about the Beatles being the first boy band,my cousin's husband thinks so. I know that people see Paul as a pretty boy type like David Cassidy or Donny Osmond which is why the Beatles to some are considred the first boy band. I donm't agree witht hat though as they could write, sing and play their own instruments. I did tell you that someone told me that they are overrated and think I Want Ot Hold Your Hand is crap lyrics which makes me laugh. I even read where somebody said of Paul anybody can write a song on three or four chords, but that makes me laugh. I'll ignore people who call the Beatles the first boy band as you said. It cracks me up. I'm glad nobody has compared N'Sync or the Backstreet Boys to the Beatles, that would be hilarious. I agree with you when the Beatles were popular were the days.

Sam Leach:
Mass post as I'm going out. Samcat: The Beatles were trend setters....never followers. Christina: (Harleyblues). I don't mind which path the thread goes down as it makes for a more interesting thread. It's all in good fun so let's treat it that way. They can't really be serious...right ?! Paulfan: Don't get too bogged down with this `Monkee Biz. Sara (Starr). The above goes for you too, heh, heh. Tashi, Vinny, Lisa, Linda and Kathy (who's gone back into hiding). I've seen all your posts and they're good. Love, Cheers and hugs. Sam xxxx
Hey Sam, hey all! Thanks for the extra post love there. Anyways, another exam comin' up. I'm trying my best to keep up...it's kinda hard. I don't really go into hiding. Really, why would I wanna hide from this place. Thanks for noticing my last post, that was really nice of you. I'm gussing I might be on Sunday, depends how my time is. Stupid exams...*grumble grumble*
Samuel Catalino:
Kat, Thanks for the kind remarks. I love the Monkees. I love the Beatles. I love the Beach Boys. Best, Sam C.
No problem. I love all three, too. I think that no one can match the Beatles though, but I do love them, don't get me wrong. Paulfan, that was very well said.

As well as Pet Sound inspired Sgt. Pepper's... Revolver inspired Pet Sounds! Actually musicians don't compete but learn from each other. Lennon and McCartney are the greatest example. I think that the only band that I can compare with The Beatles is Queen. According to musical talent. But they didn't have the "conceptual" impact of the Beatles. While Beatles set the standard that every band copied, Queen went with the flow.
-
Someone has to say the truth and this one will have to be myself. The only reason Paul McCartney once said Sgt Peppers album was inspired by Pet Sounds is to be nice to american people/ media. I have Pet Sounds CD and to be honest there´s nothing special even if you compare with a Rolling Stones album> I think the only american band that influenced the Beatles - and I mean Lennon - was the Byrds whose music was innovative

Songs that deserve to be considered at a Beatle level ( in my humble opinion ) 1- Mr Tambourine Man [ Dylan ] , by The Byrds 2- Lady Jane , Rolling Stones 3- paint it black, Rolling Stones 4- ferry cross the Mersey, Gerry and the Pacemakers ..................
