Video Game Music: "Destiny"

100% better! Love it! I didn't expect it to go this route -- but it's pretty epic.

Paul really should just offer this track as a free download. Why release it as a single? It has no chance of charting -- at all. David Bowie's first single after 10 years made it to No. 6 in the UK but that was because it was a total surprise and he got massive back-from-the-dead hype. Every single that Bowie's released since then has flopped and failed to chart anywhere in the top 100. Given that Bowie is hugely popular in the UK now and Paul is not these days, releasing this Hope single is just another swing and a miss. Old guys do not release singles that make the top 100, in the UK or the US. But I'm sure Paul will persist, release it as a single, and nothing will happen. Seems pointless. Just give it as free download.

It's definitely a long shot to chart. You bring up a good point: We shouldn't feel bad as McCartney fans when his songs don't chart, because no one else from decades gone by has charting singles either anymore, even when their albums do well. No Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand. I guess the best argument for putting this song out for a price is that it keeps it readily available if people want to get it in the future. They certainly went to a lot of trouble remixing this song to sound ultra-contemporary, so I guess maybe they feel they can recoup that cost, at least. I really hope they make the original orchestral version available too, though, since it's not on the soundtrack album.

What's the story with "Hope for the Future," a new Macca song, just found out about this on the Net. Thanks for info.

To recap: The remixed version (lots of guitars and beats, no orchestra) is supposed to be coming out December 8th, though it's not clear if that's just the U.K. That's a Monday, and new releases tend to come out on Tuesdays in the U.S. But the official McCartney emails are vague on the details. Direct quote: "There will be much more news about 'Hope For The Future' in the weeks leading up to Christmas so don?t forget to keep checking back to PaulMcCartney.com!" In the U.S., it would be very unusual to have a splashy new McCartney release this close to Christmas. It would be more in character to wait till the new year. Or maybe they don't have that much 'hope' for the song here, so they'll just let it out now. We shall see!

Great news. I still love the song. Thanks for the link.

Yes, excellent news! Five mixes, including the original, released worldwide December 8. Sounds good to me!

This U.S. music industry site lists "Hope" as available for airplay Dec. 8 -- http://www.fmqb.com/triplea.asp

Interesting that he created a female character: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/paul-creates-his-own-video-game-character-for-destiny

Thanks, Nancy! Just a reminder that the song is released tomorrow, December 8, always a poignant date for Beatle fans. But of course, it's "Hope For The Future," so perhaps appropriate?

I wonder if that date was in the back of anyone's mind when they thought of the release date? I can't believe it's been 34 years. I wonder if the track will get any attention. I'm skeptical, but I've been wrong before... I think...

'Hope For The Future' is available now on iTunes and Spotify

Just got the EP and listened. Main mix: the original mix from the game, with the orchestra Thrash mix: seems to be the version the BBC just played, with the thrashing guitars, but the beats and keyboards seem less prominent than I remember Beatsession mix: kind of a dub mix, light on vocals. Reminiscent of the Deliverance mix of "Hope of Deliverance". Jaded mix: more of a deep club mix, more vocals than the previous one Mirwais mix: similar to the main mix, but with heavier beats and electronic sound effects Hard to imagine any of these mixes fitting the format of any local stations I know, but hey, who knows! Not really featured at all on iTunes, even on Paul's page. I had to search to find it.

Will the digipack be available to download on Amazon (or similar), or is it only Spotify and Itunes? Does anyone know? Thanks.

Amazon in the US shows a 12-inch vinyl release for January 13, but it doesn't specify the tracks.

Looks very impressive, but he's still doing those "Ever Present Past" moves.
