What about Bob ! Anything new Mr. Gannom?
I have been laying low for awhile, have used up some big favors lately...don't want to make a pill of myself
How did the rehearsal go for the new Dos Equis MOST INTERESTING MAN ???? I think you got it hands down!
-
Thought it went well, they thought I was a little too young for the title though. The day I was there they also interviewed Al Pacino, Sean Connory and Pee Wee Herman. So just waiting to hear.

In the setlist thread, there is a link to a new Rolling Stone article/interview with Paul which says that the tour is going to end with the two Desert Trip shows. This is interesting because that means nothing after mid-October if that is true. So if there were plans to do any more gigs around the Desert Trip shows, they would have to fall in between or before..it seems weird to have just that one Sacramento show "out there."

I've not read the Rolling Stone article, but does the bit about the tour ending with the Desert Trip shows come directly from Paul or is it just a case of Rolling Stone looking at the tour dates, seeing that there is nothing currently scheduled after Desert Trip, and so just assuming that the tour ends there?

You are right,, it is not a direct quote from Paul so Rolling Stone may just be assuming this: McCartney and his band will be on the road through the summer and early fall, closing with two Saturdays in Indio, California, on October 8th and 15th as part of Desert Trip, the classic-rock cousin to Coachella. But it would be nice to know for sure. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/paul-mccartney-talks-summer-tour-new-pure-mccartney-comp-20160607

If Out There was any indication, One On One can go for about three years. In the interview, Paul says something to the effect of, all we have to do is change a few things, put in a couple of different tunes, and give it a new name. He's not even hiding it at this point!!

Maybe like John Lennon said in 1966 they could send waxwork models out in their place.

That Rolling Stone interview...where to start. The same old rubbish trotted out by him AND RS... I literally laughed out loud all through it. "We change it up so the audience doesn't get bored..." "we try to do something different for...fans other than Beatles and Wings." ... The story about Temp Sec, touring patterns... All the same guff, and he spouts as if what he's giving us in innovative, groundbreaking or radical. The bit about AHDN. Had me in stitches!!! Jeez it's all excruciating.
-
What I don't get about the RS interview is: what's the "message" between Temporary Secretary? It's not Tomorrow Never Knows or The End... What message?

The message is that there is no message!

He's almost 74. Do you really think he is going to change now? He has been doing his interviews this way forever, and he is a master at it. Sometimes he does have something new to say and we may get it full-on, or we might have to hunt for it in the small comments or between the lines.

Paul has forgotten more than he'll ever tell! Oh, the stories he probably has tucked in the corners of his brain!!

At this point everyone knows what to expect from his voice, song selection and most interviews. Expecting changes that he hasn't done in years is being very optimistic. You pretty much know going in what to expect.

The one random announced standalone gig for October makes me wonder if there was more planned, but put on hold after the problematic start of the current tour. Regardless, if he decides to go on with touring after 2016 after all this, I really hope they will plan the gigs more sensible like many of his peers do. No back to back gigs, no 4 gigs in a week, no traveling up and down in the middle of a tour, no "flying out in the afternoon, doing a long soundcheck and long gig somewhere in Europe, flying back home"-practices...

His vocals and the reactions to it. He even literally said in an interview that he had vocal problems in the build-up to it. Had, but it's obviously still really taking its toll, and for the first time the press and festival audiences are focussing on it. In between that and the shorter sets and the less excited performces than usual, it begins to feel to me he's got too much on his plate. Just a gut feeling, so I wondered if the tour announcement stop since a few weeks into the tour has anything to do with it.

Ah I see, the main issue I had with this tour was the setlist, as there were less Wings/Solo while songs liked Mr Kite stayed. And how the wasn't really anything that was new to hear. The video of him singing Can't Buy Me Love at Pinkpop was off, which was odd as the videos I saw him singing that song last year, he sang it no problem. But someone I know who was at Prague said he was great and some of the videos he had, he sounded pretty good. Maybe he wants to change it completely (I said very very optimistically)?

That's my main issue with the setlist as well: so many insignificant Beatles tunes while songs like 'Penny Lane' and 'For No One' aren't even part of the set, and while his solo career gets overlooked. But this is nothing new, and arguably was even worse during the 'Out There' days. From that perspective the current setlist is much better. But yeah, for those who want to hear a fresh show every time are better off only seeing him once in 3/4 years, and next time he will be pushing 80... And unfortunately every pro-shot of 'Can't Buy Me Love' since the song came back was pretty disastrous, apart from the - though it was edited - magic in the air at the Budokan. But since this year on top of that he's got a shakiness ("lo-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ve") which wasn't there before this tour kicked off. The difference in joy, bass playing and vocals on that tune are like night and day in comparison with the previous outings in 2009.

I understand about it being mostly Beatles just as long as I get to hear songs I haven't heard before. I was happy with the solo stuff I heard; Listen to What the Man Said, Hi Hi Hi, New, Save Us, Queenie Eye, Hope For the Future, My Valentine, Another Day & the debut of Temporary Secretary. That's a good batch of songs for me & the addition of Beatles songs, was a good balance. While I'll still go to this show I'll only hear about 7 new songs. Nobody was asking for I've Got a Feeling Back, don't know why that was back as it had a good run from 05-12
