Remembering Linda

I just watched a great interview of Paul from 1984 and he was asked “Why Linda?” He answered “Woman. She was a woman, not a girl. And kind. She was very kind.” (I’m paraphrasing) Here’s the interview. He was so cute and funny! They had to cut some stuff out and mute parts so it wouldn’t get taken down, but the entire interview is there.
Thanks so much for sharing this, Nancy! I think another reason Paul loved Linda so much is because she was always herself, a very genuine and natural person. And in saying she's a woman, he could have meant she was mature enough in her thinking that he could trust she loved him for him, not for what he was, and would always take good care of him and provide a comfortable and stable home life, etc.
You’re welcome!
Plus, he could already see the kind of mother she was, and I think that really appealed to him. (And he fell in love with Heather too and immediately wanted to adopt her)

This has been posted before, but this is a recently restored home video of Paul and Linda, probably taken in 1997/1998. Another thing that was great about their life together was that they shared a wonderful sense of humor.

Yes, they gave him a sense of family. He had always been close to his extended family growing up, so that probably meant alot to him, to find someone that he could set down roots with.

I don’t remember ever seeing that! Great video! You know if she was still with us, he’d still be with her and about to mark their 50th wedding anniversary! ️

Thanks Nancy, glad you liked the video!
Yes! just a little over 2 months from now will be their anniversary. Hard to believe it was that long ago! Even though I was only 8 years old at the time I still remember reading about it in the newspapers and seeing the news on TV (Yes, I read newspapers at 8, I was a very precocious child )

^ I did too at age 8. I started cutting stuff about the Beatles out of the newspaper when I was 8 in Dec. 1963! And 55+ years later, I’m still collecting clippings, magazines, etc. Who woulda thunk it?

It's interesting, both Yoko and Linda were creative artists (thinking Linda with her photography), and both had been divorced with a small daughter at the time they became involved with the loves of their lives, but other than that, they were very different too. I don't know if they ever became close friends like John and Paul were, but it's nice to see photos of them from that time.

Paul's gray hair looks great in this.

Yes, Linda was a creative artist--a musician and singer, photographer, created veggie dishes and designed colorful and beautiful scarves, too, among other creative endeavors. She wrote original songs, too. And co-wrote some songs with Paul on "Ram" and maybe other albums. She co-wrote some songs with her best female friend. Linda was a lifelong avid music lover, described hiding under the bedcovers listening to her little transitor radio late at night, as a child. She said being beside Paul on stage listening close up as he played his music was undescribable, unearthly, like nowhere else on earth. The best place in the world to be. She created beautiful children with Paul (and with her first hubby) and raised them naturally and creatively. I guess Linda and Paul were about 50 years old in that picture with Paul with gray hair...in their early 50's; great photo I've never seen previously. Thanks for that. I've seen that pic before w/ her and Yoko sitting on the ground at Tittenhurst. Linda was pregnant in that photo.
Stella has said Linda was very creative with her clothes, with fashion. and inspired her. Wearing 1940s hairstyles and dresses, etc. Linda inspired Mary with her photography and James with her music, and Heather is a designer of ceramics, pots and little sculptures, houseware and such. Yoko of course is more of an "avant garde" performance art type artist and also writes songs and records them on albums and streaming.

Appreciated reading your sweet comments, Susy, and agreed with everything you said. I feel Linda was meant to be with Paul, and to inspire the children she raised, and to make the world a much better place. She really helped people to want to eat more healthy, and also worked tirelessly for animal right as well. And her photography has inspired so many people to want to be photographers as well. We could go on and on about her talents and achievements, but I'm so glad she was there at just the right time for Paul, when he was going through so much with the breakup of the Beatles. She was such a strength and support to him. I'd hate to think what his life would have been like without her!
This is my favorite photo of them, taken by daughter Mary.

Yes, she delivered Mary 6 days later on Aug. 28, 1969!

This is a photo I haven't seen before... there's another one that's very similar that's been posted, but thought this was very sweet of Linda and baby Mary!

She rivaled St. Francis of Assisi in her love for animals.

Yes, that's very true!

Mary, Linda and Paul (circa 1991?)

Not sure when this was taken, maybe someone knows, but haven't seen this one before.

In top photo, Mary looks so cute, such an adorable baby.

Linda is probably holding a copy of one of her cookbooks
