"APPRECIATE" NEEDS TO BE A SINGLE! IT WOULD GET
-
Appreciate would have made a statement as a first single... although, it's not exactly something he could have done live on Jimmy Fallon, etc... not without pre-recorded accompaniments.... which we leave for the likes of (insert country) Idol/X factor/(Insert Country)'s Got Talent..... but now would be perfect timing. I love the song.

Me too! It's my favorite on the album!

While nowhere close to my favorite tune on the album, it would be interesting to see what radio made of a single that's totally out of the mold for McCartney. It's not impossible that it would have caught on, but you never know. I think several tracks could have easily been top 10 had they been released back in the '70s, but that was a very different world.
-
"Road" is very different for McCartney too Maybe they should have released that as a single, too--but I absolutely adore "New"--might have blown more than a few minds if the singles were "Road" and "New"--"Road" is weirder (coming from Paul) than "Appreciate"
-
I love the weird, otherworldly sound effects and embellishments in "Appreciate"--reminds you of some of the B-52's oddities, but with that special Paul magic
-
Doubt this will be a single.

I can always listen to the entire cd, although sometimes I skip over "On My Way to Work" and "Scared." I like to lie in bed before sleeping and listen through headphones. I've fallen asleep while listening, and then woke up to be on a song at the last and realized I didn't hear the missed songs while sleeping, which seems odd. They were playing in my head through the headphones and yet I didn't hear them at all, while asleep

Tastes do vary. "On My Way to Work" is one of 3-4 songs on the album I can't imagine ever skipping.

We all doubt it too--we just wish it would be released as a single!

Pretty Little Head was released as a single... the third one from Press to Play, from memory....you'd hope Paul realised this one could succeed tenfold on what he was trying to achieve there! .... Not sure we will get anymore singles after the third one.... this is his last chance to drive sales for the album... even if Queen's Another One Bites The Dust was the fourth single from that album and went number one and is heralded as one of their greatest. Appreciate is "different" so I would love to see what it could achieve.

Yes, it would be an interesting experiment, if nothing else - for me it's as good, if not better, than the rest of 'em.

On My Way To Work is one of the best songs on NEW by a (heart of the) country mile. It did take me quite a few listens to get hooked, but it's a very moving song indeed.

I'm afraid that no matter what single Paul releases, it's going to be vastly ignored by radio. I have now accepted that it is an utter waste of time for Paul McCartney to release a single.

Cool. And I want to be a millionaire!

Yup. You said it correctly.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. The video for Queenie Eye has over 2 million views, and the single has been heard on radio by hundreds of thousands at least. Not a Katy Perry level of exposure, but better than nothing.
-
I love "On My Way to Work"--it's just that if I want to hear a certain song I might skip something but certainly would never skip "On My Way to Work" every time. I do love "Early Days" more than "Work," that doesn't mean I don't admire "Work" and never want to hear it. I've skipped "Looking at Her" before to get to something else--I've even skipped "Appreciate" a couple times. It's allowed. If you really want to hear something in particular and don't want to wait.

Those numbers are OK, if we're talking about some indie band. For Paul McCartney? Unacceptable. And, considering the marketing that went into the album -- not to mention the most in-demand producers working today -- those numbers are insulting. I just wish I could directly ask all the program-directors out there: Why in the hell do you guys consistently diss Paul McCartney? Whenever he stops by a radio station or does a phone-interview, radio staffers/air talent are gushing all over the man, and yet, his consistently superb solo albums seem to be downright toxic to them.

Audi, I didn't say the numbers were what Paul deserves, but it IS more exposure than he'd get without releasing a single, therefore singles are not a waste of time, much as we wish radio programmers would wake the eff up.
