Exciting New peradventures of James Paul McCartney...

This is slightly OT, but nobody has (to my knowledge) mentioned the very beginning of the Opening Ceremonies where they talked about "Centuries of Beautiful Minds--William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, Jane Austen, Charles Darwin, JOHN LENNON, PAUL MCCARTNEY"!!!!

Podgie what did you think of the opening? lotta commercials n chopped I thought
Man, that's a tough question. Definitely too many commercials on US TV, I just got get a DVR and watch the next day (Speeding thru commericals). I liked The Smokestacks going up and the forging of the rings, didn't understand and thought they showed too much of the guys in tophats walking around looking pompous. Too many kids in beds, actually too many people, which just made it all a bit chaotic. Wanted a real battle with Mary Poppins against Voldermort and the bad guys, flames, fire, sparks, smoke...kind of a letdown, just watching them deflate. I figure the NHS thing, although ridiculous and out of place, was just to say to the people who were complaining about all the money spent on the event, "Hey, shut up, your healthcare if free!" Loved Mr. Bean, by far the best part of the ceremony! He was brilliant! After Mr. Bean it seemed to go downhill to me. That whole Frankie and Johnnie bit, I didn't get, it was just chaos with music. I didn't care for it. I slept thru the endless parade of nations. I was woken up in the middle of The Arctic Monkeys doing "Come Together", a Beatle song without Paul. What gives?!!! Paul as always was great! I've heard the song done the same way a gazillion times, haven't we all by now? How many billions were they saying were watching? Okay, now drop it from the setlist, and add "Beautiful Night" as a closer (with or without special guest Ringo). You've already seen my comment about the jacket with the gap. If Stella had Paul wear a Union Jack shirt, which showed when the gap opened I would have thought it was Brilliant, like "Oh the gap was intentional". If I was there I would have offered my suggestion, in a pinch, run to any souvenir stand and get a "Mind The Gap" T-shirt. Why Paul doesn't have minds like mine working for him, I just don't know. WIsh they had Dr Who and Monty Python represented. Oh yeah, and the Short Olympic torch looks like fire on top of a hay stack, man it should tower above the stadium. I never saw the Yellow Submarine Balloons, I think that was cut out of the US broadcast. The Sgt Pepper group walking in just didn't work, didn't seem any had the proper haircut and mustache, and the George's should have had hats. : )))) Just my random thoughts. I don't think I heard John Lennon and Paul McCartney mentioned with the great names, although I may not have been paying attention. Podgie (Captain of the US Sedentary Couch Potato Team) Monkey

freakin NBC cut two segments from the ceremonies.. Twitter has been on fire re? thisand the poor coverage.. I didn't get to hear Paul say " N you were grear N you were great ' he was cut off .. than pans to BCostas... damn I hated the baby & bouncing kids nurse on beds.. there were commercials every few secs it seems? Paul wasn't as bad as some ranting onthe board thought he was.. perhaps stage fright? lol at your siggy line..

I didn't hear that. So Paul was the only "beautiful mind" in the opening. BTW. If Lennon (another "beautiful mind") would have been on stage he would have agreed with Paul "F*** the playback, let's do it live". I don't know what George or Ringo would have thought about it, but knowing the Beatles... Memorable (In the end the whole ceremony was the best pre-show Paul has ever had :lol I could only remind a similar thing (but much much less smaller in relevance). Nirvana wanting to play live in the MTV, but MTV insisting in them lyp-synching, in the end they kind of agreed that Kurt sang but the rest being a backing track and they did this.

Hey, this month is the anniversary of a controversial time for The Beatles. Yeah, the "We're More Popular than Jesus" quote. Funny, how trivial it is looking back now! The great thing now is that internet technology today actually proves that John Lennon was right. Podgie (at least more popular on Facebook) Monkey

I saw something similar, but related to the number of Google searches for both Jesus and The Beatles. This is great, though.

Hey, did anyone hear about that fresco painting at a church in Spain, that an old lady decided to restore herself. Quite, a story. This was her end result: I actually applaude her effort. This is coming from a Monkey that, if you look back thru pages of this thread, has improved and fixed many a fine works of art. After all, who else has put arms back on to the Venus DeMilo, and improved such works as "The Scream"? (I even offered my version as a replacement when one of the originals was stolen!) Why, this ladies work Just needs a bit more Podgie pizzazz. A few brush strokes later and...Viola!... Man, better than new!!! It's a miracle!!! Why I bet with this hanging in the church, cripples will come in and throw away their crutches! Podgie (the Devine Fix-It all) Monkey
