The Art of McCartney- Tribute album
-
I was looking forward to this record, but it's been so long that I guess it won't be released. Hearing KISS do "Rockshow" and B.B. King do "Let Me Roll It" sounded like a fun listen. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/paul-mccartney-tribute-album-walk-of-fame-288598 Anyone have any updates on the album?

Note: there is a super-deluxe ($$$) edition of this thing being sold on amazon. If anyone is interested, they're charging $199.99 for this (!). However, right now, amazon.ca has the exact same item for the equivalent price of $120: http://www.amazon.ca/McCartney-Deluxe-Amazon-Exclusive-Tracks/dp/B00NF4POM2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410278550&sr=8-1&keywords=Art+of+mccartney Lately, amazon.ca has had highly discounted prices on deluxe sets, but these only last for hours/days before they jump way up. I got both upcoming Wings deluxe sets for under $50 (US) and the upcoming Dylan 6cd set for under $95 (US). The latter has since increased nearly 50% in price.... Moral is: if you think there's ANY CHANCE you might want the deluxe, order NOW. You'll still have two months to cancel...

Why do you keep quoting me? We're talking about different items. Yes, there are cheaper versions. NO, the iTunes version does not have all the songs, nor all the content of the deluxe...

Thank you, Eric in Boise!! I ordered through Amazon Canada. As you said, I can always cancel if I need to, but I can't see beating that price! For me, in the U.S., it's over $100 less than the price in the official Art of McCartney website store: http://store.digitalstores.co.uk/theartofmccartney/ Just a note: the iTunes version does not have ALL tracks. They have 36. The only way to get all 42 tracks is in the Super Deluxe set with the CDs and vinyl. The Amazon Canada order says there are 2 exclusive bonus tracks, but I wonder if it's the same two bonus tracks that are on the iTunes version, because those two tracks are already in the Super Deluxe set. It's going to take a while for all the details to shake out on this, I'm sure! And again, the official site for this project is here: http://theartofmccartney.com

Ok, this looks really good! Matchups that immediately caught my eye are... Band On The Run and Letting Go by Heart - These ladies are real deal rockers so this should really be good. Juniors Farm by Steve Miller - Oh yeah, the way Miller plays guitar, this should rock. Venus and Mars/Rockshow by Kiss - Should bring the party. Let Me Roll It by Paul Rodgers - One of the most exciting for me, Mr. Rodgers is one of the absolute best singers period, and he can really sing the blues, so this should be exceptional. Helen Wheels by Def Leppard - It should definitely rock. Jet by the Cheap Trick guys - more bonafide rockers, just excellent. Hi Hi Hi by Joe Elliot - Should really rock. Let Em In by Dr. John - His New Orleans sound will make this very interesting. So Bad by Smokey Robinson - This song has been popular with African Americans from the beginning, so Smokey covering it is no surprise, and it should really be good. On The Way by B.B. King - A real blues man covering a blues song by McCartney, literally can't wait to hear it. Birthday by Sammy Hagar - This will be all out hard rock, another highlight. These are the kind of artist I've always wanted to cover McCartney's material, this is an absolute must buy for me!

Not close enough for me, haha. Out of the missing tracks, I'm curious to hear Wanda Jackson doing "Run Devil Run," since Paul did her song "Party" for that same album. Very intrigued on the main set to hear Smokey Robinson do "So Bad."

Good observation about Wanda Jackson.

Does anybody smell a possible tribute concert? Like the the one for Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary in '92?

Always thought "On the Way" is a hidden gem, can be a great blues number Now with BBKing doing it, hopefully it will get what it deserves. I cant wait to listen to it. Glad most of the songs are from solo McCartney also

http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=2810688#2810688 Oh, I was here!
nobodytoldme:
This is the long, long rumored project where Rusty Anderson, Brian Ray, Wix and Abe Laboriel, Jr. were working on for years. When I was at Rock En Seine, Paris last month, the promo was being displayed on the screens all the time. Seeing the familiar faces, from Brian Wilson to Roger Daltrey, I immediately knew this was the project mentioned earlier, and was surprised to hear the very first substantial information on the finalized product over at a festival. Looking at the tracklist, it's looking way better than what was expected. I was afraid as how these kind of projects normally turn out: tired baby boomers/rock dinosaurs doing safe and slick post-prime versions of beaten to death songs with studio musicians, but the tracklist is looking decent and a few current interesting artists took a shot too. Regardless of the turn-out, these will be a treat: Bob Dylan - Things We Said Today Steve Miller - Junior?s Farm Brian Wilson - Wanderlust Smokey Robinson - So Bad Toots Hibbert with Sly & Robbie - Come And Get It B. B. King - On The Way
