My gosh, why on earth have so many variations? I kind of understand the "standard" and "deluxe" marketing, but all of these?? Anyway, mine is at home, I will listen after work!
Seriously! If you're a completist, you'll be spending something like $500 to get all of this, with Paul's voice nowhere to be found.
I wouldn't pay $500 even with Paul's voice!

I got the 2CDs + DVD and it has C Moon and Put It There.
-
hmmm some of these look interesting the cure with james mccartney kiss doing rock show and i would like to hear what c moon by robrt smith would sound like
-
I just watched the DVD documentary, it's pretty cool. A lot if info from the producer as to why he asked the artists he did to participate, and some footage of a few of them recording and being interviewed. So far, I am VERY happy with this collection.

Just noticed this. So was this from Amazon? Glad you're happy with it. My "Exclusive Deluxe" may be delayed from Canada, so I'll have to wait a bit.

USA Today highlighted a track from the new tribute album: "On The Way", as performed by BB King. I was totally unfamiliar with the song. Didn't know when Paul had sung the song...which album it was on, or anything about it. To my surprise it's on "McCartney II"!! Guess it's time for me to just buy that CD/album and get familiar with it. I have always said I didn't like it....mostly because "Temporary Secretary" got stuck in my mind and I couldn't get past that...which I recall NOT liking. Anyway, just listened to both Paul's and BB King's versions. Great blues song!!! I'm wondering why BB King didn't cover it years ago...or maybe he did. By the way, USA Today (the person who highlighted the subject song) called the tribute album..."uneven". No actual review of the album. Guess I'll have to buy it and decide for myself...along with McCartney II.

I just have to say this. Chrissy Hydne's performance of Let it Be WOULD have been good. But that hiccup was just so horrible it ruined it for me. Hiccups are for playful buddy holly songs, not beautiful piano ballads. I just can't......

I listened to the whole thing a number of times and a lot of it is good, but so little is great. Maybe people who aren't familiar with Paul's larger catalog will like it and be exposed to new things, but I really think it did his whole career a disservice. Here's the review I did on my site: http://wp.me/p5kfci-1fH. I'm not sure what other reviews have been saying (I stayed away from them since I was writing one myself), and perhaps I was too harsh on it. I just wish there was more exposure to some of the rarer, and better cuts. Also, the balance between current and veteran artists felt off to me, especially since some people performed more than once. And so few of them felt like fresh interpretations. I think that was even more obvious if you've seen Paul live recently or listened to GENYC since his band's arrangements on the songs the perform are so similar to what we're hearing from Paul. And if it's just going to be the same except for a different singer, why not just listen to Paul, since his version is clearly the best anyway?[/list]

Yup, me too. REALLY can't decide whether this super deluxe is worth having, even at the cheaper Amazon.ca price... Will I ever listen to this thing? Do I care about an "audio documentary" on the making of it? What to do? Probably could still cancel, but should I?

I'll admit I'm not 100% decided myself. Very cool-looking package, but is it worth the price, not to mention the space it will take up in my house?!

I disagree. If they did rarer songs, no one would buy it. Just go to a Paul concert and you will understand this. As far as listening to Paul's "better" versions, I have heard them millions of times and, frankly, don't listen to them anymore. So, this tribute collection has me A) listening to Paul music again, and B) considering going back and listening to his originals. Maybe that is also the purpose of all this, to get some promotion for Paul's solo material. I don't know. Who out there expects a tribute collection to surpass the original? I've never heard that happen in my life.

I see your point. If these songs get people to listen to Paul again, in whatever context, then it's done a good job. And many of the songs are quite enjoyable, even when they don't veer far from the original arrangement. Despite the issues I had with it, I do think it's worth buying. I've been to plenty of Paul concerts and am always disappointed when people lose interest in the new stuff (seems like the ones who are really into it are the die-hards and a surprisingly large number of younger fans). I don't think it's because the music isn't good, but it's just not known. If a few of these were stuck in with the pre-1980 songs that dominate here, it might encourage more people to give the newer stuff a chance. This compilation practically neglects 30 years of output. And personally, I listen to Paul enough that when I was listening to this, the straight-on covers kind of faded into the background, while the ones that really stood out were when the artists took an already-brilliant song (like "Bluebird") and made it into something totally new. But again, if it exposes more people to Paul, that's always a good thing!

Turns out my credit card has already been charged, so I don't think I'll try to cancel, especially with RMartinez's recommendation, and others'. Besides, the total of $122 (with shipping and currency exchange) total for the super deluxe was an awesome deal. Hard to pass up!

I was listening to this CD in my car, and it really shows what a brilliant songwriter Paul McCartney is. I already KNOW he is, but as I have said, hearing another singer interpret his songs shows things about the SONGS I had never heard or forgot. When Paul sings them, I am more apt to listen to his voice. For example, I really enjoy KISS's version of Rock Show, as it sticks to the studio version. I listened to Wings' studio version in 1975 and 76 a lot. But when WOA came out, I essentially stopped listening to the LP version, as the live version was so "LIVE!" Now, I realize what a brilliant recording the studio version is and want to hear it again after all these years.

Well, I pulled the plug on my order just now. It looked like a nice set, but the incoming reviews aren't that good (critics, fans, Amazon, etc). The "audio documentary" holds even less interest than the repackaged BOTR "audio doc" included with that album for me. Plus the eight bonus tracks on the deluxe aren't all that special, as they've been doled out in pairs to Best Buy, Amazon, Target & iTunes, anyway. Even their cute little Hofner usb manages to be RIGHT-handed and not include the bonus songs (!). Hope you enjoy it, and glad you got the cheap(er) deal on Amazon.ca, but I think this one just isn't for me...

I listened to more of this, Paul Rogers on Let Me Roll it KILLS!! Roger Daltrey on Helter Skelter!! DAMN!!!

Guess what, I was still able to cancel, so I did. Thanks for the info. I'll get all the songs between the other exclusives. I can buy the physical copies of the Best Buy and Target versions (Target has free shipping on everything at the moment), and just download the Amazon and iTunes bonus tracks individually. I may miss out on the DVD, but that's okay. Saves me about $80!

DVD is OK. It's about the MUSIC! Ha ha!! I drive an hour each way to work, so my CDs of this collection will be getting a real work out this week.
