Michelley:
Great collaboration. Here's what Spin Magazine wrote about it (and called Paul's set and the new "Sirvana" song the No. 1 and No. 2 most memorable things about the 12/12/12 show:
1. Paul McCartney plays "Helter Skelter," a couple of Wings songs and "Blackbird" before pausing to explain what we all know is coming: "So I showed up like you do, ready to jam, and in the middle of it, these guys kept saying, 'Well, we haven't played together for years.' So you know, the penny finally dropped and I finally understood that I was in the middle of a Nirvana reunion." 2. So he brought in not just Dave Grohl, not only Krist Novoselic, but Pat Smear too, and Sirvana ripped through their one and only (as far as we know) original song which is called "Cut Me Some Slack" (by the way) even though Macca kept howling (awesomely) while holding his own in shredding duels with Novoselic amidst the fantastic pummel laid down by Grohl and Smear on drums and bass, of course. As predicted, the song was indeed heavy. It fr-eaking slayed, in fact, and once it was played, nothing else mattered.
Yeah I saw the video earlier today and it's definitely a rocking song and Paul sounds very good. Incidentally I probably would have called them "NirMacca".

It sounds like a leftover from The Fireman! Not that it is a bad thing, but unless this is on the new "rock album" that's been coming, I won't be buying it. After a second listen, it really just isn't special at all. I think the circumstances in which it exists are just special. However, it does give me hope for songs like "Oh! Darlin" and "Old Siam Sir" to see the limelight one day!

JennyLP:
"Cut Me Some Slack" will be included on the soundtrack of Grohl's new movie, "Sound City Movie."
Due out in February, correct?

Yes, I just read that on facebook...and took a sigh of relief. I don't think we'll hear anything more...recorded or live, from this unique lineup (thank God!)

Which is a shame, as they were great last night and I LOVE the song. Right up my alternative and grunge music-loving alley.

blue jay hey:
its not a nirvana song
The more I think about it, I think this is a very important point to make. Its not a Nirvana song. and the references to the Nirvana reunion are sort of a misnomer IMO and can be percieved as a slight to Kurt, who was infact Nirvana. I know Paul said he was in the midst of a Nirvana reunion, and from his perspective that was true. and it was fine for him to say it during the performance because in fairness to the other members of the band, they were part of Nirvana. But I hope when all is said and done its remembered as a simple collaboration between Paul, Dave, Krist and Pat. And I hope when it's released on iTunes or when it's credited in the Soundtrack to whatever it will be in, I hope the term Nirvana is nowhere to be seen. It's a great jam though, and I would love to see those players work together again, and write something more melodic also. SO MUCH POTENTIAL there its freightening, cause those guys know how to rage! that band with Paul's melodies, could be scary. but it's not a Nirvana song. Does that go without saying? Just keeping it real for my boy Kurt. peace and appreciation for what and who Nirvana really was. there would be no chance for a reunion if it wasn't for Kurt, who was infact the frontman, the heart, the songwriter and the visionary of that band. That being said, good for those guys. That was a lot of fun to see last night. and I will be revisiting all my Nirvana stuff again now, totally inspiring. and I can't wait to download that song they did!

Dave and Krist were very careful to not call it a Nirvana reunion. I'm sure Courtney was watching carefully from her padded room, just ready to sue them if they had. Paul was the one who made references to it being a reunion, as did the press. I'd prefer that it not be called a reunion, either, in deference to Kurt, but Kurt was also the one who made the choice he did, as much as I do truly love and admire the guy. Gone too soon. In any case, it's great to see those guys together again, and knowing that they can still kick some a$$ together. Just beautiful to see, and I'm ecstatic that I was there to see it. Also glad it's appearing in Dave's documentary. Just can't believe they did it, answering all of my pleas to the universe for the past 20 years.

Seriously, seeing those guys on stage again together gave me goose bumps, some tru excitement! a lot of memories. I had heard it was going to happen too, just a rumor a friend passed along to me about an hour from showtime. and I thought, no way... Amazing you were there walliebaby! Great move, that concert was one for the ages. maybe even the best show ever, if you ask me. But seriosuly, who invited Kanye... that guys extremely talented but I have no use for him.

When I heard the rumor of the "reunion" around 11 p.m. the night before, it doomed me to being on the edge of my seat all day, hoping it was true, lol. I couldn't have been more excited when Paul started announcing their names--I even recorded him announcing the song even though I knew it was being broadcast live and I could watch it in better quality later. One of the performers called the show "the biggest collection of aging British musical acts" and it was pretty close to that, but that's exactly what I wanted to see, as those acts plus the "up and comers" who were there were &()&ing amazing. Minus Kanye.

No kidding! and when I heard the rumor I automatically thought of Krist and Dave, totally forgetting the In Utero line-up with Pat Smear added. man that old Nirvana band was tight and loud! and Paul kicked it with them, I am all out so impressed. it was awesome. I want to buy one of those guitars Paul played with them, that was bad ass and somehow seems very In Utero Can you imagine how sweet that initial meeting between the 4 of them must have been in Dave garage? I think thats where I heard it occurred, do you have any info there, as far as where their first jam session and meeting happened?
-
Absolutely Amazing... I didn't know what to expect, but I loved it!! I hope Paul's next album has at least one song with hints of this...
-
-
It was horrendous!! Not my cup of tea...like Helter Skelter but worse
-
The In Utero line-up back in the day.
