A new version of "Heart Of The Country" by Paul
-
I agree about him sounding old, but he's nowhere near as bad as Bowie sounds now. As said before he is old now, his voice at 70 is what we will have to get used to.
-
I don't think that enough of us are taking into account that this new version is in a totally different key. Was it the best choice? Probably not. Still, this panic is much ado over very little.

Surely it's too early to judge Bowie's current voice? He's only brought out 1 song so far and apparently he wanted to sound tired and weary on it to suit the song. His new album is said to have some rockier songs on it so we can see if he's really lost it or not.

Hmm all this has Paul lost his voice/it sounds terrible business is an odd one for me. Whilst he has not got that boyish smooth lilting voice anymore (he hasn't since about 1986) I think his rock rasp is probably as strong as ever. When I've played the albums since Chaos around the house my Mother who is just the right age to be a Wings fan (she's 55) has remarked a couple of times about how she never really rated Paul as that great a singer in the past and that now his voice has more character and he emotes the songs better. It's an interesting one. Of course a part of this business could be that the people who take a great deal of notice or who are hugely bothered are probably the Paul fans who were young in 1976 or 1990 or whenever and they themselves are not as good as they were and are not too comfortable with being old/their own mortality and everything else was better back then. That's just an opinion. I think he sounds just great from all the boots of the recent shows I've heard. I have no problem with him sounding old. He is old. Play this from the 4:40 mark.
There is some truth to what your mom says. When I first heard Paul's version of "Always" from KOTB, I found the creakiness in Paul's voice painful. But I listened to the album the other night for the first time in a month or so and found the song incredibly moving. Had he recorded it 40 years ago it absolutely would have sounded prettier, but at 70 he can inhabit these songs in a way that almost no one can at age 30. Most 30 year olds just haven't lived enough.

I love this version. A nice surprise. Great to see Paul giving some time, consideration, and respect to a song from his solo catalog. I think the recording is loose and charming (and the video doesn't hurt, either). It's got a positive vibe to it. When Paul connects with this sunny creativity, in a way that only he can truly channel, I like to think of it as the "Tao of McCartney". Irresistable good energy. Here's hoping that his upcoming album will have the same whimsy and sense of fun.

The promotional campaign is in full swing now for the Linda McCartney Foods promotion linked to this new video/track. There's was a major three page spread focussing on Mary McCartney's role as the "Face" of Linda McCartney foods with interview, competition and sample recipes in the 28th January edition of the UK free newspaper The Metro. They have an on-line version: http://metro.co.uk/2013/01/28/listen-first-here-to-paul-mccartney-and-mark-ronsons-heart-of-the-country-3368928/ http://metro.co.uk/2013/01/28/mary-mccartney-being-vegetarian-has-never-been-about-being-righteous-3368182/ Competition - http://metro.co.uk/mccartney As a UK newspaper it's highly likely entrance is limited to UK residents but the terms and conditions are unclear. McCartney recording his remake of 'Heart Of The Country' last year.Man, everytime I hear this song I feel so happy! I was wondering, when Paul walks around hitting on the walls and stuff is he checking the acoustics of the room for sound quality? I know NOTHING about this kinda stuff but I know some of you music people will know the answer. Thanks.

That's what I also thought at first, especially since he was clapping, but he's looking for a good sound to bang on as 'drum' part for the new rendition of the song.

Cool that so many "takes" are showing up. There is the full length one with the voice over for the Linda McCartney food line under Fi.lm for Linda

Does anyone think that cool 60's chick with the big afro, looks a bit like Nancy? Or maybe an Eve with that snake around her neck... If it was Nancy... that would be cool that he is including her in with all the other characters

I guess only Paul knows. Could be an old, or new friend, as he has many friends. Doesn't look like Nancy to me.

This video is very cool Every time I look at it, I see something else. Did anyone else notice the giant face at the end with the eye, peaking behind the asparagus forrest? Also the blue horse that runs quickly through the scene and then there was a Dalmatian... did Paul & Linda own one? Upon looking again, I don't think that looks like a 60-70's Nancy either. Does that large foot and face look like it's from Maurice Sendak? That animator did a great job

Does anyone know what guitar model Paul is playing on this song? I see, from the video, that it is a parlor guitar, but I just can't tell what brand and model it is. I love the sound.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if he put it in his future tours setlist? One can dream.
