Paul's upcoming album review they say its HOT!
-
Maybe this is too philosophical but Paul is a deep man... Why would want Paul to have a #1 or an album that sells millions? What would be the reason behind it? Fame and fortune? To attract atention? Artistic recognition? Is it he likes to do it but he just doesn't know why or so? In the last Rolling Stone interview Paul said something like (this is English to Spanish to English translation lol) "I'm tired of competitions, I've had enough competitions in my life". Maybe it's not about being "#1" in the charts and it's about his competition with John Lennon to make the best songs. Anyway the question is why? Why would Paul want to be "#1"? (He's already #1, I mean, he's the best, I just mean #1 in the charts, up there like Pitbull, Rihanna and the rest...)

Maybe he looks at people like Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Tony Bennett, Bob Dylan, and Neil Diamond having #1 albums in recent years, and he says, "Why not me?"

Why would McCartney want a #1 hit, very simple. It is a thing called ego and if you don't think he has a huge one than I beg to differ with you.

"...marketing malpractice..." -- you crack me up, Bruce.
Hehe. Hey, I do public relations for a living. I know something about this stuff (and occasionally wish I didn't!)

21st Century Paul:
Warning: Long Post I think there's 2 "eras" in Paul's after-the-Beatles career. One is from 1970 to Off The Ground or so. That's when he did promotion, wrote hits, had a lot of airplay, you know... And then in 1994 or so he started not to like doing promotion or so, so he stopped... he left EMI, and all that, as he said in some interview: Manager or so:"Tomorrow we're going to Cologne" Paul:"Why?" Manager:"To do promotion" Paul:"How boring"
You've completely misinterpreted this interview, which came out at the time of release of MAF and which I heard live at the time. It was Paul's way of explaining why he left EMI. The point was not that he didn't want to do promotion. The point was that EMI's idea of promotion was always to do the same press gaggle at Cologne, they had no new or original ideas for how to get his music out there, and he was sick of it. He was quite explicit that he left EMI for Hear Music because he wanted to reach a new and larger audience. I don't know about other places, but in the U.S. "Hope of Deliverance" did NOT have a lot of airplay. "The World Tonight" (which you ignored) and "Freedom" had more, as did "Ever Present Past," which was a pretty obvious attempt to have a catchy, commercial single (the fact that it didn't get a video till after it had run its course on radio was marketing malpractice, but that's a separate issue).
Maybe I got wrong that interview... specially considering my English was worst some years ago Maybe you're right and he only was bored of EMI's promotions not of promoting itself. But if that's true it doesn't make much sense to move out from a major to Hear Music... if Paul would wanted more promotion he would have signed with one of the majors, Universal, Warner, Sony... Here Hope Of Deliverance had lots of airplay, and in Germany it sold like 6 milion records or so, it kind of became one the best selling singles of all-time in Germany, Paul explains it in The McCartney Years.
Actually, it makes perfect sense to move from a big label that's lost interest in you to a smaller one that is enthusiastic and creative -- and has access to new marketing channels (e.g. sales at Starbucks coffeeshops). And the proof is in the results. "Memory Almost Full" charted higher in both the U.S. and U.K. than "Chaos," his last EMI release, and sold more copies -- despite the fact that he toured behind "Chaos" and not for MAF. So the experiment worked, and pretty spectacularly. It will be interesting to see how the new album goes, since it's been so long since Paul did a "regular" album. But the notion that he switched labels because he doesn't care about commercial success simply does not match reality.

When the news of the new album does come how do you think we will first hear about it ? My betting is that it won't be though the P McC website or via an email from the site !!!
Here is a page that tracks upcoming releases for the radio format known as "Triple A" (adult album alternative), which -- along with Adult Contemporary" -- is where Paul tends to get whatever radio play he gets these days, at least in the U.S. http://www.allaccess.com/triple-a/future-releases Chances are, word will go out through industry channels before there's a public announcement, so we may get the first clue from sites like this.

I admit that "Why?" is probably the hardest question about almost everything cause there's always another possible "Why?" after the answer. And "Why not?" is a way of kind of stopping the why?why? thing...

Well, we've had that discussion several times and I always come with the same arguement. If he really wanted that much having "hits" and selling milions why would he do so many projects that are kind of fated to not to do that at all. Like the classical music albums, or some projects with not even the name "Paul McCartney" on them, like The Fireman. If he cared so much about hits he would only try to do that kind of music. Or maybe it's just the same "style" that made Spielberg film a blockbuster and then a film who was "fated" to not being very commercial.

IMO - He does those type of projects because he probably enjoys doing something "out of the box". McCartney like other classic rock stars no longer need the money so they are free to express themselves in different types of music. That being said, when he puts out a "mainstream" Paul McCartney record, I am quite sure he wants it to sell very well and be played on radio. I am sure if his next record is a big hit and just happened to be #1, he would be quite happy.

Not sure if this was posted anywhere else, but this looks like pretty good confirmation of an album soon... http://www.showbiz411.com/2013/08/11/exclusive-new-paul-mccartney-album-coming-this-year

Good enough for me! Kind of sounds like Paul was surprised that the publicity machine is not already up and running. Let's hope he sees to that!

all fingers seem to point to October

Hope of Deliverance was a HUGE hit in Europe, reaching the Top 5 in most countries including #1 in Spain. It was even a Top 20 hit in the UK. Why big in Europe & not in US?? Not sure. Maybe the song topic & timing, coming right after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

very unlikely - that song came out more than three years after the fall ...

Hmmm....the article mentions that Rod Stewart's latest album did not do well in the U.S., but if I'm not mistaken, his album debuted at No. 1 in the UK.
