New in the Charts Thread

He should have had the same team as Anchorman 2!! Then we would have been sick of it by now ..

I was reading a forum called ukmix and saw how good the album new is in Japan, already sold more than 72.000, proving that the tour made a great job there. Here in Brazil sold already more than 15.000 copies, wich is great, considering the lack of promotion, ending the year in position 60. Considering the album was released in the end of the year... C´mon Paul, where is the tour of the album? NEW is selling much more than Beatles BBC 2. The Beatles album is not having promotion either. C´mon

Position #46 on Amazon.com We have to see that the album is doing great because it is selling itself, with no promotion at all, no touring at all (only in Japan and in there is still selling very well). C´mon Paul, we can´t wait to see you touring.

This week "New" drops from #163 to #170. All is not lost, I suppose. The album could hang on while the Beatles 50th anniversary celebrations continue over the next few weeks (the US Albums boxed set next week, the Grammys after that, the Beatles week on Letterman, and the Grammy special Beatles show), and then if Paul takes the occasion to announce tour dates that could also help. Also on this week's chart, the new BBC collection moves back up to #123, the Beatles' "1" moves up to #135, and "Abbey Road" re-enters yet again, at #199.

RIP : NEW drops out of Billboard 200
Not much chance of a reappearance until/unless he announces/undertakes a tour.

Just looking at some numbers on YouTube for reference. New (static black and white logo video) - 1,477,853 views New (impromptu acoustic performance) - 258,915 views New (lyric video) - 515,811 views Queenie Eye (60-second video trailer) - 60,168 views Katy Perry: Roar (official video) - 138,715,295 views Roar (lyric video) - 54,707,867 Miley Cyrus: Wrecking Ball (official video) - 253,264,649 views Yep, Paul's in a completely different universe! "Queenie Eye," with its celebrities, should easily outstrip all the "New" videos put together, but beyond that....? (And while I was writing that, they put out an album sampler on YouTube. Trying to cover all the bases!)
Let's update these numbers, shall we? New (static black and white logo video) - 1,878,240 views New (impromptu acoustic performance) - 323,767 views New (lyric video) - 883,330 views Queenie Eye (60-second video trailer) - 190,431 views Queenie Eye (official video) - 2,847,315 views Queenie Eye (the making of) - 340,814 views Queenie Eye (Kate Moss clip) - 111,336 views This was everything from the album and its promotion that's had at least 100,000 views. And by the way: Miley Cyrus: Wrecking Ball (official video) - 500,547,419 views

Timing of the album release was horrible - I dont think Paul could have picked a worse time. Probably the biggest reason for the dismal sales. Hard to believe Rod Stewart's album did so much better in the charts.

You mean, five months after the announcement of a major tour?

I totally don't get having the album release so out of synch with the tour like that. Completely demented. That said, "New" could make a chart reappearance if he does something from it at the Grammys, especially if they put an ad or two on the Grammy show and Beatles special.
-
Totally agree, Bruce. I don't think we've heard the last of this album, in terms of sales.

For once, I agree with you Bruce! "Demented" is right!

In general I agree that the tour would have helped album sales. That said take a look back Flowers, Off the ground, Driving Rain, Chaos all tied in with a tour. None of them huge sellers. While Flaming Pie wasn`t promoted touring it at least sold as well as above mentioned albums if not better. I think that this late in the game gold certification does`t mean all that much to Paul. What he really craves is to get back commercially to where he was in the 70s and early 80s. So let`s hope that his marketing people have a plan B for early 2014 when major releases are scarce and the album may get renewed attention. IMO a new radio song would help, be it Appreciate, Save us or Everybody out there.

Yes, I think he's happy just to be in the mix, in the conversation, in the spotlight, appreciated! This year will certainly solidify his legend status, if nothing else.

There is no doubt in my mind that Paul McCartney absolutely wanted a No. 1 album.

Yeah, who wouldn't? (I totally agree with you)
