It isn't as if the private sales of guns still don't have to follow the rules. Personally after what I have been through in my life I feel anyone from British shouldn't have the right to use some chemical on US citizens that affects the subconscious. As I know they have and I believe there are many American that have taken notice of this. Maybe God is on the side of those where the damage was done? http://www.ohiogunshows.com/rules.html People might as well shut up about it because I think it takes so long to bring a law back into effect and the more they push the more America is going to realize that it is our freedom they try and manipulate. Do you think your monarchy gives a shit about its people Paul? Or are they under controll.

on FB and the Examiner, this has brought out the worst in people. they have actually said that since he's British, he doesn't have the right to an opinion about guns. well, he was effected by a gun in the US. I'd say that gives him the right to his opinion even if it's different then mine.

The British are the only ones crying about it. Why don't they go after South Africa there is more violence from guns there than anywhere. They always want to scream about the mentally ill when the mentaly ill are considered less dangerous than anyone very few would even think of buying a gun. Go to any hospital and ask if they own one. Mostly all would say no.

don't tell me about the mentally ill not being dangerous. I've had too many dealings with the 'special people' fixated on me. and the British aren't the only ones crying about it. there are a lot of angry Americans on both sides of this issue. but guns don't kill people. People do. and guns don't protect people. People do.

I'm not saying that some Americans aren't angry, of course the ones affected by a shooting are. But they don't piss in their own wheaties either. More people die from car accidents than shooting and the only so called mentally ill people that tend to want to truly end the life of another are socialpaths which tend to stay silent. I have decided to be a republican from now on. I believe in gun toting bible thumping son of a bitches from now on.

Since the two dead members of his ex-band died as a result of violent attacks, one murdered by gun directly, the other where knife stabbing was a contributing cause, he and Ringo certainly have a right to their opinion. Which I also share.

Exactly. What difference does it make that he is British? (Although I could add that his current and late wife are American, he has half-American children, one all-American, and he has businesses and homes in America).Surely this is about caring about humanity? Americans should be glad that he cares about them. I also find it amusing that Americans think the way to really insult the Brits is to criticise the monarchy!

Some of the comments I read on the Examiner's story were so rude and reactionary, they were downright embarrassing. But typical of the gun lobby to be dominated by fools. Paul is a part-time resident of the U.S., owns many properties here, pays taxes here, has business interests here, not to mention family. He has as much right to speak out as anyone else who lives here or, for that matter, who just visits here. Anyone who comes to this country has a right to express an opinion about the pervasiveness of the gun culture here and feeling unsafe because of the complete lack of effective regulation.

I wonder what John Lennon would've said on the issue. Oh, wait -- we'll never know. Because he was murdered by a mentally ill jerk who bought a gun without a background check.

I guess they will have to stop selling pressure cookers too because a couple of sickos made a bomb in Boston. No you will need a license to buy a pressure cooker. Fill out a questionaire "Is this being used for essential oils or do you can your own food." Actually that is a brighter subject to talk about in these insane days. How to grow your own garden and can your own food to get by in these hard economic times while the wealthy go around with their bottle of what ever drug they spray on you to violate your life. What a life.

Tired argument.

I'm all for background checks but I don't think that will solve the problem. The young punks in the city & south side of Chicago don't do background checks & they don't care who their stray bullets hit. It's usually innocent kids. Very difficult situation.
-
I agree that it is not a complete solution.

These inner city shootings mostly drug related could be handled with billboard adverts. And commercialism. You need people to come up with ideas on how to get across too the ones causing devastation to the families that live in the inner city. People need something to look for in life, when things seem to hopeless they do all kinds of irrational things anyway. But there has to be a different approach too the new wild west in the citys. I don't know what that is but putting it on the news doesn't work. People actually get used to seeing trauma on the news.

Here is my counter to Rush Limbaugh's pressure cooker argument: Pressure cookers were made for cookin'. they just happned to be dangerous enough to use as a weapon. Guns were made for one thing only...to kill people with...especially automatics. (but I'm okay with guns. I just see holes in Rush's arguments all the time)

Two people used a pressure cooker, or actually several, to cause trauma in a city in my home state. There's a difference between that and the gun violence that occurs every hour of every day in the entire country, and in a lot of other countries. Pressure cookers were made to be used as kitchen accessories. Guns weren't. The argument you're making isn't valid.

For over 200 years people have been buying guns in America. We are still here. Even though guns have their purpose. Any violence is violence. What is worse than someone on a rampage raising hell? Someone that doesn't say anything at all.

I think the British have no business speaking up about anything in America. They are not "It" USA USA USA.

then why do Americans insist on speaking up on any issue in any country that strikes their fancy at the moment? anyone has a right to speak up who's got an opinion. Period. I'm not from Saudi Arabia but I don't like their laws only allow one religion to be practiced there. I'm going to speak up about it. why? Because I can. I am an American. It is UnAmerican to not allow someone to speak out even if you don't agree with them. So, go chanting USA all you want to. I'll chant it but the difference is I understand what it means to be an American. USA> USA USA Go free speech! Speak out and up!!! (and take your licks if you're a d*mb*ss)
