Angreee!

No one has mentioned it yet but there was a remix version on one of the singles. It's essentially the same mix but with an added horn section. I have to say I prefer it to the album version. I would like to see him play it live though.
-
I've always liked this song. Voice might be a little "suppressed", but I like it. Sure, the vocals could've been more something from "Back to the Egg" to punch home the song, but I've got a spot for it.

By God guys, he's singing "angry" through gritted teeth. Can nobody see/hear/ that? :
I can! - could never understand the hatred of P2P. It's a masterpiece in my mind.
-
Disliking, for whatever reason, Paul's vocal on 'Angry' does not equate to hating Press to Play. I like the album a lot, and I love 'However Absurd', 'Move Over Busker', and 'Talk More Talk'..

Wow. I can (sort of) imagine someone liking P2P. I can't in my wildest imagination conceive of anyone thinking it a masterpiece.

There are exercises you can do to improve your imagination. It's easy if you try.

At the risk of opening a Pandora's box, I'd like to challenge Press-haters to -- production aside -- name one bad song on the album***. _***=excluding "Press" -- it's not a bad song, but naming it just seems like a cheap-shot for some reason_

Audi for me "Press to play" have 2 weak points, we all know that Macca is super great in acoustic little songs but here "Footprints" is for me maybe the weakest acoustic thing from Paul!Think of the great "Every night","Junk","mama`s little girl""bluebird""I´m carring","put it there", "calico skies", "little willow"......and the ballad!!!sorry but "Only love remains"is weak in the field that macca is super, the music , i like the lyrics but the music! the weakest ballad but not the worse, the worse is "From a lover to a friend" but "Driving rain" have that masterpiece "Your loving flame"! calm down, calm down because, i really love the song "Press"! and the two songs together "Good times coming/feel the sun", and "Move over busker"and "However absurd" and"Pretty little head"and the gorgeous "Tough on a tightrope" and"It´s not true"(I´m talking about the cd edition not the vinil)!

I love "Footprints". It's got a sort of wintery atmosphere that I sink into. I think "Press to Play" is a superb art-pop, rock album. It's not loaded with hits, those days were numbered, but it's okay with me. I loved it when it came out and I'm still fond of it. I'm looking forward to an archive collection reissue.

funny, I just listened to Press To Play and London Town back to back last couple of days ago...Thinking HOW UNDERRATED Footprints AND I'm Carrying are..both songs are very cool.. and how Pretty Little Head could have been sung by David Byrne and Talking Heads,,

I'd turn around and ask P2P fans to name anything on the album that's better than just so-so. "Footprints" would be my only vote. Otherwise there's not a memorable song on the album and quite a few --"However Absurd" and "Angry" come immediately to mind -- that I'd be quite happy to never hear again.

Good point. The only songs that I think are interesting and worth a second listen are footprints, however absurd, only love remains. The melodies are just not memorable and the lyrics are below average for the most part. Finally, Press has to be the worst single ever for Paul dating back to 1970 to present.

PRESS. However Absurd. Pretty Little Head. Talk More Talk. Only Love Remains. Stranglehold is TERRIFIC!

There is nothing so-so about the album -- every song is solid. BTW: This is the album that made me a fan in the first place.
-
But...by far the best thing about Press To Play is George Hurrell's photograph (check out the outtakes) shot with the very same camera he used to photograph movie stars back in the golden age of Hollywood.

No. Not every song is solid. And I suspect if it is the album that made you a fan (geez you're young!) , you look at it with an "emotional glow" for that very reason. As I do with Red Rose Speedway (I'm old). It might have made you a fan, but for most everyone else of us, we weren't into this, or Broadstreet or Jackson's duets or Pipes Of Peace or Spies Like Us...cos they were all pretty much shite. Truth be told.

Yes, I was still a child at the time, but I'd heard Tug Of War by then -- I liked it ... but Press To Play sealed the deal for me. I was just discovering "college rock" alternative radio at the time, and I'd developed a precocious appreciation for non-Top 40 music.
-
I'll add that although US Today -- then or now -- was hardly cutting-edge journalism, it did give Press To Play a very good review.
