Told you I don't listen to hiphop. But yeah you're right and I stand corrected. I knew it was Vanilla something. It was Milli who was the fraud. Either way, neither is in the same league as Kanye. Anyway, I'm outta here.
You weren't completely wrong. Vanilla Ice got in trouble for sampling the bassline for "Under Pressure" without crediting Bowie or Queen. It was a huge deal at the time particularly because he
it was a completely different song because he changed one note. parlanceBut that still isn't fraud. It's what happened to George Harrison too. BUT Milli Vanilli was Fraud. Their success turned to infamy when the Grammy award was withdrawn after Los Angeles Times author Chuck Philips revealed that lead vocals on the record were not the voices of Morvan and Pilatus. They recorded a comeback album in 1998, but Rob Pilatus died before the album was released.

I remember what happened. I can still see why someone would remember Vanilla Ice as a fraud because it was clear he was consciously trying to get away with ripping off the bassline. George, on the other hand, was found guilty of unconscious plagiarism - closer to the recent situation between Sam Smith and Tom Petty than Vanilla Ice. parlance

That may be lying but it wasn't fraud. It was fraudulent that Milli Vanilli didn't sing with their own voices. It really doesn't matter.

ojh please! do you really believe Kanye West has any music talent? you people listening to the beatles? oh please.. Kanye may be a well advertised and popular item, but "talent" is a big word. I can bet West will be forgot in a couple of years ...and, believe me, he's not even so popular in Europe. I don't beleive his music touches so many hearts or has that big significance for anyone. Such a big distance from the Beatles or any Beatle solo music impact
I work in an office with mostly much younger people, and I have to say that for folks under 35 -- which is the primary pop music audience -- Kanye absolutely touches hearts and has big significance. His stuff mostly doesn't speak to me, but I try not to confuse my own personal taste with Absolute Truth. I don't care for 95% of Kanye's stuff, but he absolutely has talent.
No really i don't confuse my personal taste with absolute truth. But we are comparing two things which are simply incomparable. Popular doesen't necessarely mean talented. Jutin Bieber is popular too and loved by many . Talented? Anyway, should Paul play live with West i would pay just to see him (Paul) grab his cortch

It's not like Kanye West is a debutant. He has released acclaimed albums for a decade + already. But you don't have to be a fan of his music to enjoy this song, it's pretty much a Paul McCartney melody. He did a threesome number with Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens and Dolly Parton in 2009, "Boots & Sand". it's nice but "FourFiveSeconds" is better to my ears with much more McCartney stamps on it. Of the many hundreds of guest appearances, collaborations and giveaway songs, he's been doing since the early days, I think this is a standout.

Critics hate Justin Bieber. Critics love Kanye West, and they will love him after we're all gone. Sorry, it's a fact. I don't love him either, but that's the way it is.

You know, all you have to do is change the names and this is exactly what my parents said about the Beatles in the '60s. Music (and all popular culture) evolves. Just because you don't like what's current doesn't mean it has no value. It really is bizarre to me to see how many Paul/Beatles fans have turned into their parents. I can't believe the crap these kids listen to nowadays!

Oh yeah! Sam Smith got sorted out by Petty. I heard the resemblance right away, back when Smith was at the top with the song and wondering how such a thing could be fair. I'm glad everything worked out. http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/01/tom-petty-awarded-songwriting-royalties-for-sam-smiths-stay-with-me/

Bruce it's so true that many parents said the same thing about the Beatles and their unruly long hair (long bangs) If your parents don't like it, it must be good

Paul has even done it! The part he wrote for Free As A Bird ( Whatever happened to, the life that we once knew...) sounds a LOT like Remember Walking In The Sand. It happens.

Wow, I didn't know that song Remember Walking in the Sand, so googled.... yeah, there is certainly a similarity. That Sam Smith song though was one hell of a lift off Petty.

So how are we ever going to tell unlistenable music from decent music from great music? Matter is we can't change the names so easily, we can't compare the Soft Machine with the Bealtes, can't compare JS Bach to Boismortier, can't compare Paul to Kanye. As long as music has a meaning.

Or their parents' parents. Maybe it's more apt to compare the anti-Kanye mood to the reaction to Mick Jagger and those dirty, salacious Rolling Stones; or the provocative antics of Jim Morrison; or the gender-bending of '70s Bowie and Elton John or '80s Boy George; or the self-loathing howls of Kurt Cobain; or the wacky costumes of Bjork. All of those artists had images that sometimes overwhelmed the good music they were doing and the critical acclaim they were getting, and each one probably caused certain members of a generation to say, "Stop, that's it! Music sucks now!"

Well, I really appreciate the Stones. Although they will always be the little brother to the Beatles. And they knew that... they always had p*nis envy of the Beatles.... But then again my favourite album of theirs was Tattoo You, so what do I know?... Morrison was a great poet. And I respect The Doors. Cobain, I liked, but he became bigger due to his premature demise.... Still liked him, though....I appreciated Nirvana.... I never liked Bowie or Elton, ever, but I am happy to admit both are brilliant at what they do.... but I don't like any of their music... maybe "Tiny Bubbles"... and Bowie's best work for me was in Under Pressure.... but I do love and rate Queen... I am bias on that.... but neither of them have really done it for me....How Boy George got into the mix, I am not sure... Or Bjork.... Still not sure where Mr Kardashian fits in with that lot either.... he's certainly not in that league.... Now, he and Rick Astley, on the other hand....

Why would listening to the Beatles keep people from appreciating all types of music? Paul doesn't limit himself, why should we? Also, I found the claim that he's not popular in Europe extremely odd, so I did a bit of research, and his latest album went No. 1 in several European countries. And when he's played there, he's played arenas. Incidentally, on a general note, the 2013 Yeezus tour was second only to Paul's Out There tour in ticket sales. parlance

None of this discussion would be happening here if Paul was not collaborating with West. We all GET that older generations don't understand younger generation's music, clothing, etc. At the heart of this debate is whether Paul should, or needs, to do this. Clearly he can do anything he wants to . He's friggin' Paul McCartney!! But comparisons to the past are quite futile. Yes, the Beatles and Stones shook things up in the 60s. But it was THEIR world and the world of youth at that time. Can you imagine Frank Sinatra collaborating with The Beatles in 1967? Or Rudolph Valentino?? Or Stravinsky?? At this point, I really don't care what McCartney does career-wise. I know exactly what it means and why he does it. But it is quite certain, if Paul decided to collaborate with Justin Bieber, no doubt many here would suddenly hail him as the brilliant musical talent of the new century, a visionary worthy of Paul's attention.
