And for the record, I don't think Paul should not try new things. He is an artist, after all. I admire Paul's prolific adventurousness, musically. I like the Fireman records, Twin Freaks, KOTB, Ocean's Kingdom, Ecce Cor Meum, the Bloody Beetroots, the Dave Grohl/Nirvana collaboration, Hope For The Future (which I love), Thrillington, McGear, the Liverpool Oratorio, Holly Days..I know I'm missing some things. He's been so prolific, it's incredible. And don't get me started on the songs and albums that I love that 90% of fans dislike or dismiss - Wildlife, McCartney II, Mary Had a Little Lamb, We All Stand Together (the video, the song, and the awesome picture disc), GMRTBS (the movie!!), etc., etc.... But this new collaboration, well, I just don't get it. To my ears, and by my judgement (for what it's worth, and to be honest, I realize the world needs less judgement, not more), this is as close as McCartney has ever come to releasing something that I find objectionable and embarrassing. I don't mean to offend in any way. I hesitated in posting this, but I just needed to get it off my chest. If other people like these new songs, that's cool, too. No worries here.
I agree with you so much, other than the objectionable and embarrassing comment. Paul is an artist and artists paint with many colors. It's what he likes, obviously.... And so he should be able to paint/make music, however he desires. He's paid his dues to the music machine already! Just another thought. Just because you grow older, you don't always have to stop moving along with current music. Some people get trapped in an era, some keep going... Paul has kept going, in my opinion that's great!
Actually if Paul decided to become a hip hop musician, it would not bother me a bit. Or effect my life in the least.

There are many people in this society who, if you asked them, would even know who Kanye is.
To be fair,if it wasn't for Olivers Army & A Good Year For The Roses, most people in society wouldn't know who Elvis was either?
I suspect the real test, which cannot be proven right now, is if, in sixty years, Kanye is called the King of Hip Hop. In his day, Elvis was miles ahead of the competition. So were the Beatles in their day, and today are considered the best band that ever was. Is Kanye considered the best of the best in his genre? Better than Eminem? Better than Lil Wayne or Snoop Dog or Sean Combs? Time will tell who is right and who is wrong. Let me know in fifty years!
"So were the Beatles in their day, and today are considered the best band that ever was. Not only were the Beatles the best band ever but they also influenced the world by their fashion (haircuts/clothes), art (album covers that are incredibly famous), song writing and recording innovation. Do we honestly think Kanye or any artist today can have the effect on the world that the Beatles had in the 60's.

Me either. Fortunately we've got all his recordings up to this to enjoy. Even so, there's a couple of duds I never bought. And if he went hip hop I would not buy those records either. But I would still enjoy what he's given us. Knowing him though, I doubt the genre would change him. More likely he would change the genre, by adding Melodies!

Exactly. I mean, there is loads of music he has made up to this point. He can do whatever he pleases.

Mods please delete this thread and any other references to these "collaborations". We've been humiliated and embarrassed enough! Legacy tarnished! Confirmed!
These kids today! Next thing you know, Elvis will be swiveling his hips on TV, turning our kids into savages!
yeah. it's just like Elvis. :
Actually, it is. Every generation, kids discover new music that's different from their parents' generation's tastes, and adults roll their eyes and say, " I don't believe the crap these kids listen to nowadays!" So it was with Elvis, and the Beatles, and punk, and disco, and hip hop, and on and on and on and on...
Really? Kanye asking Paul "what p***y was like in the 60s" is like Elvis? Not it isn't. You're wrong. And Elvis changed music for everyone. So did the Beatles. This is not even close to doing that.
Uh, nothing in the post I responded to referred to that specific remark of Kanye's (which, for the record, I do find stupid and annoying). I try to respond to what's actually written and not read into people's posts things that aren't there. I find that to be a really useful policy.

Nobody said the question Kanye asked Paul had anything to do with Elvis! He was just saying that Elvis was one of the phenomenons of the 20th century that parents thought would corrupt their kids. It's been going on since Rudolph Valentino in the 1920's! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolph_Valentino
Precisely, Nancy. Thank you.

See? That wasn't so painful. Now Nancy can sleep tonight! Ha ha! BTW, I responded to what you actually wrote. I disagree with you. It's OK. Deal with it.

Meanwhile, much to the annoyance of some on here I'm sure, the song continues to look like a major hit. Presently it's #2 on iTunes and is already at #31 on the Mediabase Top 40 airplay chart and #34 on Hot AC (a format that occupies a sort of middle ground between Adult Contemporary and Top 40). And I gotta say, I kinda like it, even though I'm not a huge fan of Rihanna's vocal style. I remain baffled at the people saying this is an embarrassment. "I Am Your Singer" is an embarrassment, this is a nice little song -- not a masterwork, but nice.

I think these songs are good. Not my cup of tea, but Paul writing for others is a good place to be at this moment. The song Diana Krall did is gorgeous. Why he didn't record it, I'll never understand. It's better than anything on NEW.

You still don't get it. Did you read Bruce's post just below the one you quoted? And, I'm not sleeping tonight not because of you, but because I'm on call for the O.R.

I think we're gonna need two separate forums by the end of this year.

It seems Paul, Rihanna and Kanye West may perform together at the Grammys.

Real fans will not watch and boycott this theatre of humiliation. If true this will be the final nail in the coffin of our legacy. We are still reeling from the last grammy embarrassment with jay z wearing a Lennon tshirt to mock Paul, and his voice cracking to the horror of the audience during Yesterday. We will boycott!!

I wasn't aware that Lennon t-shirts were an insult to Paul. Should I throw mine away?
