Calling someone a racist is always dangerous, since -- unless they make an explicit statement -- you can't know what a person is thinking. That said, a lot of prejudice (in all forms) is unconscious, and it's hard to avoid noticing that pretty consistently one hears a whole lot more venom when Paul collaborates with black artists than with white ones. Maybe that's just coincidence. Maybe not.
Impossible to know, but as you said earlier, there's a lot of overlap. Many people say they don't like hip hop and rap in general, and there are many possible reasons for that. Sometimes it's not racial, but sometimes it is.
I'm also not a big fan of country music, does that mean I'm a racist for not liking that genre? As Bruce said, it becomes dangerous when calling out somebody as a racist, especially because they don't like a certain genre of music. Everybody is different and there will be some things one person enjoys that another person won't! That being said can we all please drop this racism stuff and get back to topic?

As I said, sometimes it's not racial. The song is still at #4 on the iTunes chart. Surely a good sign for next week's Billboard chart.

Just because you don't like the music or the song doesn't mean it's an embarrassment that Paul is associated.

Some one posted, "Is Paul McCartney's family being held hostage by Jay Z?" :

I think only one person here has been saying it's an embarrassment, and I think the majority of us here think that assessment is baloney.

They may be performing it tonight at a pre-SuperBowl party. Hope someone has a recorder. http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/rihanna-kanye-west-paul-mccartney-to-perform-at-super-bowl-bash-2015311

Seems like a sequel to John Lennon's "God." Kind of the reverse. "Kanye and me. That's not reality."
The dream is over What can I say? The dream is over Say Say Say I was the HitMaker But now Who is Paul? I was Ebony & Ivory But now I'm Sir Paul And so Dear Friend You just have to carry on The dream is over

Awful news if true! Should be avoided.

It's an embarrassment. Paul is being paid by Jay Z.
-
No. FourFiveSeconds is good. If anyone should be embarrassed, it should be David Grohl for taking the Gold. You want an embarrassment? Try "Don't Worry, Be Happy" winning "Song of the Year" over and above Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car". Now That is a true embarrassment.

And I like Katy Perry. But I won't be watching the Halftime Show tomorrow. It's not my sound. It's not my era.

Nor mine. But I will be watching...with the sound down. The way George Harrison said he enjoyed The Spice Girls.

Where in the heck did that come from?
-
Excuse me. Mr. McCartney is a Craftsman for Hire. Is he not? He has written quite a few songs for others, Peter and Gordon, and movies, and I don't see why JayZ hiring him would make any difference. Are you perhaps objecting to Sir Paul appearing to extend "legitimacy" to JayZ?

The article doesn't say that. It says Jay-Z rented a room where the party was. But anyway, Paul didn't show up, just Rihanna and Kanye. Interestingly, the article was written by one Anthony McCartney! http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/rihanna-rocks-directv-party-eve-super-bowl-28638668

Finally common sense prevailed

Hey! Something (all of the above) that we totally agree on!

I don't like Kanye, though my daughter loves him and I don't care for Rihanna, though my wife really likes her, but I will say I think alot of the hate on the posting is misplaced. I didn't care for Only One, mediocre melody and the autotune kills it, but I like FourFiveSeconds alot. it is very breezy, very catchy. It is almost certainly primarily McCartney's melody - it sounds like something he would create, not something Rihanna's people would. This is really the only way the modern music market will get to hear a McCartney tune. He will never get significant airplay again (until he dies), he is simply too old for radio to play him. I think this is a good song. Lyrics aren't my favorite ever, but the tune is very good. There is a video for this coming out with all 3 in it. There is a behind the scenes version available now. In it Rihanna while talking about fashion makes mention that 'The f***ing Beatles never go out of style'. McCartney has earned the right to work with whoever he wants to. He isn't working with any of my favs, but that is ok - i'm glad to see he is still trying to find inspiration, still trying to be active, go outside the comfort zone and create. RamblinRed

I'm not surprised. It seemed really farfetched to me that Paul would travel to Arizona to perform at some random pre-Superbowl party. WTF.
