And maybe this is an obvious point, but, How often do you see Rod Stewart playing an instrument? Robert Plant? Roger Daltrey? The late Joe Cocker? Janis Joplin? Bono? Michael Stipe? Chris Martin? David Lee Roth? Freddie Mercury? Yes, some of them can/could play an instrument, but does anyone really judge them by that? I don't see how playing an instrument is relevant to the legitimacy of the collaboration.
It's incredibly relevant. All the people you mention above are vocalists who interpret other people's songs, like Elvis did. Kanye is not in their universe. He just isn't.

Paul will be appearing on the Grammys to perform Rihanna's song. http://www.cbspressexpress.com/cbs-entertainment/releases/view?id=41852 RIHANNA, PAUL McCARTNEY AND KANYE WEST SET TO TAKE THE STAGE IN A WORLD DEBUT PERFORMANCE OF RIHANNA'S NEW SINGLE, ?FOURFIVESECONDS,? Some of the above vocalists are also songwriters. That's not my point. Just saying Kanye shouldn't be dismissed for not playing an instrument.

Thanks for the info. They probably wanted to time this announcement with the release of the video. I think the video is good!

I like the video too. And I like the song the more I hear it. parlance

Video is stark, black and white. Perofrmance video. Nicely shot. With a video now available this is likely a Top 10 somg on Billboard's Hot 100 in the next couple of weeks. Hot 100 includes sales (including downloads), radio play and streaming (both audio and video). The Video will juice the streaming totals and the performance Sunday will likely increase downloads/sales. Note the Hot 100 has always been based on a combination of sales and airplay. They have had to change their formulations multiple times over the years to account for changes in how music is bought and consumed. I like the song alot. I suspect McCartney was the main melody writer as is does not sound anything like Rihanna, Kanye or their collaborators have ever put out. Lyrics are obviously not his. The melody feels like a very breezy, summer beach song. Reminds me some of a more modern I Lie Around. I like it and i'm glad it is likely to do well. FWIW, the charting of this song makes Macca the oldest musician to ever hit the Pop Songs chart and I believe the 2nd oldest (behind Tony Bennett) to hit the Hot 100. In response to an earlier question in this thread about who did what on this and Only One. On Only One the press information suggested it was Macca's melody (out of a studio jam/tinkering) with Kanye adding lyrics to the melody. RamblinRed

The video. Interesting musical band - trio Well, especially I liked the attractive guitarist And the glance he gives to the camera at around 1:19 - wow, it feels like he is really into the mood of the song and lyrics I think he looks cool. Though I wish this video was all about him not just four or five seconds I've caught myself on the thought how much I am really looking forward to Paul's new material now... The melody is catchy, it's playing in my head all these days

Mr. West is in the building once more! After a six-year hiatus from the show, Kanye West is set to make his big return to the Grammy Awards this weekend.
WHY DOESN'T HE GO BACK TO AUSTRALIA AND EMBARRASS AND HATE PARAPLEGICS!

They said Taylor Swift will not perform...wonder why.

So the fact that Kanye writes his own material makes him a less valid artist? Really???

Well, you consider his work valid, I don't. You REALLY need to relax, dude!! Ha ha! Go have a beer.

The new Rihanna video picked up over 1.5 million views in the first 12 hours or so. Combine that with continuing strong sales (#4 on iTunes as I write this) and steady grown on radio suggests it will continue moving up the charts this week and next at the very least. The person who called it a flop (ahem) might consider retracting that statement.

Would like Paul to continue these interesting unexpected collaborations, always did fancy his many delightful (usually) surprises The sullen petulant pouter Kanye and sexpot Rihanna, and now Lady Gaga, she can be such a hoot and a trip...Paul's having fun, and I love him having fun Fie on those who begrudge him his fun, larks and laffs Paul has more than earned his pleasures over the course of a long hard-working amazing career that's even been called part of "the greatest music story ever told"
