WINGS FUN CLUB - recollections?
-
I joined the Wings Fun Club in 1979. I've since managed to collect every issue of Club Sandwich, except for those very early newsletters. I don't think I could ever part with them. One of my photographs was published in one of the issues. I'll have to post it here sometime.
-
And I have the issue with your photograph.
-
which issue was your photo in?
-
I just recently won the June/July 1977 issue of Club Sandwich off Ebay and it is amazing. Now I am looking for January/February, March/April and August/September 1977 issues. Besides Ebay, does anybody know where I could look or ask?
-
my sister was the subscriber in our household, she started getting club sandwich in 1990 when i was ten. i woud read through each copy and couldnt wait for each new one, when she left home i had to say goodbye to all those issues!!! i decided to try and get a full collection on ebay but buying individual ones was far too expensive, so i kept trying the old trick of mis-spelling pauls name, and would you believe it, someone had put a collection of all of them as mcartney/wings, the missing ones were all from the 90's and pretty easy to find, i got all of them for 40 pounds!!!! i spent the whole day just thumbing through all the issues i'd never seen, i was particularly excited by the really early ones, some of which still had order forms etc etc. the last time i checked, i'm missing 2 issues, one of which i'm bidding on now, so hopefully i will finish this little bit of collecting soon, and my fiance will stop groaning every time the postman turns up! in this collection i bought, there were a number of duplicate copies, i cant remember them all at the moment but i know i had 2 of 65, 81 and the buddy holly tribute edition, so if anyone needs those and wants to swap something, let me know.

i remember i sold one on ebay for 100 dollars, once. i cant remember why that particular issue was so popular and desired. it had some real good stuff in it, of course.

I was a member and loved it...
-
Me too! Also, Paul's Fun Club. I use to love getting the Newsletters/magazines and having the membership cards. There's nothing like that now is they?
-
My last membership card, sans info. I miss the Fun Club and 'Club Sandwiches."

I didn't think I'd been a member for that long but remembering how many CSs I'd accumulated, it must've been a few years in the late 80's/early 90's. Like many have said, I too received the free Choba CCCP and tickets to see Paul in 'Rehearsal' at the Playhouse in London in 1989. It's great to keep up with all the news and be able to chat with other fans like this over the net, but there was something magical about waiting for the Postman to turn up with the latest edition. I'm afraid those days may never return!

Just like spending hours listening to the radio to hear the new single played? Oh for the good old days.

And what about Beatles Book magazines! Did you used to get those? My dad worked up in the city (of London, that is) and used to bring them home for me. I used to be soooo excited and couldn't wait to read it from cover to cover that evening (probably while I was supposed to be getting on with home work)! Happy memories!
-
I remember getting the Beatles Magazines too. I'm sorry to say that i no longer have them as i went through a divorce and my ex destroyed them. I was lucky to get my albums back. back to the Magazines...iwas always very excited when they arrived and would read and look at the photos over and over again. Those were the days!

I had a poem published in the club sandwhich. I dont rember all of it but it went like this When I listen to wings i never feel low just watch my expression change to a glow letting go a rocker by far but not as fast a medicine jar Nowords must be the best but like us all I love the rest Love in Song another fine song with Wings in command you can go wrong ( its in the wrong order and a few lines missing ) I was about 13 when i sent it in and that was a long time ago _________________

Here's an interesting poem from the section "Listen to what the fans said" from the June/July 1977 issue. Wings Paul is great, he's a star Better than most, better by far His music is relaxing, his music is fine That's why I listen all the time Linda is great, she is fun She's a great singer and mum She is magic, she is sweet Never off her feet, she's a treat Denny is smart, Denny's fine Denny plays his guitar dead on time He can't sing straight from the start He sings straight from his heart Oor Jimmy's Braw, Jimmy's slick Oor Jimmy's a Scot that will stick He can handle any guitar He shines like any star Joe has a beat that goes down a treat Joe keeps it fine, keeps the beat He heaves his drums red hot When other drummers would not.
