Out of his pure studio releases that contain new tracks then i'd say Pipes Of Peace. However it still contains a few gems like : Keep Under Cover So Bad Through Our Love ( a bit overblown ) & the title track It's basically TOW leftovers & a few new tracks thrown in mix. As ive said many times thank god he came out with Press To Play after this & Broad St.

At least Pipes has "Through Our Love," "Sweetest Little Show," and the title track to commend it; the rest are rather bland. I've always preferred the Broad Street version of "So Bad" to the one on Pipes.

McCartney II is over a lot of people's heads, but those that get it ... get it. Paul said emphatically that he recorded those tracks in 1979 not realizing that it would result in an album. A very un-self-conscious project. I think that's why it is dubbed the "first Fireman album." With that said: 1983's Pipes Of Peace is the one McCartney album with almost nil redeeming value. Ironically, those songs were leftovers from the 1981 Tug Of War sessions, which were very much intended to be a proper album.

Flowers In The Dirt (Sorry, I know I'm in the minority here) tied with Pipes of Peace for me. But they both have a couple of good tracks on them though.

I don't really understand the hate for Pipes of Peace on this forum. It looks like I'm that album's only defender; perhaps I'll have to open a thread and go through it track by track, like a teaching assistant. Not that it will make any difference - there's a marked tendency towards closed minds among Paul fans in general. Everyone has an opinion, not only an opinion but the opinion, yadayada...

It lacks heart. Every song song sounds like a B-side -- even the stronger songs like "Simple As That" (a '93 bonus track) and "Keep Under Cover." I don't hate "Say Say Say," but I never listen to it because of my longtime disdain for Michael Jackson. "So Bad" is the album's gem.

I always thought McCartney II went under people's heads...

Agree with Pipes of Peace though it has a couple of excellent tracks, notably the title track and So Bad. Say Say Say wasn't bad either. But the rest is just throwaway with some bad lyrics to boot, and The Other Me maybe the worst song he's ever done. It sounds like it was thrown together to fulfill a contract. Wildlife is a close second, then McCartney II. I know Press To Play gets slagged a lot. I used to love it, but haven't heard it in years. Have to give it another listen sometime. Maybe the reissue.
