Worst McCartney album?

McCartney II is one of my very favourite Paul albums
Ah, well, we agree to disagree! And Band On the Run is probably my favorite, but you say it's overrated!
agreed. well the funny thing is, that BOTR is probably also in my "his best 5 albums list"; it sure is one of his best, don`t ge tme wrong, but still I think it is overrated. The mainstream opinion is that BOTR is his big, his one and only solo-masterpiece; it`s surely not overrated among us die hard fans. My top 5 (today) would be: 1. Ram 2. Back To The Egg 3. McCartney II 4. McCartney 5. Band on the run
-
If we're talking solo Macca (including Wings, you pseudo-purists), then honestly I would consider Ram and BOTR to be his best (not same thing necessarily as "favorite") albums that best display his gifts and talents. I really liked McCartney, convinced recently with MC2's merits, found Back to the Egg decent, Speed of Sound too, and Tug of War was pretty good. But Ram and BOTR are his best albums, really his essential ones.

Now that is a list I can almost totally agree with, except, I would bump Back to the Egg and replace it with Chaos and Creation. And sometimes I move Band on the Run down to No. 6, and move Electric Arguments up to No. 5. I probably take BOTR for granted; it's been so played that it's just not that special to me anymore. I'm going to have to steer clear of it for a few years to regain my appreciation for it.

Wild Life. No contest.

I'm really knocked out by some on the songs on "Wild Life"--it's a very underrated album

I remain mystified how anyone can like Wild Life. It has a grand total of one really solid tune, Tomorrow. Two others, Dear Friend and Some People Never Know, are honorable near-misses, but both wander and ramble on too long. Most of the rest is just embarrassing, with I Am Your Singer arguably the all-time low point of the Wings period.
-
I love Paul dearly, but the dude smoked waaaaay too much weed in the '70s.

I like it because it's raw. I think it's also a Paul at the peak of his vocal performance.

Would Paul's '70's music have been stronger if he'd cut back on the dope, or would we have missed out on some of his dafter moments if he was clean? I must admit from time to time i wonder if he'd been less stoned his music would have been more consistent.

I like "Wildlife" especially the title song, great message, great vocal from Paul. I wonder how only few people recognize that. -

I think Wild Life is great. It`s definitely a weed-album

PIPES OF PEACE AND GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROAD STREET. Rotten, awful, garbage, rot, dross, muck, piffle... (a) proof that no matter how nice the cover artwork is - it doesn't necessarily a great album make. (b) The mid 1980's tested the patience of even long time Macca/Beatles fans (I was born in '62). We stayed with him , but by God, it was hard to do with the two albums released above back to back.
Yes, the 80's was a hard time for Beatles-fans. John Lennon shot dead, Paul McCartney working with an idiot like Wacko and losing the catalogue and George working with Madonna.
George worked with Madonna?
Yes, he appeared with Madonna in the film Shanghai Surprise.

There's no doubt that Wings was a hit-making juggernaut, but I think their earlier albums lacked discipline.

All the former Fab Four guys had that same problem. I mean truely honestly looking at this objectively, how many classic essential "great" albums did those guys on their own cook up after the break-up? You have George's All Things Must Pass, John's Plastic Ono Band and arguably Imagine, and Paul had BOTR and Ram. Ringo didn't have any. As talented and good as those guys were, they have the usual problem musicians have: kick butt single or two, then lots of filler. (Hey I love Queen, but how many original albums of theirs is truely worth owning?) But thats why the Beatles were the Beatles, because usually we got the best of their stuff together. I mean John save for a '68 leftover track was basically MIA on Let it Be, which was saved by Paul. Then on Abbey Road, maybe Paul wasn't all there* but hey George drops two classics and even John got out of his bed-in to do "Come Together." Somebody was always there to pick up the ball if any of the others fumbled. Problem with George, Paul, and John was that they only had themselves. *=And before the angry PMs start flying, I loved the Medley which was his idea.

Well he was self-medicating, wasn't he? A massive amount of weed is better for you than massive amounts of heroin or alcohol, and certainly cheaper than therapy.

Ringo didn't have any.
Poor Ringo! Well, he did have the Ringo LP which of course had many guest stars on it like... oh yeah, Paul, John and George!

That's rubbish - RINGO is a great album. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Memory Almost Full. Hands down.
Hi Shawn. Agreed. It's so bad it's offensive. Almost every song is Biker Like An Icon wrapped inside The Girl Is Mine wrapped inside Freedom.

I get the joke, Squid.
Glad someone did.
Squid, your assessment of MAF here is hilarious, and spot on. Great to read through this old thread. Thanks again, Anita, for finding this for us.
