Worst McCartney album?
-
RMartinez:
Tough question, since McCartney always has something going on in his LPs. Going on which recordings caught my ear the least and I don't listen to? Give My Regards to Broadstreet Driving Rain Chaos New This does not mean these are "bad" or "horrible" just they left little or no impression on me.
kisses on the bottom is pretty dire

I didn't even count that one, but if I did it's definitely bottom of the barrel for me.

I listened to New on a continuous loop for a few hours today. I think it's going to be one of those albums that has to grow on me. Right now I have one of the melodies in my head, but I couldn't recite any of the lyrics if you put a gun to my head.

PIPES
-
Probably 'Wildlife' or 'Wings at the Speed of Sound' for me, my two least favourite albums in that order. Anything else I love. D
-
I think it's between Pipes Of Peace and Off The Ground for me, both written without much inspiration at all, the odd good song, but mostly forgettable stuff. I think Pipes following the majestic Tug Of War really shows up how bad Pipes is in comparison!

Despite my love for both Memory Almost Full and Electric Arguments, I can somewhat agree that NEW may be McCartney's best album since Flaming Pie. Chaos... has a lot of honesty; it's got some of the best songs he's ever written -- but its overall dark tone puts me to sleep.
Hehe, I LOVE Chaos, one of my very favourites, but I actually do use it to get myself to sleep if I'm having any trouble sleeping lol, or to drown out noises around. It's so soothing

As for the topic at hand, my least favourite is Press to Play, hand down. Not one great song (or even close to it) imo, and awfully 80's sounding. Not a big fan of Pipes of Peace nor Flowers in the Dirt either. But both have some great songs. I've barely heard all three since I didn't much like them though, so who knows, I might listen to them again in the future and might change my mind. PS: Love Wild Life, McCartney II, Driving Rain.

Paul should have released Cold Cuts instead of Pipes. Paul still had a guaranteed audience & many good songs in the vault with Cold Cuts. Pipes is basically ToW rejects. Its essentially what the Stones did around that time. Tattoo You is basically songs rehearsed/demoed but never released for the past 10 years...and it was their last great classic album.

I'm laughing because even a bad album or the worst from Macca is better then most albums being released today or in the past. Long may he rock

His worst album ever has to be DRIVING RAIN! A couple of decent tracks but on the whole a bad album and one i could live without!

Driving Rain, IMO, is a very good album. I like it from the start to the very end. I like the organic sound a lot , good songs, some very good songs, sincerity, rawness, dark at times, urgency, and a reasonable and interesting quote of extravaganza. This and the next one "Chaos..." are very good albums. The "grey" albums... in mood and cover.
-
Awesime album. That one and Chaos are rather dark albums, showing us histhe moment in his life he was going through. They're dark, but not pessimistic. There's not a song I'd skip in Driving Rain, I don't think so. And I love Lonely Road, About You, She's Given Up Talking and Rinse the Raindrops. Such a rocking album. When has Paul released a more rocking album?.

That was my reaction for about five years after its release, And then I went back to it, and gradually started to get into it, and now I consider it one of his better solo albums, up there with Flowers In The Dirt, Chaos & Creation and New.

"About you" is just incredibly emotional ... , and the Indian one is exquisite and hipnotic ... and so on ... Incredible album... One of his best for me...

Nah, "Pipes of Peace" is just crap. Even Paul has misfires occasionally, and this was a big one.

He didn't work hard enough on POP but even so there's some good stuff, I think.
