Today I received an e-mail from Paul McCartney with the download link for the new Ocean's Kingdom music (studio + live), and the notification of the CD being shipped. Can't wait to put it on the Ipod tonight. .
Interesting - today I received my CD but I haven't gotten the email with the download link yet!

thanks Wallie by the link. This is a very sincerely interview, confirm to me the way in which Paul took this work. It was just an other experience in art, told many times that for him all the things are interesting. When many people in this board were worried, i wasn't, knowing Paul is a very special man. I think that he is an infatigable worker, but the most important is he does what he want to do, and that is a big difference, becouse he is happy, and that is cool.

i ordered thevinyl off this site and received my downloads last night, decided to go an buy the cd from my local shop, and discovered this copy has a card for the download of the album and the exclusive live recording

I purchased the CD today. And I must say, the music is stunning. It is really good. On first listen I would rank this right up there with Ecce Cor Meum and Standing Stone. The music is both gorgeous and melodic, yet haunting at the same time, with an underlying power that seems to drive the entire piece, immersing the listener into orchestrial bliss ......"relax and float down stream..." I am very impressed with "Oceans Kingdom".
-
A somewhat different opinion here: I listened to the mp3's (cd has not yet arrived). The music is good, but I hear Tchaikovski, Stravinski, Ravel and Bernstein. What I mean is that I do not really hear McCartney. I found Standing Stone and Ecce Cor Meum more original, interesting and daring. But it is just a first listening and who the hell am I anyway Anyway, don't misunderstand, good music which I will listen to again, but I still prefer Standing Stone and Ecce Cor Meum. PS Do I hear some faint boo's from the audience at the end? Not deservedly, then, IMO.

What? I've never heard boos at a ballet even when it was boring. The crowd is usually pretty stuffy.
-
@Kathryn O: I may be mistaken, it is buried in the applause, but it seemed a faint oo-sound, which I took for: boo. I hope I am wrong. Come to think of it, it might also have been the opposite: GOOD! A bit like "I buried Paul - Cranberry Sauce", then.

I discovered after downloading my link to the live recording, that it is mastered at the wrong speed and is waaaaay too slow. Topspin apparently sent out the wrong link. : Contact them via Customer Support if you have music that is too slow, and request the updated link to the correct files. The piece sounds a LOT better at the real speed.

Particuarly loving Imprisonment (Part 3) and Moonrise (4). Can definitely 'hear' Paul in the last movement. I'm no expert but it is very pretty. Elements of Gershwin in Hall of Dance, can feel this was written to move to. The first movement has the feeling of being under water with the swell and rise of the music. Quite melancholic.

I just published a story today about how the problems with the download were resolved by Topspin. Here's the link: http://www.examiner.com/beatles-in-national/consumer-alert-problems-with-mccartney-ocean-s-kingdom-download-resolved Also, I wrote a story yesterday detailing how to know if you have a bad set of files. I just got my CD from Amazon today, which did have that lovely download card, which allayed my fears of not getting the live version if I didn't buy from Paul's site. ) Oh, as for "boo's"--I was at the premiere, and there definitely weren't any boo's there. ) Clapping and shouting for Paul/Stella, yes. Boo's? No. )
-
By the way, I LOVED the booklet included with the CD--great photos and write-ups.
-
Just so folks know--through Amazon (US), the Ocean's Kingdom CD from Hear Music is only $11.99, and it comes with a card inside to access the digital download of the premiere performance. It was advertised at $14.90 something, but they just refunded over $2.50 because the price dropped from the pre-order price. Now that Paul is announcing some late 2011 concert dates, we could all afford to save some money! wink

Walliebaby, Good to hear I was mistaken about Paul being boo'd. Please ignore my remark on this. My wrong. I enjoy the music, and am waiting for the cd....

I'm disappointed that the album version didn't come with the pictures and stuff. I mean, I got the digital booklet, but it's not the same as having a hard copy.

I was there too, what you are hearing are people yelling "Wooooo!" definitely not 'boo".

Nice to see some tempered reviews that aren't just out to sharpen the axes of the reviewers. Arlene--a lovely story about a close encounter with Paul. I'm sure he would love to hear your love story some day...
Thank you, Walliebaby. Hope springs eternal!
