Paul's New Album-- "New"-- CONFIRMED
-
I'm just dreading in a few years when or if Paul comes out with another album and this NEW album is no longer new and we'll have to resort to say not the NEW album but his NEWEST album....sometimes new can get old. I get the past Beatle/Wing Comparisons to any new song he makes but I get tired of it personally. I think Driving Rain was one album where there wasn't a reference to anything Beatley-est. Perhaps I'm wrong on that. It's 50 years of life and experience that influence Paul. I tend to enjoy the state of the moment for any artist rather than try to pin point what it sounds like from their previous albums. Maybe that's human nature that I tend to dismiss with bands I like.

OOPS1 I started a "new" thread on this before seeing everyone is discussing it on here....perhaps the Mods can merge my "new" thread into this one. I think this is Macca at his pop/beatlesque best. I know others will disagree but this is the best thing he has released in since MAF.
Haha... This is the only thing he has released since MAF
I wouldn't count Kisses on the Bottom because it's a standards album, but I consider Electric Arguments to be as much a Paul album as MAF.

My thoughts on the song: 1) I love it, but it doesn't feel like a single for today's market. I can easily hear it piping out of office speakers and malls, etc., but it doesn't fit into today's charts. Someone brought up Bublé's "Haven't Met You Yet"; yes, similar thing, bouncy and fun, but didn't hit the top of the charts, although you can hear it everywhere you go. 2) I notice it's on iTunes only as an album track, and not as a stand-alone single too, as you would expect for a true single, so maybe this is more of a "preview" track after all. 3) Seems to function the same way as the title track of "Flaming Pie": a jaunty little self-referential number, tucked at the end of Side One. (Yes, I do think there'll be vinyl of the 12-track album!) 4) People keep mentioning the Beach Boys in the harmonies at the end, but I don't really hear that so much. They were more about a laid-back California vibe; this seems more like olde traditional English, like a cappella caroling almost (kind of like what "Glee" does in between scenes), and certainly Baroque touches! 5) Again, I love it! It's aimed straight at Paul/Beatles fans, and it's instantly memorable!
Indulge me! No one refuted any of this.
All the songs except "New" are album only because it is a pre order on ITUNES. You can buy the song "New" on ITUNES for $1.29 (US) which I did.

If you look hard enough, you can find stuff. Ride into Jaipur seemed very George-esque to me. Kind of like Within You, Without You. But I agree with your comment for the most part. Maybe the fact that it wasn't Beatley is why, in general, it wasn't a very good album.

Dare I say it? Maybe this is Paul's way of saying this is it for the studio. I'm not saying I agree with it, but surely they've thought these titles out. And realistically, it took him six years to get this out...a lot can happen in six years should he wait that long again...

love it

Love the song, and I think Paul sounds great! For those who were discussing charting possibilities: there is no current station format in the US that would play anything *new* by Paul (or any other rock artist really). If you are not alternative, hip hop, R & B, pop, or country, you are outta luck. The rock stations ONLY play old "classic" rock. Nothing new, whether you are Paul, the Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi or whoever. The pop stations are playing Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and that kind of stuff, so Paul doesn't fit there. Rock is dead on the radio, other than the oldies and alternative.
-
I could hear this getting airplay on our "Lite FM" station...they play pop music from the 60's to modern. It's pretty interesting. They played "Ever Present Past" when MAF came out.

Not true. "New" is already getting played on KFOG-FM in San Francisco, a station that plays the format known as "Triple A" (for adult album alternative): Some older "classic rock" stuff but a healthy dose of new pop and rock material. This song is perfect for that format as well as for Adult Contemporary (aka "lite rock"). Both Dance Tonight and Ever Present Past got respectable (though not spectacular) radio play in both of those formats, and I'll bet anyone $100 that "New" does better. The response to the song on Paul's YouTube channel (311,000+ views in less than a day and a half) is just spectacular. As a single -- i.e. as a promotional vehicle to get people to notice he's got a new album coming -- this is the best thing to come from Paul since at least The World Tonight and Young Boy.

Hey Bruce, Told you release at end of August!!!!! He made me sweat it out
-
I heard it on the radio this morning. Swore it was 96.5 Jack FM in Seattle but I could be wrong.
-
Wix, I don't believe that this will be the last album by any measure. Really isn't six years..2008 Electric Arguments, 2009 Live at Citi Field, 2011 Ocean's Kingdom, 2012 Kisses on the bottom and plus tons of touring in between. Been just over a year since he started recording songs for a new album. Plus the music biz is not like it was..there is no more releasing an album every year..very normal to have 2 to 3 years break between releases
-
whoops...2009 Good Evening New York City

You win. But having a new single out with zero word in the trade press is pretty bleeping unusual. But the marketing blitz is on. Paul called into a Chicago radio station for a live interview today, and I'm sure there will be a lot more, along with the iHeart Radio festival.

Well sure, they'll always find a way for more releases. But how closely can you compare "New" and "Ocean's Kingdom"? Two totally different concepts. It's been six years since his last all original pop album of new material under the name Paul McCartney and it's always possible it COULD be his last. Valid?
-
yes, It went from nothing to overload real quick yesterday and today!!
-
yes Wix, put writing, preparing, recording and then releasing projects still take a similiar course. And then add in his pretty decent touring schedule those years....I think that it's very decent production. I would personally be happier with a pop record as would most of us but he's the boss of him and he decides when and if it's time for that particuliar project. And we are not even talking about the Archive projects released during those years

Yes, I was just remarking that it's not being offered separately as a single, which iTunes has done a lot in the past, even if it's just the one song. By the way, the song is currently at #137 on iTunes, so if it does make an impact on Billboard, it will have to be from YouTube views.

The problem is IMO that most McCartney fans will buy the entire album (ITUNES) when it is released and not buy the single in advance. From what I read on this board earlier, think the youtube response has been good.
