OOPS1 I started a "new" thread on this before seeing everyone is discussing it on here....perhaps the Mods can merge my "new" thread into this one. I think this is Macca at his pop/beatlesque best. I know others will disagree but this is the best thing he has released in since MAF.
Haha... This is the only thing he has released since MAF

Those were Firemen and Standards... I'm talking about a Paul credited Rock album

My thoughts on the song: 1) I love it, but it doesn't feel like a single for today's market. I can easily hear it piping out of office speakers and malls, etc., but it doesn't fit into today's charts. Someone brought up Bublé's "Haven't Met You Yet"; yes, similar thing, bouncy and fun, but didn't hit the top of the charts, although you can hear it everywhere you go. 2) I notice it's on iTunes only as an album track, and not as a stand-alone single too, as you would expect for a true single, so maybe this is more of a "preview" track after all. 3) Seems to function the same way as the title track of "Flaming Pie": a jaunty little self-referential number, tucked at the end of Side One. (Yes, I do think there'll be vinyl of the 12-track album!) 4) People keep mentioning the Beach Boys in the harmonies at the end, but I don't really hear that so much. They were more about a laid-back California vibe; this seems more like olde traditional English, like a cappella caroling almost (kind of like what "Glee" does in between scenes), and certainly Baroque touches! 5) Again, I love it! It's aimed straight at Paul/Beatles fans, and it's instantly memorable!

What a great track. Penny Lane meets the Beach Boys with shades of his early eighties work. So far, more people seem to like it than not. I'm curious to some peoples remarks about his voice It's like they haven't listened to any new material of his since 1993 ! Pretty much since Flaming Pie came out, Paul's voice has shown signs of ageing. I don't think he sounds hoarse at all . In some areas, his voice sounds older (news flash - he's 71 : ) , but at the same time - it still sounds pretty effortless to me - especially on the high falsetto. The whole track is in a pretty high key actually - testament to how he can actually still cut it pretty well. Apart from being 71,unlike many of his peers, he is still a busy singer/ musician who tours all the time. There's bound to wear and tear . This is McCartney 2013 - and it sounds great to me. Contrary to some posters , I think this type of track (nice retro pop) is long overdue. He's done a lot of varied more obscure stuff recently . Time to remind the public , that he can still write a good straightforward pop song. I hope it's a hit - it deserves to be, but as Miley has shown us - you need to be good at twerking to sell records nowadays.

I'm shocked how many of you hate the song! While I respect your opinions, I couldn't disagree more. I love it...it's catchy as hell and makes me feel happy. Pure Paul, but it is indeed something "new" and doesn't sound like a rewrite of anything from his past. To each their own
I'm surprised at the picking and pecking, too. Paul has managed to re-create the essence of The Beatles -- yet with a totally new, original melody. To me, this track is his latest "Listen To What The Man Said."

it reminds me a lot of Ever Present Past actually..

Yes, it does sound a little strained here and there on some high notes....except the falsetto...curiously.
Actually, not so curious. I'm assuming you're talking about the "Oooh-wooh-ohh-ooh" bit which goes through a thing called the vocal break which produces strangely clean sounds but is more difficult to control. I've known singers who have had colds which completely screws up the top end of their normal vocal range but still sound fine when they go through the break.

It reminds me to "Your Mother Should Know" meets the Beach Boys. It also has some "English Tea" fingerprints here and there. What a beautiful song. Can't wait for the NEW album. We are all blessed to be contemporary to this man. He is writting history as we speak and even if he doesn't even know that I exist, he's a friend of mine who has been bringing me joy for decades. I can't express the happiness of having listened to this song for first time. Loved it!
Truly a very beautiful song, I love it too... it makes you lonnnnng to hear the new album!! CAN'T WAIT!! The tune is stuck in my head and the first thing I listened to when I woke up!! I LOVE IT!! The last bit reminds me of the Beach Boys and the whole song is giving me Good Vibrations....I'm very happy and excited to hear more! YAY PAUL!!! MORE HAPPY MUSIC !!!
