Memory Almost Full has aged very well

Are you guys still talking about this album? Even though I have the regular and the deluxe version, I think I've only listened to each once or maybe twice. Not in my top ten, sorry.
It's in my top five.
Top Five Paul solo albums.... or Top Five Paul releases post-Beatles (including Wings)?

MAF is one of my faves and who says is a bad decade? In the 90s he only put 2 original releases Off the ground and Flaming pie and for me these 2 are fabulous! In the 2010s we got NEW and this year we get one New! In the 2000 we got 3 for me is like 2 just MAF and CHAOS because Driving rain is not so good in fact Driving is part of a group of albums that i don't love from Paul The other ones Ram,Red rose,Give my regards.,Venus and Mars 5 albums i don,t love from Paul all the others i really love love love

It's been almost ten years since Memory Almost Full; in that period of time we've had one studio album, New, and Electric Arguments which, despite some good tracks, was a load of rubbish under a different name.
I understand your thinking, but disagree about Electric Arguments, which I thought was one the most energised and interesting albums he'd been involved with for years; it was nice to see his experimental side come to forefront again. Chaos and Creation was a great, yet bleaker affair; good for almost the opposite reason. Memory Almost Full had fun moments, but I find it hard to get past the brash, noisy mastering.

What was experimental about Electric Arguments? It veered between standard rock/pop and ambient noise. That is all.

Okay, I got my deluxe MAF CD out and will re-listen to it in the car Monday back and forth from work. (I don't have a working CD player in my house - well, I suppose I could use the blu-ray player or my laptop, but I like to listen in the car)

He could still do some of these live today. Live... That Was Me

House of WaxI agree and have been saying it for years !! These are from show in Paris and it was awesome. Crowd got into "That Was Me" and I have said it before (maybe on this thread) that countries outside the US are a lot more into his solo songs than people in the US. I have loved "House Of Wax" the moment I first heard it, haunting song with a couple of great little guitar solos.

Yep, I say it too. Why can't he sing songs that he wrote for & with his "older" voice rather than keep trying to hit those notes that he sang with a 20 & 30 something year old voice.

_________________________________________________________ Thanks Oobu24 for putting these 2 videos up. This Paris show was one of his best. He shakes things up by starting the show (coming from behind the curtain) playing Blackbird. Then he does Dance Tonight and shortly after the curtain opens up with the Band. The Paris crowd goes wild at that point. I wished they would come out with a DVD of this show. It was one of the better examples of Paul showing real balance of his full career at the time. He played Dance Tonight, Mama Only Knows, House of Wax, That was Me, Calico Skies, Flaming Pie, Here Today and a few more Solo Songs. Could't agree more with Yankeefan. How do you not continue to play House of Wax and That Was Me for a "full tour". Great songs! Oobu24, once I saw those 2 videos I have been at my computer for an hour playing the other songs they show on the side from the same Paris show. Paul and the Band were really hot that night. I also loved the venue. It seemed so intimate. I recommend that others also see the other videos. Yes, Paul's voice might have had a few cracks from time to time but overall his vocals were great. This was at a point that he still showed the old Macca power vocals. For those Macca maniacs like me, especially see the Band of the Run Video. It actually starts with a slight boo boo and Paul says to the crowd...as you can see, this is not a tape, it is live. But then they go right into BOTR. To me it was be best video I've ever seen on the song. Paul's voice is just terrific and when the song gets into its peak, the Paris audience absolutely goes nuts. If you haven't seen it, please do. I think you'll see what I mean. As I said, Paul should put out a commercial DVD of this show.

A few labels have released versions of this show. It was on TV in Paris (Canal TV). But MPL has not released anything.

I mentioned that I'm a neophyte when it comes to music instruments so I was asking the question. What I describe as "horns" is most glaring to my ears on "You Tell Me". If you still have your CD, listen to "You Tell Me" especially at the very end. It sounds like a very cheap Synthesizer trying to imitate horns or another type instrument. Maybe it's a synthesizer trying to imitate a Hammond Organ. I'm not sure what it is, but to my ears, it is a horrible sound. I ear the same sound on certain parts of the other songs I mentioned but it is not as glaring. Whatever it is, it hurts the song in my opinion. I really like "You Tell Me" as a song but I cringe with the sound. Maybe someone who know a lot more can tell me where David Kahne went wrong. Maybe "Live players" would have made a significant difference.
I hear guitars and keyboards. If you don't like it, fair enough, but we have to assume that Paul's ok with it. To you, David Kahne went wrong somewhere. Maybe to them, they got exactly what they wanted. They both have some experience in this department.

He could play absolutely anything in China and no one would complain that it's the same old songs.

I have a couple of different ones and yes, they are bootlegs.

Well, I have listened to the first 9 songs on the deluxe version and so far I am underwhelmed (and I haven't even listened to Nod Your Head which I know I HATE!) Sorry, MAF fans, give me Flaming Pie (or almost any other solo Paul album) any day!

____________________________________________________ Nancy, How do you not like...Dance Tonight, Every Present Past, See Your Sunshine, Only Mama Knows, You Tell Me and Mr. Bellamy (the first 6 songs). I meant to tell you to skip the 7th song (Gratitude) which really took me a while to say it was ok. After the inferior Gratitude (don't like Paul's voice) the next 5 songs are terrific starting with Vintage Clothes. Of course you know Dance Tonight and Only Mama Knows because Paul played them for a whole tour. But Ever Present Past is one of my favorite Paul Solo songs of all time. Love the beat. Check out the video for Ever Present Past when the dancers imitate Paul dancing to the song...it was hilarious. I like See Your Sunshine because it is Paul in his "soul" voice. Mr. Bellamy is also one of my favorites. the Deluxe Version has the 3 songs at the end...the best by far of the group is "Why So Blue" which really should have replaced Gratitude in my opinion. You just have to have MAF playing in the car for a few days and it will really grow on you. But don't judge it on Gratitude or Nod Your Head. All the other songs are really good. Nod Your Head is actually not bad...it is wacky Paul after the very sad song...The end of the end

Ever Present Past is okay. I know the video. Never really loved Dance Tonight, sorry. I guess I like Only Mama Knows the best. Don't really like Mr. Bellamy and can't remember See Your Sunshine. Loathed Gratitude. Sorry, will never have anything but dislike (to put it mildly) for Nod Your Head. This album is just not my cup of (English) tea! Will listen to the rest tomorrow "On My Way To Work."
