London - casting call - Paul's "Queenie Eye" video

Hey, thequarrygirl, I think you got quoted in this article here: http://joshgill.wordpress.com/2013/10/03/new-macca-singlemusic-video-queenie-eye-set-for-release/

Thanks for sharing your story. That's fantastic! parlance

Quarry Girl, I smiled a big smile while reading your post. Congratulations on getting picked and thank you for sharing your story. I probably would have started sobbing if I walked into Studio 2 with Paul present. Very happy for you and I am looking forward to seeing the video. You will have to post a screen cap if you ended up in it.

thequarrygirl, congratulations!

Likewise, I was disappointed not to receive an invite. Just stumbled across a little more information on the video though. Looks like it's being filmed at Abbey Road, and is for the track Queenie Eye. http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/music/paul-mccartney-bans-facebook-from-set-of-new-music-video-29628033.html If sources are to be believed, anyway...
I saw on Paul's label's media website that they were planning a Queenie Eye hashtag for Twitter, so I guess this confirms it. I've been saying for a while that I thought Paul would push something else besides "New".
Of course there will be a second single, and it looks like it's Queenie Eye. How soon it comes out will depend on how New does over the next couple weeks. It could be soon if the first single seems to be stalling, or it might not be for a while. What I wonder is, does this mean we're not going to get a proper video for "New"? You'd think it would be out now if one was coming, so maybe not.
I'm guessing not now, what with the song being released for a good few weeks. It's a shame; I thought the lyric video was a little bit make-do - and also it was a shame they cut off the outro.
They've been cutting off the outro in the live performances too. I suspect the promotion for the song "New" is pretty much over. The lyric video didn't boost it onto the charts, and neither did its appearance in the movie. If "Queenie Eye" is a driving, rocking track like they're saying, it sounds like a better candidate to cross over to other radio formats (besides AC and AAA) and maybe even be a hit in its own right, as opposed to just promoting the album. We'll know for sure by the time Paul's on Jimmy Fallon's show, when we see what song(s) he performs.
A couple folks on Steve Hoffman's forums have linked to blogs reporting that "Queenie Eye" will be released to radio Oct. 8, but I haven't seen any sort of official confirmation, or anything on major industry sites. On radio, "New" has done okay -- not spectacularly -- on AC and Triple A, where Paul usually does decently, but there's been no sign of it moving out beyond that. We're probably delusional to expect any sort of major radio hit at this point, but I am looking forward to hearing Queenie Eye. I wonder what he'll play on Fallon, or if he's even performing. Maybe they'll just do an interview and show the "Queenie Eye" video. That seems to be a bit of a rush to get the the thing done, but I imagine Paul can afford to pay overtime to get it done if they want.

I write as one of the twenty fans who were lucky enough to win the extras casting competition. In my three decades on this planet, I've never won a SINGLE competition, so to get the call saying I'd won this one was beyond thrilling! We were asked to arrive at Abbey Road studios for 9am the next day, which just made it all doubly exciting - not only was it to be PAUL, but it was Paul AT ABBEY ROAD! The brief was to dress in something 'cool, modern or trendy'. I am possibly the least 'cool' person in existence, so goodness knows how I got picked. I need not go into the sheer level of excitement of walking into the front door of the studio and down the stairs to the canteen, which was to be our holding area for most of the day. Just incredible. In addition to the fan competition winners (all of whom were absolutely lovely), there were another 40 or so hired agency extras, who looked at the 20 fans' near-hysteria with wry amusement. We were given a lyric sheet to "Queenie Eye", told to familiarise ourselves with the song, and sat and.. waited. For NINE WHOLE HOURS. Meanwhile, the paid actors and various others got pulled out and taken off for filming, while the rest of us got more and more agitated about whether we'd ever actually get to do anything at all. The crew and the Abbey Road canteen staff were all lovely, and kept us fed and watered - but as the hours wore by it was mightily nerve-wracking, and we began to wonder if we'd ever get used, or whether it was all in vain. If nothing else, we told ourselves, at least we'd get to say we'd spent a day in the Abbey Road canteen, surrounded by framed pictures of the boys sitting around with a brew in the very same spot! Various recognisable members of Paul's family and entourage were hanging around - the radiant Mary McCartney, the focused-as-ever John Hammel, and the very dapper Giles Martin (swoon!). And by nipping along the corridor to "go to the loo" (i.e. explore, obviously!), I ended up bumping into all manner of people, such as Meryl Streep, Gary Barlow, Kate Moss and Tom Ford. Rumours were also circulating that Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Jeremy Irons and Alice Eve had been there the day before. But honestly, who cares about Hollywood fodder like that when Paul's in the equation?! Finally, at about 6pm, all the extras were summoned into Studio 2. STUDIO 2! The holiest of holies! It really is like stepping into a time capsule - that familiar parquet flooring, the acoustic baffles on the walls, the control room steps - WOW. So overcome by all this was I that it took me a moment to realise that the subtle tinkling coming from the piano was none other than Paul himself, who was sitting there, casually jamming away. We were all spaced out around the studio - some lounging on the rugs, some perching on the control room steps, some standing up on flight cases. They then basically did about 5 takes of everyone dancing away to the song, with Paul at the piano, followed by close-ups of various featured actors (such as some long-haired pagan types, a group of urban youths, etc). Paul, looking healthy and happy in blue, and was wonderfully relaxed and chatty throughout. To witness him sitting there, 'thinking out loud' on the piano between takes - IN ABBEY ROAD STUDIO 2 - was, without one of the highlights of my entire life. He broke into the odd jazz standard, a bit of Babyface, and a chorus of Lady Madonna. Whadda man. A Hofner bass was propped up on a stand behind him. I let my mind ring with all the fly-on-the-wall studio chatter from back in the day, and it was as if the past fifty years just drifted away. Magical. And to top it all off, Peter Blake was sitting on a chair just behind me! What an absolute honour to be part of such an incredible day. I doubt you'll even be able to see the back of my head or edge of my foot in the background of the finished video, but I care not. I've spent fifteen years doing the whole overnight queuing at his signings and camping out for a spot in the front row at his concerts thing, and none of it tops last night. I made my way home - after an hour of manic dancing under baking studio lights - convinced that life just could not get any better. [N.B. Just because I don't want to get into any trouble, I should make it clear that although we all signed release forms, which I believe contained confidentiality clauses, we weren't given copies for our reference so I can't be entirely sure what I am or am not permitted to reveal. There was definitely a ban on social networking via Twitter, Facebook, email or text on the day itself, but a crew member made a reference to it being OK to share afterwards. That said, if I'm breaking any rules, I'll obviously be more than happy to remove this post at the request of the production company!]
What a day for you! Thanks for sharing your experience and congrats!

Excellent write up quarrygirl. Being in Abbey Road studios is a big thrill, (i've been in studion 2 six times) but never with Paul present so that was ceretainly a very unique occasion for you which I'm so glad that you enjoyed.

Yes, I'm sure they can have it done in time if they want to. I'm excited to see it! I've been following the SH forums, too, though I'm not a member. I've seen you make some good points. Quite a wild ride over there sometimes!

Not quite an aniversary? Had Paul held the video-shoot on the following day (Wednesday 3rd October) then it would have been exactly 35 years to the day since Paul was in studio 2 Abbey Road recording and filming the Rockestra Theme session.

Wow quarrygirl, thanks for sharing that!! How nice for you I can't wait to see the video!! Awesome!!! When it comes out, you'll have to tell us which one is you! From Mary's Instagram http://instagram.com/p/e-3KrnThsm/ http://instagram.com/p/e8H4BiThuG/

Thank you all for your kind comments on the write-up! I'm still reeling from it all, and the song has been well and truly lodged in my head for the past 48 hours! Has the song itself actually been heard publicly at all yet, or am I still in a privileged position to have heard it? I'd say it's got the driving rhythm of Let 'Em In, crossed with the lyrical absurdity of C Moon. And some nice call-and-response bits - "O.U.T. spells out! (Out!)", etc. Yes, I shall absolutely post a screen cap if I end up being visible in the finished video. (I'm really not expecting to get a look-in though, given that Kate Moss was writhing in a miniskirt on a podium a few feet away!)

PS, hope you don't mind me asking, are you the girl from Paul's wedding, who the press took a few pics of??
'Fraid not! (Although I mentioned having queued overnight for concerts and promotional appearances in the past, I'd never do so for a private/family occasion!)

And it'd have been fifty years to the day since John, Paul and Ringo were there recording Little Child and I Wanna Be Your Man! http://www.beatlesbible.com/1963/10/03/recording-i-wanna-be-your-man-little-child/

Well done again, sounds great! Kate Moss writhing, that will get a few hot under the collar!!

Personally I'd rather have Kate Bush writhering away in a miniskirt on a podium a few feet away.

O-U-T spells out? Oh my...another Beatles flash back? They used that in Christmastime is Here Again.
-
I wonder if they're doing this video like they did All You Need Is Love. Celebs lounging around, other folks hanging out while the band played. Sounds similar.

Yes, it does!

And of course the last time Paul clowned around with famous actors in a video that I can remember was... the last time he had a US Top 10 hit.
