London - casting call - Paul's "Queenie Eye" video
-
He's a bit of a "metrosexual" (?)--we know celebs "are just people too." And this might backfire a little among some music fans, this celebrity-heavy video--remind them that they're not famous, they're just "nobodies." Some might feel that sour reaction. I admire great actors like Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Jude Law. But I admire writers and musicians and singers more. If they'd kept the focus more on "the music" that might have satisfied more.
-
That's the game of rags to riches Dogs and bitches hunt for fame Until you think you know which way to turn maybe the reason for the STARS Who DO NOTHING BUT APPEAR !!
-
I really enjoyed the video for its simplicity and for seeing Paul in studio 2 Abbey Road. I certainly didn't find the 'celebs'(sic) a distraction in any way. Having spent several hours in studio 2 myself earlier this year its quite strange seeing Paul almost occupying the same space I had.

I'm so dissappointed by this video, its completely meaningless to me. Queenie Eye is so much more vibrant and colorful, and youthful, kids playing, dogs barking, feeling lost, excitement.. it all could have been captured so much better, more thought out, using the video medium to illustrate things and say something. this video does none of that for me. I think it honestly will turn younger rock fans off seeing that garbage, its turned me off and I like the song! It looks old.. a bunch of actors, many of them over 50/60 years of age, grooving to a song thats less groovy than it is rocking! maybe if they were all rocking out much harder nah that video is just BAD. I'll add, I know Pearl Jam is one band that doesn't believe in music videos, and they won't do them, because they feel videos rob the listener of having their own vision and experience of the songs. so it could be that Paul sort of feels that same way and doesn't want to present any visual representation other than just him playing and people dancing. could be.. but Queenie Eye is such a visual song for me. I mean I see youthful stuff like kids playing and playgrounds, energy, colors, and stuff I mentioned before. could have been a real cool peice of art that vid, IMO.
They could have easily included some kids playing the game. This is kinda like the DVDs his people put out. All the affidavitats by famous people about how great Paul is. We already know that. I think it's...ok.
Seriously Oobu! the kids game would be a no-brainer, just to flash that image in there at some point. I guess we all have our own vision of the song so its just my opinion, but cmon Paul, wtf is that!? congrats on having Meryl Streep stop by the studio... and Jude Law, get up and dance will you! Jude Law knows how to party harder than that.
Sorry folks. I totally disagree. It's not a playful, happy song. It's a dark song with a langorous (sp?) beat. And humiliating celebrities is pretty much the exact opposite point of the song. The song is not about a children's game. That's just the metaphor he's using to make a comment on celebrities just being people, too. I LOVE the video. It's an understated message and I fully expect that the morons at the Daily Mail will hate everything about the video because those people spend their days eviscerating celebrities for stupid reasons. Great song, great video.
I think you're right actually Michelley, and thats cool, thanks for pointing out that subtext I never caught on to! But still, given that, you like that video? Not sure, could have been way better IMO. I do see more the theme now, but it's a boring video to me. Great posting though Michelley!

SHAME ON YOU STELLA ! How could you let your dad wear those goddamn - awful sandals ? Even flip-flops would have been better.
-
The video's fine... and if you don't like it, just shut your eyes and enjoy the brilliant song. Job done!

I'll concede that -- with Michelley's post -- the video makes more sense now, on a thematic level. It still sucks.

I've gotta say, Paulie could butch up his mannerisms a bit. He seems to prance about a bit much at the start and end of the video. He's almost Elton-esque.
Yeah, at his age he should start to consider what people might think and butch up his mannerisms : Maybe the sandals are a reference to the cover of Abbey Road? I like the video, Johnny Depp looking so gorgeous ops: and Meryl Streep is lovely.
-
Don't get me wrong folks..... As annoying as watching a bunch of actors in this video - I'd take this ANY day over the CHEESE that was the Driving Rain promos back in 2002.

IIRC From a lover to a friend was just a performance video similar to Fine Line, and Your loving flame was good to see something more than just sat singing! Not too cheesy i don't think?!
-
I think 'Your Loving Flame' was cheesey with Paul flying around
-
Surprised that so many people don't like this video! The celebs don't bother me--I rather like they way they keep multiplying but Paul doesn't seem to see them (notice how he steadies that guitar at the end and seems puzzled by the fact that it's out of place!). And I *love* seeing Paul in Abbey Road Studio 2!
-
Paul wears sandals A LOT! Or even goes barefoot. Just be glad that it wasn't these: (notice the heartshaped freckle?) He must hate shoes.

Have to agree.. I saw it twice and literally have no interest in it. That's a bad sign
