Hi all, Anyone know where I can buy this song? iTunes doesn't have it on All The Best. Any tips? Thanks! Terry

Is there a youtube video of it? Download that & rip the sound from it to a MP3? I've never done that but I would think that's possible.

It's a bonus cut on "Press To Play". As is "Write Away", another great tune left off the album when first issued. Those two should have been there all along. ("Spies Like Us" is yet another bonus cut on that CD.)

"Press to Play" was Sept 1986, while "Once upon a long ago" wasn't done til Dec 1987, so impossible to be on the album originally! It's only on a a bonus track from the 1990s reissues. But i agree that the "Press to play" singles b sides were fantastic - "write away" and "tough on a tightrope" in particylar (though "its not true" isn't bad either!). The original cd of Press in 1986 *did* include those b sides btw, just not the vinyl. Speaking of "Once upon a long ago" - i love love love the b side "back on my feet", the first paul and elvis collaboration to be released. Fantastic song, played both sides of my vinyl to death at the time

                  .

Which country? Because it's not on mine. I've heard that it was included on the UK version of All The Best.

Yeah, I meant what you said. : lol You're much more knowledgeable than I on what was on what and when. I just know that the CD of Press that I have has it as a bonus cut...that would from the 1990s reissue, apparently. I don't think I purchased it in CD form until that time....or later. I was putting together a "Best of" for Paul....and I didn't have that album/CD. I recalled...on vinyl and cassette tape...liking"Footprints", "Pretty Little Head", "Press" and "Only Love Remains". I was pleased to hear "Write Away" and "Once Upon A Long Ago" when the CD arrived. They were new to me! I really didn't know when they were recorded versus those originally on the album. Guess I just supposed that Paul had them all along but left 'em off, as he is want to do from time to time...with songs he has left over. Anyway, thanks.

It was his UK Christmas single in 1987. I remember it getting lots of airplay. It is on the UK release of All The Best (you can buy an MP3 download of it from AmazonUK for 79p ) and as someone previously posted, it's on the Paul McCartney Collection CD remaster of Press to Play, as well.

Yes, I have that. I paid about $15 for it, and I think it was the first CD single I ever bought!

Oh, I didn't think you were trying to be show off! I was happy that you knew so much about that album and period of time....and I can see why, as you explained! One DOES kind of soak it in when it's the early years of your own era. Mine was, uh, a bit before that. I can talk about what happened on each and every day when Abbey Road was released and when the "Paul Is Dead" clues and rumors were rampant. I see you're in the UK, so you probably are not familiar with all the various TV shows we have in America....one of which is "Raising Hope," a comedy. On the most recent episode, one character simply mentioned ",....when you play it backwards, it says Paul is dead. the other said, "Oh, and they replaced him with a robot, which pretty much explains why he is one of the last to still be alive...." I guess the point is, that everyone was just expected to know what/whom they were referring to and which Paul, etc., etc. No additional information/explanation was needed. It's just understood. They do that all the time on TV. One hears....She Yoko'ed the whatever or "she's gonna' Yoko that". Her name has become a verb for messing things up and gets mentioned all the time. We all just know what it's meant.

It's very likely that Once Upon A Long Ago will go down as Paul's last UK top ten hit ever, which is a crying shame. : The only likelihood this will change will be when he passes away, and then it's more like Beatle Paul will have big hits all over again.

I must have had some other site that someone told me about, but simply don't recall. If you send me your address in a private message, I will very happy to burn it on a CD and send it to you!!! Love the song. So now, I read that it was a single in the UK! I love the song....the video of it on YouTube is great. Should have been a hit in America too. Dang!!!!

Love the song. So now, I read that it was a single in the UK! I love the song....the video of it on YouTube is great. Should have been a hit in America too. Dang!!!!

It's on the 'Paul McCartney Collection' version of Press to Play...this version was a reissue back in 1993...Some bonus cuts on that album (specifically Write Away, It's Not True, and Tough On A Tight Rope) were bonus cuts on the original CD (the vinyl and cassette tape versions didn't have these bonus songs) On the other hand, Spies Like Us and Once Upon A Long Ago were only included later on, on the just mentioned 'Paul McCartney Collection' version...Incidently, these 'Paul McCartney Collection' albums were technically considered 'imports' here in the states, but were pretty easy to find and were not that much more (if at all) than the domestic counterparts[/code]

The Willow turns his back on inclement weather
