My Three Favorite Albums By Paul

Driving Rain, Choas and Creation in the Backyard, Memory Almost Full. I am not sure why I love these three so much. Maybe for Driving Rain is because I got to see him in concert for when he did a tour after he made that album. For Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, a lot of those songs describe me and how I feel. And for Memory Almost Full, hard to say why I love it so much. I love all of Paul's albums but for some reason I am hooked onto these three especially and they mean a lot to me. Paul is just incredible. He writes songs that I can at least relate to and understand. A lot of what he feels in his songs in these three albums is also what I feel a lot of the time depending upon what kind of mood I am in. Today I put on Driving Rain and I sat there listening to it and I was like just WOW. It got me pumped up! Paul is amazing. Even when I put an album on that I have not listened to by Paul in awhile like Off the Ground or Flaming Pie, when I hear it I feel wide awake and pumped up with energy. His music is a life savor. you can share your top three favorite albums here too if you want if there is not already a thread like this....not sure if there was or not.

Good point Nancy but if we count Wings then we've got to count the Beatles as well. So based solely on solo albums,my choice is....and I'm not even going to count Ram here: 1. Chaos And Creation In The Backyard 2. New 3. McCartney II

_________________________________________________________ Bruce, If you are talking the 1980's to the present, I agree with you on the choices above. I also love Tug of War which for some reason, many seem to overlook. After revisiting FITD over the last few weeks, I would put "Flowers" in the mix as well. While Paul's lesser albums often have specific points of brilliance, but for his best and my personal favorite albums I go by consistency. All of these albums stated, have many very good to great tracks on the whole. Yes, they all seem to have a clunker or two, but I'm talking as a whole. Because Paul's career after the Beatles could never approach his work and especially the overwhelming mass appeal with the Fabs (this would go for the other Beatles as well) I view Paul's entire solo work as being underrated as a whole. There are so many people who liked the Beatles a lot, but don't really know songs like Wanderlust, Somebody Who Cares, Put It There, This One, Somedays, Young Boy, Jenny Wren, Too Much Rain, Only Mama Knows, The End of the End etc. etc. I have a boomer friend who loved the Beatles but it's like he totally lives in the past. He will throw Revolver, the White Album etc. on his car CD player all the time but never even consider buying a terrific album like Tug of War. Believe it or not, I think there are a lot of people like that. They remember the "good old music days" but won't invest any time in "newer music" even on artists they once loved. That is why Paul's main way to make money (besides royalties) is to go out on tour. Because there are so many people who want to live in the past (the nostalgia mindset) and will invest a lot of money to see him, he believes he has to play such a heavy Beatles setlist. I guess it makes sense but as quite a few of us on this site have pointed out, Paul really shortchanges his Solo career.

These three are my favorites to listen to even though TOW is better than Driving Rain IMO. I have always liked Driving Rain, very guitar oriented album. I absolutely adore McCartney's vocal on "Lonely Road" and "About You" is one of his best rockers ever. I also saw him live on that tour and the songs sounded great. As I have said before, CHAOS is his best album and it has no clunkers. I understand it is fairly somber record but sometimes it fits the mood of the day for me. Is there a best acoustic McCartney song than "Jenny Wren"? MAF is a great album to listen to when you are in a good mood. Songs like "Ever Present Past","That Was Me" and "Dance Tonight" make you want to sing along and dance. "Only Mama Knows" rocks and IMO "House of Wax" is haunting and needed to be played live more than once. Finally, these three albums show McCartney has been in great form since the year 2000. Add EA and "New" into the mix and it is hard to say there has been another period in his career where he written this well for as long a period of time.

Not including Wings, my favorite three (currently): 1. Memory Almost Full 2. Flaming Pie 3. Run Devil Run Those are in no particular order. They seem to be what I find myself listening to the most.

I like them all.That's sort of how I feel. My 13-year-old daughter is on a Wings kick so that is going pretty much non-stop right now since it's spring break here.

Would I be taking things too literally to nominate?: Abbey Road The White Album Sergeant Peppers Probably. pre-1980: Band on The Run Venus and Mars (prefer listening to this this than Band on the Run, although Band on the Run is a better 'complete' album) Ram/Back to the Egg (Ram a better balanced album but I love listening to the rawness of that egg) solo: Tug of War By a mile and then: Well then it becomes a choice between the best and my favorite. They are different.

Well, Nancy, this is a difficult one to answer.... Flaming Pie will be there.... have a very special fondness for that album..... and it did get me into Abbey Road studios!.... but a great album.... love Beautiful Night..... Chaos and Creation is perhaps one of the best albums he has released, but not one my favourites... I find it too dark, and I'm a simplistic man who likes an album which is a balance of rock-pop-ballads.... At the time I really loved New but in retrospect may have overrated it.... but maybe not... notice my indecision?..... when it comes to "favourites", I still go back to my days of listening to an album on repeat and repeat (and repeat).... and this album is nowhere near his best, but I cannot help but have fondness for.... Press to Play..... at the time I listened to it non-stop, bought it on album, cassette and this new thing called CD..... it is nowhere near his best... but it is one of my "favorites"..... even with the ordinary Pretty Little Head on it....
