Newark, NJ/Prudential Center/Sept 11 & 12 - CONFIRMED
-
We need a new album badly. It seems to be the only thing that shakes up the show anymore. I'm still holding out hope for special guests and Venus and Mars/Rock Show/Jet at Madison Square Garden...but I think it's safe to say we're getting the same set, word for word outside of that. For a while I thought he was conscious of how frequently songs are played in the same markets...obviously that is not a concern.

First bit of the show I'm lightning up, what a tune. And the band rocks. His only offbeat addition in the past 37 tours anyway.

I'm tuning out for a good ten minutes for LMRI and the Hendrix story...the only thing that could liven that shtick up on Friday would be raising Hendrix from the dead. Does he think his concerts just disappear after they happen? These are memories in peoples' minds...they're documented on disc...people come back, especially in a place like New York City. He has told that Hendrix story at ever single NY area appearance for at least the past twelve years if not longer. I don't know. And I know he now says "if you've seen the show before, you'll know..." but it's not just that. GENYC gets a lot of airplay on concert channels. People are VERY familiar with the program, not just the "fans on the run"...

He was... in 2010-2012, which was a live career highlight anyway. When he played 2/3 gigs in the same territory in Europe he very carefully picked the songs as openers and rotation songs he didn't do the gig before or the tour before. When during the stale 2015 sets he brought back the exact song(s) he played the EU tour before (2011-2012), which he finally dropped that tour... I knew he was clueless to this after all.

"...and he was a great guy, really, a humble blo..." 'I've Got A Feeling'.

He will probably do the A/B set list changes that he has been doing this year (Letting Go tonight, Jet tomorrow) but I suspect that's it unless a guest shows up. Springsteen is back in NJ I think so he is probably tonight's rumor. speaking of Bruce, I saw him do a show last year on 9/11 and he did several of his songs from his 9/11 inspired album the Risimg...ones that he typically doesn't play often anymore. It was very powerful. I don't expect Paul to play Freedom, tho.

Weren't you the last LMRI apologist? Jeez... we really need a heavy shake-up. And yeah, the "once in a lifetime crowd" has been served very well in 2002-2005 and 2009-2013 already. I predicated this before he even announced the gigs, but in Europe he didn't do his reputation any favours the last tour. I'm afraid we won't see him back. And it's at last going to happen in the ever forgiving US crowd now as well, the way things are looking. How often can The New York Times review virtually the same show? The lack of buzz and ticket sales says enough. It doesn't have to be like this, but we all know McCartney thinks 40 songs rotated across 5 years is enough.

Piano set. 'My Valentine'. Gem. Obviously dedicated to Nancy, "originally a New Jersey gal".

Is it over yet? Seriously...I love the song to the end of time, and I really don't mind it in the show. It's the Hendrix story I hate. It's stale and it's something that is explicitly supposed to NOT be stale. Most of the shows I've been to since 2015 or so, I've been able to hear someone nearby (other than myself) completing the story for a friend before Paul could. It's really that bad. I'm ready for a bluesy unplugged version of "Let Me Roll It" to replace oh say, "Four Five Seconds" with a smoldering accordion solo from Wix.
