This is just so beautiful... Love it! At the end of the end It's the start of a journey to a much better place And this wasn't bad So a much better place would have to be special No need to be sad On the day that I die, I'd like jokes to be told And stories of old to be rolled out like carpets That children have played on and laid on While listening to stories of old At the end of the end It's the start of a journey to a much better place And a much better place would have to be special No reason to cry On the day that I die, I'd like bells to be rung And songs that were sung to be hung out like blankets That lovers have played on and laid on While listening to songs that were sung At the end of the end It's the start of a journey to a much better place And a much better place would have to be special No reason to cry, no need to be sad At the end of the end...
Love it, perfect lyrics about life and death. A good song for a funeral.

Among Paul's most poetic lyrics: The Swan Is Gliding Above The Ocean, A God Is Riding Upon His Back, How Calm The Water And Bright The Rainbow Fade This One To Black -"This One" '89

I love that song!!
I love the song too, great melody, great lyrics, but this part exactly that's been quoted here - I've always felt it kinda.. out of context.. And a bit like "scrambled eggs" (ok maybe it makes sense in the context of the meditation in the video..)

Too many hungry people losing weight. 40 years after hearing that lyric it still haunts me.

Actually, a later verse from that song had a special meaning for me: Too many people preaching practices Don't let 'em tell you what you want to be Too many people holding back, this is Crazy, and baby, it's not not like me For a totally isolated and confused gay 15-year-old in 1971, those words were literally a lifeline -- along with lots of other Paul/Beatles lyrics that said in one way or another that it's okay to be different (e.g. Fool on the Hill). I believe I survived adolescence because of those songs, along with the message that there is hope even when things look bleak, in songs like Blackbird and Hey Jude. I seriously do not know if I would be alive today without those songs.

The lyrics of About You are so emotional when you think of someone you've lost... Superb You give me power to get out of bed When in the morning I'm feeling dead Living and loving, there's a lot to be said, it's true Gonna say it about you Say it about you Out of the darkness and into the light Straight to the center of everything right Darling, don't worry, the sky will be bright and blue When I say it about you Gonna say it about you, oh yeah I'll say it about you When did you teach me to fly through the air Sooner or later we all will be there I read the headlines and now I can swear it's true And they said it about you Gonna say it about you

Wow! I don't think there's an emoticon on here that really expresses how I wanted to respond to your (touching) post! I wish Paul could truly know how much he has affected many of his fans' lives. I wonder if he realizes this? Sure, he does to a certain extent, but not totally. (do you know what I mean?)

What the hell gives the right To tell me what to do with my life? Especially when you made a mess Of every chance you had of success. Look at you, Just look at you, I said, I'm angry just looking at you. Well, I'm sick and tired of sitting back And listening to all of your clap-trap. (clap-trap) If you could get me take the rap, I guarantee You'd leave me with a backslap. (backslap) Push me to the left, push me to the right, Try to take me out of the way. Even if you knock me off the edge of the world, You're still gonna hear me say: What the hell gives you the right To tell me what to do with my life? Especially when you made a mess Of every chance you have of success. Look at you, Oh, look at you, I said, I'm angry just looking at you. Shouting down again, mahama, shouting down again. Shouting down again, mahama, shouting down again. I can't begin to tell you all the reasons Why you're making me crazy. (crazy) I've got so many answers, like you're stupid, Like you're crooked, like you're lazy. (lazy) Hit me with your left, hit me with your right, Hit me from the top to the toe. Paul doesn't use to be bold, but when he is, he is bolder than John was... (like in Big Boys Bickering, for instance) Kind of a "similar" John's lyrics would be Watching The Wheels, and that's way more diplomatic...
-
True. It's that whole Gemini thing about Paul -- the inner/evil twin. And, incidentally, I'm proud to say that I still have every word memorized.
-
Some people aren't that crazy about the "Off the Ground" album, but a lot of the lyrics on that one, especially, made an impression on me and I found many lines quite poetic and meaningful.

Maybe John's "boldest things" are Give Me Some Truth and Working Class Hero but I still doubt John would have written certain things on Big Boys Bickering, for instance. Actually Paul said that in Off The Ground there were some songs where he had doubts about using certain words and then he thought what would John have said if he was there with him and he imagined John saying "Go ahead, sing that!" so he did. And those words are STILL censored these days in his OWN BOARD, lol. I mean "bastard" on Looking For Changes and "Fucking it up for everyone" on Big Boys Bickering.
