Pure McCartney

Chris Thomas is a good rock producer. I'd love to see him work with Paul again on some tracks.

So, no Girls School??? But Bip Bop is on this??? And Paul wonders why he has a hard time being taken seriously sometimes as a real rock n roller.
While we could argue all day of what should or should not been included. Bip Bop is the only track that really had me gobsmacked. If you wanted something from Wild Life surely the brilliant Some People Never Know or Dear Friend or even Tomorrow should of been included instead. This aside anyway I think the package as a whole is pretty good as a wide ranging cross section of Paul''s work.
I agree. I don't hate Bip Bop, just like other songs on the LP better.
Bip Bop seems to be one of those tracks that Paul just really likes, for reasons that leave most sentient beings shaking our heads.

True!

While I have criticized Bip Bop being included on the other hand I would like to say how pleased I am the brilliant Don't Let It Bring You Down got on the 4 CD version, One of my faves and a worthy choice.

Perhaps there are some sweet sweet memories that go with the song? If you haven't seen it, a very touching family moment...

Paul's biggest problem is that his catalog is diverse. If he were Don McLean, he could release a compilation with American Pie, Vincent and Crying and everyone would be happy. But with 45 years of material, no matter what he does, large patches of his fans will be outraged. When he put out a Wings compilation, people wanted a solo compilation. When he puts out a solo compilation, people don't want those songs. I'd love to see a CD that everyone loves, but that's never going to happen. It's physically impossible. He could not even choose a dozen songs that his fans would approve. Name any Paul song. A third of his fans think it's the greatest song in the world. Another third think it's an embarrassment that should be set on fire. The other third would rather hear [insert absolutely any song]. When he's gone, most of his songs will suddenly be classics. People won't cringe and be embarrassed so much anymore. But for now, Paul has to accept the fact that his fans are going to be disappointed no matter what he does. In a lot of ways, that's high praise for his career.
Paul's biggest problem is he's the worst judge of his own damn music. There are times when it's best to take a back seat and allow for some objectivity. I'd love to know what Mark Lewisohn's song choices would be.
That sums it up perfectly!!! Only he could think Temporary Secretary and Bip Bop might be fun to listen to..... I seriously doubt those helping him make choices picked those songs out for inclusion. They simply had to go along with what he wanted.

I like Bip Bop.

A good number of the songs on "Pure McCartney" are very special to me. As audi indicated, this is a valuable inspiration for serious fans that he's done this. Elicits high hopes that he will, again, next time spotlighting a lot of eclectic more rare fare to really showcase his music's diversity. Maybe he regards kind of softer, smoother numbers like "Lindiana" and "My Little Koala" as not quite as good as his more well known songs, but many would find these very likeable, I think. Have been knocked out by some of his B-sides and never before released work. Perhaps he'll include more of those on another outing "Pure McCartney" leaves you wanting more! Much more

I love Temporary Secretary. Totally fun to listen to. Bip Bop gets a huge groan from me though.

Me too ..Great Bass Line

Very pleased to see Bip Bop and Temporary Secretary included. They showcase the quirkier side of McCartney's music. Like it or not, it's one side of his art. For what it's worth, I love them both. Also happy to see We All Stand Together, for similar reasons. Paul has many musical voices. It is one of his strengths.

I always thought that the employees of MPL were not true McCartney fans. As I have said before how could Paul release Red Rose Speedway without including Live and Let Die, Oh Woman, Oh Why, and The Mess; Venus and Mars without Junior's Farm and Soily; LondonTown without Girl's School and Mull of Kintyre; and Back To The Egg without Goodnight Tonight. And now, Pure McCartney without Soily, Girl's School, Getting Closer, Old Siam Sir, Once Upon a Long Ago, Figure of Eight, Put It There, Take It Away, etc, etc. The idea was brilliant, the execution, not so much.

^ Getting Closer, Old Siam Sir, Once Upon a Long Ago, Figure of Eight, Put It There, Take It Away, etc, etc. We All Stand Together! Great song, they should teach it in schools!

Perhaps a Pure McCartney 2 set ( 2 or 4 discs option) will be released some time in the future. There is obviously no shortage of material especially from the neglected Off The Ground / Flowers In The Dirt albums as people have noted plus some real rarities from the MPL vaults. I have been a little disappointed at what's been dished up on the bonus tracks discs in the deluxe versions in the remaster series.

I could NEVER tell anyone I know I listen to song called My Little Koala.
