When Paul boldly opened with Figure Of Eight....

And so what if that were to happen. Do concerts really have to be that simple-minded? Audiences would respect the fact that Paul McCartney is on the stage, and he's got a wealth of music to share.
McCartney does plenty of Beatle songs to keep audience satisfied and if they don't like a few songs that more hardcore fans would love to hear than that is their problem IMO. Like I have been saying for years, I wish McCartney cared more about people like you and me in the audience that pay money to buy his solo work recordings.

Well, I attended two shows at MSG and remember that Figure of 8 and Rough Ride didn't go over that well at all. I love Flowers In The Dirt, but at the time of the concert the album was pretty much out of the top 50 and none of it was being played on NY radio. Put It There got a great response, but half the crowd went for a beer during We Got Married.

Hopefully the NEW songs will get a better response from the audiences at his upcoming concerts.

Opening songs: 1976: Venus and Mars/Rock Show - WINGS 1979: Got To Get You Into My Life - BEATLES 1989: Figure Of Eight - McCARTNEY 1993: Drive My Car - BEATLES 2002: Hello Goodbye - BEATLES 2004: Jet - WINGS 2005: Magical Mystery Tour - BEATLES 2009: Jet - WINGS 2009: Drive My Car - BEATLES 2010: Venus and Mars/Rock Show - WINGS 2011: Hello Goodbye - BEATLES 2011: Magical Mystery Tour - BEATLES 2012: Hello Goodbye - BEATLES 2012: Magical Mystery Tour - BEATLES 2013: Eight Days A Week - BEATLES I know he opened with Hippy Hippy Shake for a few shows around 2004, I think. Still, Paul opens with a Beatle song almost twice as much as a solo song. Percentages change if you include early Wings tours.

I really wish he would open a concert with SAVE US. It's such great opening song, he should be more confident of his recent work. In fact, this is a challenge. I dare you, Paul!

I agree, that would be very cool. And a great opener!

He also opened with "Hippy Hippy Shake" when he played in Liverpool in '08. Let's also not forget the opening songs he did during the few tours he did pre-'76: Wings University Tour, 1972- Lucille Wings Over Europe Tour, 1972- Bip Bop Wings 1973 UK Tour- Soily

Nicely compiled list! The '79 opener is still one of my favorites with that horn intro. I also liked when Paul opened with "Coming Up", at the iTunes Festival in 2007. Always a favorite of mine!

Back when Paul actually used real horns in concert! I know it'll never happen, but I would love it if Paul used a horn section again...

It really would. It's catchy, punchy and fairly quick. Even the audience members who don't recognize it (a majority, sadly) would probably get in the spirit. Do it, Paul!

It is really likeable on first hearing! Maybe Paul or his people will read this and he will take the hint.

You can't beat the real thing. I love the bagpipes on "Mull of Kintyre" live, the real strings for special versions of "Yesterday", or the Beatles Grammy Reunion last month when "Sgt. Pepper" had real horns. Maybe Paul sees that live brass section as an element of Wings only.

Yes, and follow it up with JET. That would be a nice 1/2

I'm not so sure Paul can manage "Jet" vocally. That Jimmy Kimmel performance was not his best.

Yes, I keep hoping that too, if only for maybe a section of the show. I'm not too optimistic, though. And thanks, R Martinez, for that list of openers. That was... eye-opening!

I was at the first MSG show and while they crowd did not go crazy after "Figure of Eight" I still give McCartney credit for doing it. As he said at that time, he wanted to show he was a relevant artist and open with something new. I think that was important to do at that time because he had not played live in the US in 13 years.

I agree. Paul said that opening with "I Saw Her Standing There" (the originally planned opener) would've displayed a lack of pride in the new material.
