People on Consol Energy Center's facebook page are saying they heard Bruce Springsteen is in the rumormill.. I guess WDVE (Pittsburgh Classic Rock station) was saying that... This is getting to be so frustrating. Bruce comes to Pittsburgh all the time, so he wouldn't be THAT big of a deal. We need a fresh face to the Pittsburgh concert scene.. like Paul!!
Won't be Bruce, you can guarantee that one. He was asked to be the first artist to open up the new Giants/Jets stadium, which is in New Jersey and he turned it down saying he isn't on tour and didn't want to do it. If he turns down his own hometown offer, then there is just no way he will be special to Pittsburgh. Now Pearl Jam is a good suggestion as someone said because they announced a mini tour and skipped Pittsburgh again and they never skip Pittsburgh, but I think this show being announced on Monday isn't the opener of the new arena. I think if it was they would say something along the lines "big huge announcement on concert opening the new arena".
Good points Matt. After thinking about what you said, I can see the promotors throwing out a lot of shows in September to put Pittsburgh on the concert map to possibly attract that big opening event they are looking for. It's also a great way to keep everyone's suspense.. then they will probably announce the huge opening event after the hype has settled a bit. Any of these names are pretty big anyway. Rush, Waters, Pearl Jam.. Good variety and major talent. I'm starting to think we won't hear anything about the opening event for a while. If it is Paul, he tends to wait for the last minute anyway. And if they are still trying to lock a deal with Paul, getting these other big names in here is a great way to lure him in and show him where the hot concert spot of the moment is at!
Monday's announcement is looking like another Lady Gaga show because it sold out in 2 minutes. Someone told me her schedule is open for another Pittsburgh show.
Yep.. I checked on her site and Sept 6th was left open in her tour itinerary. Now.. if we get Paul here.. I'm certain there would be 2 dates. Last time he was at the Civic Arena in 1990 he did 2 shows here also!
It definitely should work that way.

So they're announcing another concert on Monday?! PLEASE LET IT BE PAUL! I think it would make sense, Paul is at a break in his tour right now so I could see more dates announced for later in the year now if he is planning on doing that...although that doesn't mean that the announcement on Monday is him..I guess we'll just have to wait and see....! I hope it is!

Well, we'll find out something tomorrow. Hope it's that Paul will be opening!

That would be great!! I want that to happen so the suspense winds down already! lol...But I don't think they are announcing the opening act tomorrow (I really think it's just going to be another Gaga concert). I'm still going to be nervous and checking the updates at work tomorrow afternoon pretty much nonstop..No wonder my coworkers think I'm crazy!

I hope its Paul too...but my guess would be Roger Waters, since he is releasing the details to his tour the same day...just a guess. Of course I hope it is Paul announcement! But that could still happen soon, even if its not Monday.. But I thinking...even if he doesn't open the arena...if he really is planning to do more U.S. dates later in the year, you would think Consol Energy Center would be a top choice to go to...whether he'd be opening it or not...since it would still be new and he hasn't been in Pittsburgh in a while. I don't know...but I really hope a McCartney concert is in the works here!

Looks like it is Roger Waters.. Consol Energy Center on September 26th.... http://tour.rogerwaters.com/tour/
-
I called that one.

So Roger is opening the center? Wait, nevermind, he is playing the 26th, Lady Gaga the 6th, so he wouldn't be opening. There is still hope!

Yeah he is not opening it...he is just probably the announcement that is expected today. Paul would be my guess in opening the arena, but thats just a guess. I hope it becomes reality!

Plus there's still the Melon Arena... And I only say that because of this:
Don't know if we can trust that, though :. -

Well thats interesting. I'll believe it when I hear it from a credible source....but I hope she is right! But thinking about it...isn't Mellon Arena supposedly one of the reasons why Paul hasn't played in Pittsburgh in a while?!

Her "tweets" have got to be totally false. No one is playing the Mellon Arena. Paul never came back because he hated that place. She obviously has it confused with the new arena.

Yeah that is what I was thinking with the earlier post. Either its completely untrue or she is mixing up Mellon Arena with CEC. As I said, I'll believe it when I hear it from a credible source.

The rumor I heard this weekend (and I personally do not believe a word of it) was the Springsteen was going to do the final concert at Mellon Arena and then go next door and open up the Consol Energy Center. It would be nice if Paul did that, but I don't think anyone is going to want to play at crappy old Mellon Arena when there is a brand new arena with all of the amenities now.

I have such a hard time believing that, because Bruce isn't on tour and was asked to open the new Giants/Jets stadium and he told them no because he wasn't on tour. I just don't see Bruce being extra special to Pittsburgh when he turned down his own hometown.

Altho Springsteen does like the older arenas (like the Spectrum in Philly), he is not touring this year and there are no rumours in the Springsteen fan base about him doing so yet, either, so I also don't believe that rumour. Paul does like to be the first one to play new venues, tho, so....

Isn't the Waters' show to late to be the "big opening act", isn't his show after Lady Gaga's, and they've confirmed she isn't the marquee act.

Okay I'm still not really believing the big Springsteen thing, but almost every local radio station in Pittsburgh has reported this is going to happen and they really believe it. I don't know. I know Springsteen said he wasn't touring, but maybe money does go a very long way and they are paying him a ton to do this.
