Isn't the Waters' show to late to be the "big opening act", isn't his show after Lady Gaga's, and they've confirmed she isn't the marquee act.
It's not the opening act.

Her "tweets" have got to be totally false. No one is playing the Mellon Arena. Paul never came back because he hated that place. She obviously has it confused with the new arena.
Yeah that is what I was thinking with the earlier post. Either its completely untrue or she is mixing up Mellon Arena with CEC. As I said, I'll believe it when I hear it from a credible source.
The rumor I heard this weekend (and I personally do not believe a word of it) was the Springsteen was going to do the final concert at Mellon Arena and then go next door and open up the Consol Energy Center. It would be nice if Paul did that, but I don't think anyone is going to want to play at crappy old Mellon Arena when there is a brand new arena with all of the amenities now.
Okay I'm still not really believing the big Springsteen thing, but almost every local radio station in Pittsburgh has reported this is going to happen and they really believe it. I don't know. I know Springsteen said he wasn't touring, but maybe money does go a very long way and they are paying him a ton to do this.
I don't think it's going to be Springsteen either.. He just got done with a huge world tour. I think the radio stations are mentioning him because he always comes to Pittsburgh, and he's an easy assumption. But the stations need to do their homework.. Like you said, he wouldn't even accept the offer to open the stadium in his home of New Jersey. As for the last show at the Mellon Arena.. I believe right now, James Taylor and Carole King are the last on the current schedule (quite a rocker, huh? :lol Nothing is set for July there. I just think the idea of Springsteen closing the Mellon Arena, then going across the street to open the CEC is kind of lame.. I think it would be one or the other. So I hope the radio stations are wrong! I want Paul!

Only way I see Bruce doing this is if his buddy and Pittsburgh local Joe Grusheky pulls the strings a bit and gets him to come here. Because Joe is basically his best friend. I do believe they will have some sort of farewell to the Mellon Arena it's definitely not going to be the James Taylor/Carole King show. Just way too mellow to close out a historic venue.

Even if Paul doesn't open up the new arena, there is still a huge chance would play PNC Park or Heinz Field. PNC Park is one of the nicest stadiums in MLB and Heinz Field needs a big concert there this year since the usual Kenny Chesney isn't doing a tour this summer.

Very true. I think I'd actually prefer to see Paul at one of the stadiums over CEC. PNC Park is amazing..although, I heard the sound for concerts isn't that great there because it bounces off the river. But the pictures would be amazing with the Pittsburgh skyline in the background! Heinz Field would be awesome too. That's a great concert venue, and with a big name like McCartney possibly coming to Pittsburgh, there needs to be many many tickets available! We'll just have to wait it out till Paul announces something new....ugh!

The waiting is horrible. It's driving me nuts, but just the thought of Paul possibly coming is awesome. An announcement is something to look forward too at least.

Good news guys. While this isn't about Pittsburgh, it does show a glimpse of hope for more U.S. dates...which is better than hearing about more dates in another part of the world if we want him in Pittsburgh! http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-34954-Paul-McCartney-Examiner~y2010m4d13-Exclusive-Discussions-underway-for-more-Paul-McCartney-concert-dates Hope to see more details pan on out this!

Yeah, I don't really trust much of what is wrote on Beatles Examiner, I guess I still kind of have a grudge on the guy slipping in and ahead of those of us in Atlanta who camped out and stayed in line for hours on end.

That is good news! I think most rumors and speculation has him coming back to the U.S. this summer after those European dates...so we'll see.

He was one of the guys who tried to slip ahead of us?

Yeah, I read his review of Atlanta and he said while he was inside around the talking outdoor bathroom he saw a bunch of people come in with linked arms and just joined.

So that's just a very smart guy . But serious now, it wasn't the writer of Beatles Examiner, but a fan who made a report of this concert. http://www.examiner.com/x-2082-Beatles-Examiner~y2009m8d17-Paul-McCartney-Atlanta-concert-report--You-are-there-1

Thanks for clearing that up, wasn't sure. And yes, I would have done the same thing.
-
^ That makes sense, I didn't think the Beatles Examiner would do that. But still... we started that riot for a reason!

You're correct. It was a fan, not me. I didn't go to the Atlanta show. Thanks for clearing that up.

Bumping to see if anyone has any news.........
Ok...take this with a grain of salt...but yesterday, on Consol Energy Center's facebook they posted an article about the new arena and how it is attracting acts. Then people replied with who they want to come there, and multiple people mentioned Paul McCartney. Somebody posted, "I'm hearing a Paul McCartney show will be opening up the new arena on 8/28. Just waiting for it to become official." Then I made a comment, asking where this person heard that info from...and minutes later both posts were deleted from their page.....I was wondering why those would be deleted, unless its true and they don't want it leaking?...but this was just from somebody on Facebook, and they never did reply on where they got the info from...so take it for what its worth. But it would be nice if an announcement was made soon! I still have a good feeling about this one...reportedly Paul is in discussions for adding more dates, I'm hoping this is one of them!

And Aug. 28 is a Saturday.
The Consol Energy Center won't open until late August at the earliest, but it's already a hit with the concert-going crowd. Just as 'N Sync christened Heinz Field -- much to the dismay of hard-core Steelers fans -- the new Penguins arena likely will open with a hot musical act. The first show announced for the new building, Lady Gaga on Sept. 5, sold out within minutes. The same pattern is expected next month when tickets go on sale for a 30th-anniversary performance of "The Wall" by onetime Pink Floyd mastermind Roger Waters. <snip> In the meantime, more concert announcements, including a potential opening show before Lady Gaga's appearance, are on the way, and SMG expects the upward trend to go beyond the honeymoon period.

No problem. I was debating whether or not to post it yesterday, since it really isn't from a credible source. But after reading somebody wanting to know if anybody heard anything, I couldn't resist...haha. I hope its true...I don't know if this person has a connection with somebody working for Consol Energy Center or if they just made it up or what lol. But hopefully its true.
