KOTB charting

That is pretty cool. So Paul's obviously had #1's in Pop/Rock, what other catagories? Didn;t Sally G do some damage on the country charts? and was Ocean Kingdom or any of his classical work #1 on classical charts? He's done amazing in all genre's really. sales volumes are down but the game is still played how the game is played; a #1 is a #1. I just don't personally happen to be flipping out these days listening to jazz arrangements of oddball standards I do give props to Paul for how that album was done though. very cool.
Standing Stone and Ocean Kingdom were both No 1 on the Classical Chart. I think the Liverpool Oratorio was also.
I believe it. its all part of the reason I have so high regard for Paul McCartney. He's a music genius. The highest level of work in all genres. I was taking my kids to swimming lessons earlier and noticed on my iPhone (checking this forum for a moment as I waited for them) and there was a thread I wanted to respond in, having to do with the KOTB DVD release, and Boycie voicing his opinion of basically, who cares.. was that thread deleated obviously??? why, I thought it was getting ready to be a good discussion. I saw Michelley making some good points, as she always does. I thought her take was interesting, that KOTB is Paul's current period. and she's right, and he's doing it his way. I do think there is a lot of value in documenting the project, why not? Paul may not have a whole lot of time left, sad but true. and though I may not be the biggest fan of the album, I really respect how he approached it, the songs he chose to do, and the thought and effort that went into it. Paul's got a keen keen ear for music and that comes through on that album. I was hard on it the other day somewhere saying that the more I hear it the less I like it, and thats sort of true. but doesn't mean its not a cool project. and fact is, for a project like that, I think it lends itself quite well to a live, low key performance. I see nothing wrong with a DVD release, and think its a cool documentation of 'late period Paul' doing the songs that he personally loved so much as a very young kid. Can;t imagine why that thread would have been deleted.. the mods need to lighten up, I miss a lot of threads I feel like because they get deleted before I get a chance to get into them... Plus I'm still upset my Hi Hi Hi thread got deleted back a couple years ago for the record

Hi kapoo, The thread created by BOYCIE was not deleted, it was merged into an already existing topic where members are discussing the Kisses project and DVD release. That thread may be found here: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=84660 The discussion beginning with BOYCIE's opinion on the release begins here: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=2618207#2618207 As to the Hi Hi Hi thread, I was not a moderator then, so I do not know the particulars on that one!

Ah HA! Thanks for the direction Triplets! My faith in the Mods is restored love to you all

Michelley:
Besides being No. 1 on the Jazz Album, KOTB is also No. 102 on the main Billboard 200 Chart -- seven months after its release. Yes, we all know CD sales are in the toilet but for KOTB to still be on the Billboard main chart at all at this point is pretty damn good. (And in the CD-sales-really-are-in-the-toilet Department, I noticed that Bob Dylan's new album debuted at No. 3 in the UK last week but it only sold a measly 36,000 copies. In the US, Dylan's album also debuted at No. 3 and only sold 110,000 copies. Dang, if Dylan can't move more albums than that with the good reviews he always gets, then it's an up hill battle for Paul's next pop album.)
I completely agree with your first statement. As to Paul's next album, I'm actually feeling very optimistic about it. Think about it, if Paul was able to crack #5 in the US charts with a standards album (jazz at that!), then I feel pretty confident that a proper polished pop studio album with the best of what he's been working on over the last five years can easily match Dylan or even, I dare say, make #1! Perhaps I'm over estimating here, but I believe it is in the realm of possibility that he could make it to #2... (To go with a more conservative estimate ) Anyway, this is pleasantly surprising news about KOTB's charting...

For the third week in a row, KOTB is No. 1 on the Billboard Jazz Chart. And it is now at No. 132 on the main Billboard 200 chart (down from No. 105 last week). Amazing how much of a boost the record got from that PBS special.

i used to have a dog who got so excited about absolutely nothing bless him..when the postman rang the door bell he used to wet the carpet [that sort of thing]....anyway the latter part of this thread reminds me of him.

It's always so much fun to be around people who only see the worst in everything. Whether you like it or not, for Paul's record to still be on the Billboard 200 chart seven months after its release is GOOD news. It's too bad you can't set aside your hostility for a second to recognize that.

sorry you take it that way 'michelley'....however i feel that the whole 'kisses' project has done way more damage than good...of course many [like you] dont see it that way at all.....but im afraid in my opinion it has been a complete disaster. its also very easy to band around chart positions especially a week or so after a big tv airing...bottom line is that it has sold nothing much at all..infact compared to the likes of 'rod stewart' and 'robbie williams' efforts of a similar ilk it has been completely left on the shelf......however i appreciate your high opinion of the project and respectfully dissagree on almost every level....thats all

It doesn't bother me that you don't like the album. There are plenty of Paul's albums that I don't like. What bothered me was your patronizing attack of my opinion. Seriously? I can't praise an album I think is well done and deserves the critical respect it earned (in jazz circles) without being compared to your simple-minded dog? KOTB has been on the main Billboard 200 chart for 3 weeks. I don't see anything negative in posting that. I'm glad the album has been getting renewed attention. And I don't think I deserved to be slammed for that.

And I thought the continued "John vs. Paul" debates on YouTube were asinine...

If you're talking about Stuart Bell, you have a point.

I throw zingers at Stuart Bell's blogs, but it's all in humor. He has a job to do, and he does it well -- but the incessant fawning in his articles often reminds me of the interview segments of The Space Within US DVD.

I'd rather his blogs didn't exist because they'll never be written with any objectivity. Sycophancy is never going to help anybody in any walk of life really. :

Synchophancy? Wasn't that the final Police album? I do enjoy reading the activity that Paul's been up to but objectivity ,sadly, isn't part of the job description. If Paul drank a glass of water it would be described in glowing terms.

If you'd told me in Mexico that our boss was gonna drink a glass of water better, i would have laughed at you, but after seeing him drink English tap water from the queens own glass,, i stood corrected, and my mobile never stopped and it was trending on twitter faster than anything, EVER

FYI, I just was scrolling through the Billboard 200 list for 2012. It's a list of the top-selling albums for the year. First it was kinda depressing because the highest-ranking album by a rock legend in 2012 was Springsteen's Wrecking Ball at No. 50. That's it: After a year of good reviews for his album, and high-profile performances, all the Boss managed was 50th on the list of best-selling albums for the year. In short: People should seriously lower their expectations for the sales potential of Paul's next album. The public is just not buying albums by the old guys in high numbers. On the more positive front, KOTB was No. 132 (!!!!) on the Billboard 200 chart for 2012. That is flat out AMAZING for a quiet jazzy album that got mixed reviews from Paul's own fan base. KOTB even ranked higher on the sales chart than Bob Dylan's new album, The Tempest, which got mostly positive reviews but only managed to reach No. 137 for the year. So congrats Paul! Here's the list of Billboard's year-end charts: http://www.billboard.com/charts-year-end#/charts-year-end And here's the Billboard 200 for 2012 if you want to check out KOTB's ranking yourself: http://www.billboard.com/charts-year-end#/charts-year-end/the-billboard-200?year=2012&begin=1&order=position

I'm more optimistic about the next album than I've been for all of Paul's albums since Flowers... combined! I really think it's going to be a blitz of a success. A great hunch I've got. I think we're going to see his most strategic promotional campaign ever, and it's going to work very well for him.

Where'd you get the crystal ball, Audi? Does it come with a guarantee?
