I think it would definitely help if he cut his show down to 2 or 2 1/2 hours. Change the setlist to reflect songs he sings better, eg bring back Letting Go and he will be fine. The rockers and his acoustic set can be really good.
Agreed. I don't want him to quit touring until he feels he's ready to, but I also don't want him straining to hit notes he might not be able to anymore, either.
Yeah, I don't want him to stop doing something he loves but atleast make the setlist reflect what he can do best these days. His piano ballads are the ones he struggles most with eg TLAWR, Let it Be, Maybe I'm Amazed.
I seriously don't know how I could agree more with this post. TLAWR is one that has been pretty painful to sit through during concerts, at least for me. I've seem Paul 18 times in 11 years, and some night Maybe I'm Amazed has sounded good, other nights I've winced. I think it's time that this one goes the way of the dinosaur, at least in relation to Paul's setlist. He would benefit from doing a realistic re-evaluation of the setlist for any upcoming concerts he's planning. I'm looking forward to seeing him live again, and soon, but I would also love for him to sing songs to their fullest.
Yeah, more great points and agree with them all The benefit of dropping songs like this aswell and adding lesser known songs would reflect how good his solo/wings cannon is. I mean outside The Beatles joe public knows MIA, BOTR, Jet, L&LD. Apart from that I imagine not alot is known.
MAYBE the songs he has written in the last few decades may be better suited to his more adult voice. I'd love to hear so many more of his current songs in the setlist...except stuff from KOTB.

I think Long and Winding Road and Let it Be, are on that list of "must-play" songs for him...I think key changes are more realistic changes than dropping them from the set.

I love Waterfalls, best song on a very weak album .........but if others don't thats up to them. I can't stand Calico Skies, worst song on a fantastic album, but I know most people on here love it.
Oh no! And here I LOVE Calico Skies! Oh well, that's why we're on a discussion board. It's a song that I adore, but I can respect your right to not like it, and still like you as a person. Cheers!
I'm not the only one that's split down the middle!

I wouldn't say it hasn't happened...in that same wave, we get V&M, 1985, Bluebird for a little while...and then more recently Junior's Farm! We just need MORE!

ok...who likes waterfalls? i never really did.
LOVE IT. A corker on a corking album IMO. Massive Macca II fan!
Me too. Love the whole album and the bonus tracks, especially Check My Machine and Secret Friend. I think we're in the minority here, though. Funny how little respect this album gets on this board and yet I've noticed that in young circles in the UK, McCartney II is one of the few albums that Paul gets a lot of respect for. I guess folks here just don't like electronic music much. I'm glad that Paul stuck his toe in the genre and I really wish he'd done more of this. I wish he'd made a McCartney III and IV in the 80s and 90s. Not just the Fireman ambiant, instrumental stuff. As for Waterfalls, I love the melody and it had the potential to be a classic. But it doesn't fit that well on McCartney II. It's a traditional song that would have been better had he spent more time on the lyrics. I like it but I sort of view it as a missed opportunity. I think he should have worked on it more and put it on Tug of War. And instead of Waterfalls, Check My Machine or Secret Friend should have been on McCartney II. They fit better with the album.
Yeah Michelley, think we are the Macca II fanatics on this site. And, btw, theres not a lot more I can add to your post as I agree with everything you have said Waterfalls, as much as I love it, had far more potential with more attention. And it certainly feels a bit like the odd one out on Macca II. Check My Machine would have fitted better, like you say. I would love, atleast a Macca III, before he stops.

Very true. Songs like "Letting Go", while lesser known, worked really well a few years ago during his tour. It suited his voice well, and I swear to you the at the shows I saw him singing this at, half the audience was thrilled to hear it and sing along to it! I was hoping this victory would encourage Paul to sing more Wings songs...sadly, though, this hasn't happened...

I'd like for "My Valentine" to stay...it works well in the live environment, and it suits his voice at the piano set.

McCartney III! Hadn't even thought of that possibility. I'm actually getting goosebumps thinking about it!

While I'm not a KOTB fan, I'd prefer that one than some of the older Beatles songs that he's trying to sing in their original key. Usually I sing along to every song while he's singing them, and it's only in bootleg form that I realize how bad a particular song may have sounded live. Luckily I sing so off-key that it's embarrassing, so I probably keep the rows near me in ignorance if Paul hits a wrong note.
Oh no! I like to sing the harmony parts and see who notices.

I'd like to hear 4 or 5 songs from KOTB sprinkled throughout a new set list at a Paul show. It continues to be a surprising little gem of an album. And while the Ram reissue is no longer in the top 200, I would like to point out that KOTB was No. 9 this week on the Billboard Jazz Chart. (Sits back, takes out popcorn, waits for a new round of feuding to break out.)

Ah! We finally have found the source of all of the fights around here lately! Ready to have your mind blown? I will up the ante to two KOTB songs, one original written by Paul (take your pick, as they're both good), and one cover (pick "Inch Worm" and I swear I will hunt you down and do damage to your car! ). How about that for being accommodating?
I'd take My Valentine from the piano, and The Glory of Love...on a stool, center stage!

Compromise is a lovely thing. And how about this: You get to pick which additional KOTB song he covers.

grrr ok...BUT he has to drop a bunch of Beatles songs & add more recent stuff. Where was that setlist wix made up of 6 from each decade? Wasn't to bad. few tweeks needed...

Totally agree, Oobu, I just also agree that Paul wouldn't hurt the show by adding in some KOTB songs, as well, as they are his most recent work, and he needs to remember to promote the latest album.
