The "Ram" Remaster Thread

Copy and pasted from their forum - . A Love for you exists in 16 different mixes in Paul sound archive, plus 2 demos ( 1970, and more curiously 1972??? ). Hey didle exists in 12 different mixes, and Waterspout in 10 different mixes, including a great 1986 version full of unheard overdubbs . An unknown unreleased song recorded in a day , late 1986, called " Funkittycat " COULD be the song that Richard Niles was lucky to see created, and has just be rediscovered by the HP team, with 2 different versions, one crazy with animal screaming, and one very dry. The song is mainly instrumental but is finishing with 2 verses and a great unique refrain. Some other unknown songs have just been rediscovered from 1985 to 1988. Paul was used to make up a song on a day. Other great stuff rediscovred is the complete incidental music for Give my regards and Rupert, with a lot of minutes unused in the film, like 2 different instrumental for " No more lonely nights ( ballad ). One is in parts in the film ( country version ), another unreleased is classical. The same for not such a bad boy, with 3 different versions, 2 instrumentals and one great vocal version on piano . The original Demo made in France in 78 of " Baby's request " has been rediscoverd too. On the same tape, there is a demo of so glad to see you here, and another demo of angry ( recorded 7 years after ????, with different lyrics , but same riff, and an unknow embryoic song called " French Lips " . The premium members will have, at last, some surprises around RAM rerelease, in terms of photos AND music .............But, it's still a possibility......with MPL, everything can change at any time ..... . Venus and Mars , Speed of Sound ,Wings Over America and Rock Show dvd are planned to be released at the same time around Christmas, and the new pop album in 2013 ( Paul seems not to be very happy about the tracks already recorded with Dave Grohl, Mark Ronson & Ethan Johns. It lacks of a real homogeneity, 14 tracks are already finished, but some vocals must be redone. Some new studio sessions are planned in June in London, with another famous unknown producer . 24 tracks have been recorded properly in 2011 for Kisses, with One other never heard original, My Valentine & The Glory of love exist in 2 very different versions, and 20 songs have been recorded as demos in March 2010 at Hogg Hill, including another new unknown original, which has been recorded since with Mark Ronson. This song has been previously recorded with Geoff Emerick in 2009 Gilles Martin has asked Paul to overlook the process of revisiting his demos and alternate takes, as he did with George, but Paul has still not say yes or no

Hi everyone! My first post even though I've been reading here for a long time (for a much longer time than when I signed up at the board). I'm really excited about the whole RAM deluxe thing . Just of curiosity I wonder, is there anyone in the UK who has ordered just the deluxe box from Topspin and what did the postage costs end up at for you? I was just about to order from topspin as it is the cheapest/least expensive place to get it. I live in Sweden and I understand that postage and shipping costs will be more to get it here but I didn't think that it would be this much, £30 for postage and shipping! At amazon and hmv on the other hand it is about 2 pounds for that. Well, I suppose I'll have to get from some site here for £85.
I had to pay the same, I live in Denmark..

That info was posted by someone who, I am lead to believe, is acquainted with someone VERY close to Macca. He's posted a lot of info, some of which has happened, some of which hasn't. I guess it depends how sceptical you are generally as to whether you believe his info to be genuine or made up.

Fingers crossed that its genuine.

Good review in The Word this month from John Harris and a whole page too, at last some decent coverage for a change. He doesn't over praise the album, he doesn't like Eat At Home, Smile Away and half of Uncle Albert/ Admiral Halsey that much, but he loves Too Many People, Dear Boy, Ram On, Monkberry Moon Delight and especially The Back Seat Of My Car so it's a fairly balanced appraisal.

That's great to hear. What didn't the reviewer like about Eat at Home? I'm curious.

He thought Eat At Home and Smile Away were silly and flimsy.

Seriously. I already think the reviewer is an idiot Look forward to hearing the reviews of this re-issue, and the sound in particular. post the different crap you hear people! I have no desire to own any of the crap they are giving away in this re-issue, sorry to rain on the re-issue parade. and sorry for the term crap being applied, and being applied twice already! I'm sure people will take plenty of interest in the package. But I'm here to (crash thunder) rain on the parade!! the only re-issue I have my eye on is the WOA vinyl set. done deal already on that little purchase. I wonder if they'll tie in a copy of Rock Show, given only with the vinyl? they'd probably sell a shit load of vinyl how rude (studio) would that be to people not wanting any part of vinyl! that would be Paul getting old school vinyl gangsta on us RAM OOOOAAHHHHHHHHHNN

I think the reviewer just didn't understand what each song was about. Or he ignored that either song had a deeper meaning, however playful the tune was in style. I think a lot of critics do that to Paul: Assume that a playful tune doesn't have a deeper/larger meaning.

Kapoo, I can't tell from your post why you think the reviewer is an "idiot" and I can't quite tell if you like Ram or not. As for the box set: Are you saying you're only interested in the music, and don't want any of the fan goodies (like photos etc.) that Paul is throwing in for those of us who both enjoy his songs AND like to admire Macca's fine form. Funny, I feel almost totally opposite about WOA. I have never really been a fan of "live" albums. I don't see the attraction.

Barb thanks for all the news over on the Hoffman board. A little sad Paul's not happy with the new album, hopefully it will come through ok though. Only a week or so till we all get RAM fever!!

Yes yes that last post did turn out a little confusing! Lol. Well to clarify, I think the reviewer is an idiot cause he doesn't like Eat At Home!! But only a 'musical idiot'. And yes of course I love Ram! I was just rambling calling things crap. Funny though, for me Ram is one album that totally does not need remastering, the original was perfect. It's an old school studio rock album. WOA on the other hand can be cleaned up and perhaps remixed to equalize some of the sounds I think. That's why I'm interested in WOA. I think it could be improved. Yeah I have very little interest in all the other goodies outside of the music. But I'm in the minority, especially among the ladies
