WixRocks!:
I finally got EVERYTHING! VERY pleased with The Deluxe Box. However, they should have just left out that Ocean View book...probably would've brought the price closer to $100. Vinyl is superb as is Rockshow, but I am experiencing that "disappearing bass" issue like many others. I bought all of these at my local record store, and while it cost $25 more in the end, I was very happy to support them over Amazon.
Wix, I read somewhere one of the books in the WOA deluxe edition has a photo of the stage at each venue. Is that true?
Yes that is very true a picture a fold out picture is in the main book of the venues.
Missed that I guess! Will have to go back and look!
-
I'm looking at the book right now, and there are only five venues that have fold-out photos of them: Fort Worth, TX; Richfield, OH; New York City, NY; Denver, CO; and Seattle, WA. There were a total of twenty venues on the US tour.

That's pretty cool! I went to the Denver show, so it may be worth getting just for that!

I've read all four (!) of the books in the package. There was a lot more to read than I expected! Very well-written account of the tour, with new quotes from Paul and Denny, as well as a few of the brass players and others. Goes a bit into the history of Wings, and Paul's long absence from touring at that point. A good bit about Humphrey Ocean, the sketch artist who traveled with them, and whose work fills one full book in the package. He also has a very charming tour diary, a young Brit's-eye view of his first visit to America and the unglamorous underbelly of a rock tour. The main book mentions that Paul ran into Ocean again in 2004, where he saw a photo that Ocean took of a black chair, which became the cover art for Memory Almost Full.

Michelley:
One of the best parts of looking through all the books in the deluxe set is what a fascinating study it is of the late 70s -- the fashion, the hair, the architectural design of stadiums, the way the shows were promoted (signs outside the arenas would advertise "WINGS" but also list all 5 names of the band members on the sign). Bell bottom jeans everywhere on men and women. Men with some of the oddest hair styles I've ever seen. Howie Casey had some seriously wild hair. People just looked so much more ... interesting back then. Less conformity. The WoA set is quite the period piece. Far more so than the Ram Deluxe Set. In Ram, Paul, with his beard and fair isle sweaters and rubber boots came across as oddly relevant in 2013 -- since beards have been quite the trend lately. The following image from Ram, after all, makes Paul look like the total hipster in 2013: Beard? Check. Camera? Check. Coffee? Check? Fair Isle sweater? Check. But the images from WOA look anything BUT current. Satin trousers. Mullets. Bell bottom jeans on men!!! So different from today.
Haha, absolutely, yes! I know I'm late to this conversation, but wow, those fashions!

Must have been great to be there! I was not quite twelve and there was no chance that I would get to go to a concert. The venue photos are all black-and-white, and each one is a shot taken from the back of the arena facing the stage, empty of people.

Very cool, thanks! I will get this set. I was twelve when I went, was lucky my older sister in Denver got tickets and took me, so I had an adult accompany me! My older brother went too, I am blessed with my siblings and grateful to them. Amazing experience!

I just watched "Wings Over The World," which I hadn't seen since they showed it on TV in 1979 (I did record it on audio cassette at the time, positioned in front of the TV). As others have noted, it is in mono (not unexpected, since there was no stereo TV then), but the fact that it's sped up is pretty strange. I was struck by the one guy interviewing Paul who asked if Paul, at age 33, might possibly be too old to be playing rock and roll. So Paul has been dealing with this question for almost forty years now, more than half his life!

I bought a WOA deluxe edition for $89!!! The case has a damaged corner or something, but I am glad to get it at that price. Should be here next week!

I heard over the summer months that Paul & company were working on the re-release of the CD & DVD. He's going to be adding addtional songs that weren't on the original release. It's supposed to be released in 2013. The last time I heard an update was back in July. Has anyone heard about the progress of this project? CHEERS! Mighty Mike USA
I saw Wings over America on tv in UK last night. Lovely to see Linda, and Mary and Stella as kids. Come on Paulie lets see some sparkels in your clothes again. Before it was a concert at Maida Vale. He wore a plain white shirt I have adored Paul since 1963 I was 8 then. I have supported and follwed him throughout

Its funny looking back 37 years and seeing how much fashion has changed in both clothing and looks. Then again, the fashion had changed quite abit in 1976 when compared to 37 years earlier......in 1939 and the outbreak of WW2.

Some of the clothing comes back but it is always a little different so that you can't wear the original stuff. Bell bottoms, platform shoes, even mullets.

Yes, he was the cat in satin trousers!

I've picked up all of the Deluxe Editions of the various Macca albums that have been released so far except McCartney II--will probably pick this one up in the future. The RAM set is extremely well done, but the WOA limited edition is over the top in terms of the attention to deatil that went into it. It comes complete with reproduction concert tickets to a number of the venues placed in glasine envelopes mounted on pages in the binder, concert programs, backstage passes and several wonderful books on all aspects of the concert. It's an expensive set, but well worth the price! I also picked up the Blu-Ray Rockshow DVD which combined with the Deluxe set is a fairly comprehensive archive of the tour. Anyone else pick up the WOA Deluxe Edition?

I bought mine last year & it's very good. I don't normally buy CD's anymore. However I have been purchasing Paul's reissues. I haven't been disappointed w/ any of them.

Where to begin..... Last year when this set was released I could not justify buying the Deluxe set. (Saving for the Wedding in Sept of that year). Best Buy eased my pain by selling the 2cd set with the Bonus Cow Palace disc for $14.99. I was able to find an old BBC2 broadcast of Wings Over America to burn onto dvd. Along with my blu-ray purchase of Rockshow I was perfectly content on this series. 2014 was a year to catch up on adding the Deluxe Edition to my collection; McCartney II (for my 30th) and the nt V&M and WATSOS sets. I periodically looked up on Amazon if the WOA deluxe set had come down below $100; no luck but I did not think too much of it. Well my employer gave me a $100 Walmart giftcard for participating in a health screening. I held onto it thinking what can I use this card for as I don't really do much shopping there. All my xmas shopping was already complete so I figured why not check their website for the WOA set. There it was for $114. Here was my chance to finally get it; for the massive amounts of reading material and the elusive dvd in much better quality than I could find. A week later it arrived (in a decent shipped package) and my mouth just dropped. This IS the mother load of sets! Holy Crap....I thought the RAM set was huge. This set size is as large as the previous three Deluxe releases combined. The David Fricke book was amazing; although I'm not a huge fan of Rolling Stone magazine anymore. The Wings over America tour itinerary book gives a first hand window into that tour of almost 40 years ago. I'll keep my 3cd Best Buy set handy for car trips but this set will get looked at quite a few times for the reading. I would say at $114 bucks this is quite a fair price; four books and four discs. I will say that with the recent release of V&M and WATSOS - my Wings fandom was skyrocketed. I've always like Wings and enjoyed a few of their albums I had prior to the 2010-2014 releases but now I'm finding my interest going beyond that of which I had with The Beatles almost 20 years ago as an 11 year old. I hope in 2016 we can see a double release of London Town/BTTE and/or Wild Life/RRS.
