So I was just thinking about my first Macca LP purchase and when I became addicted!!! When was yours? I watched Rockshow when it was shown at Xmas in the UK (1978?) then for my 14th birthday in early January ALL my birthday money was spent on Wings Over America ....£9 (yes NINE pounds). I will never forget the smell of the gatefold and sliding out the vinyl I played it so much on an old Windsor/Garrard "stereo" that it warped and I had to sellotape an old penny to the stylus to stop it jumping.......It was years before I heard the full version Soilly!. I was sold!! within a year all pocket money spent on Macca.....and it has continued ever since.......................................

Meet the Beatles in early 1964 at age almost 9. I could probably fund the feeding & education of at least one starving child in Africa with the money I've spent since then on Beatles and solo stuff! (of course Macca solo first was McCartney in 1970 at age 15)

Meet the Beatles for me in early 1964 also. I was 12. I also have spent a small fortune on Beatles LPs, 45s, 8 tracks, cassettes, CDs, mp3s, etc., not to mention all the magazines, dolls, etc. that I have purchased. Same goes for Macca only I didn't buy Wings when it came out.

My first vinyl came via inheritance from my Dad's collection when he died. He had everything, and me and my brother split it. I got all the Beatles stuff, he got all the Stones stuff. and then since he wasn't into vinyl as much as I was I just got all the rest. That was back in 2009, and since then I've been all about vinyl. its all I buy now., I honestly can't recall what the first LP I bought myself was... but I think it might have been something by Harry Nilsson. I think maybe it was the 'Harry' album. my old man had only Nilsson Schmilsson, and that album completely blew me away. First listen and I was like, how the fuck is this guy not the biggest thing since sliced bread!? still surprising how little you hear about him. I also went through a phase of buying up Motley Crue records, cause I used to be really into them when I was way too young to be into a group like that. I had four gold fish when i was like 8, and named them Tommy, Nikki, Mick and Vince vinyls cool. I may be an idiot for buying so many records.. who knows if its a dying media in this digital age.. but I love it. I hope the undergroung vinyl lovers out there keep it alive. count me in.

its like trying to catch the sun on the water..

I purchased London Town in '78 when I was visiting NYC. It was the first LP I bought with my own money.

MY first LPs ever where children's records. Merry Christmas From the Brady Bunch. I was 4. When I was 5, I was going through my cousin's LPs in her living room by the stereo. She was a teen. I found Magical Mystery Tour. I thought it was a children's album with the animal costumes, rainbow letters and comic book inside. Listening to it, I still thought it was a child's album. I was blown away by Fool on the Hill and Your Mother Should Know thinking, "Those songs are genius." My cousin caught me and said she had something for me to hear. She played Octopus's Garden for me as I was going through a big phase of being enamoured with Kracken since I learned they were real not made up. I even carried a rubber one around with me that I had for years and got to see a dead small squid in a jar at school. I was hooked ever since on the Beatles but of course I loved Paul a lot.

"I don't like you" "I'll get over it"

I think it was Wings Greatest. I was kinda put off by the rubbish cover but loved the songs esp. Uncle Alber/Admiral Halsey which seemed a bit weird compared to the other stuff.

My memory is a bit hazy about first Macca album. I would think it might of been Ram , Red Rose Speedway or Band On The Run. Maybe I got a few all at the same time. My very first vinyl record was the Another Day 7" single. I do remember first Beatles LP it was called The Essential Beatles an Australian only 1971 compilation release and also had a couple of those 7" inch 4 track EP's. One was The Beatles Hits (Love Me Do, Please Please Me. From Me To You & Thank You Girl). The other was Yesterday with Dizzy Miss Lizzy, It's Only Love & You Like Me Too Much. I still have all of them.

Listen to the song they sing,
                              Awakening

Before Meet The Beatles I seem to recall my record collection consisted of a colored vinyl LP of The Chipmunks and a recording of the Mercury Astronauts flying around the Earth in the early 60's. In '64 I also enjoyed the Original Soundtrack to Mary Poppins very much.

I remember listening to The Beatles Double Red Vinyl that belonged to my older sister I was about 11 years old. That was the first time I was intoduced to the Beatles & also listening to Band on the Run when it came out on 8 track tape. Gosh! I feel old! I sure wish they had digital media 30+ years ago. I really need to unload my lp's at my next garage sale or ebay as they take up too much space doing nothing.

How many in your collection Rockerdude, and what city are you close too? US? maybe not me personally, depending on what your vinyl collection is worth, but I know a couple people in the business that would definitely size up your collection and make you an offer to buy the whole thing. let me know any time if you'd like me to put you in touch with someone. not hard to find buyers for used vinyl though, you probably know this. I could make it extra easy for you though if you're close to Chicago.
