THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL
-
I ordered mine and I am extremely happy with the set!!! No matter how you add it up, the most video and audio content on one set to date by a good margin. Would adding an extra disk make it better instead of download...absolutely but unlike many here, that doesn't bother me so much. I'll simple burn a disk with those tracks, make my own disk and insert it in the set. Simple solution for a simple problem. My outlook is that most of these sets offered us 7-12 bonus tracks. The two disks added here is 18 tracks so already better than the norm. Most of the DVD's were 30 minutes or less. This is way beyond that as well. Giving me an additional 16 bonus tracks just sweetens the pot for me. I would have bought the set without them. My hope is that the disk 3 demos with the band are studio quality. (nothing leads me to believe that it isn't) and if it is, this could be the McCartney/McManus album that never was. Excites the heck out of me just thinking about it and March 24th can't come quick enough I much rather get a 16 extra bonus tracks than for him to have stopped with the 4 disks! Just my opinion! Merry Christmas!

wow! genial !! next time he should release only an empty box for 200 pounds with all cds to be downloaded and burned into cdrs. it's so simple. why he hasn't already done a thing like this? it's so simple!

it is so simple. I guess he didn't take into account anal retentive collectors instead of being grateful for 16 extra tracks would rather have had him stop at Disk 3.

I must admit, it is quite annoying that the B-sides are only included as downloads. How hard can it be just to include one further CD? Very strange. With the other deluxe editions, the B-sides and outtakes have generally been included on the second disc. Here, they have sacrificed that by including two discs of different versions of the same material. I only hope the downloads are of a reasonable quality.

not really....average number of bonus tracks on the last 9 sets is 9-12 tracks. This has 34. Other than the 3 more Mac and Mac demos on the download material, everything there has been available since the 90's. Nothing new, nothing ground breaking. Same old B-Sides and bonus tracks that we all have. So I have no problem to delegate it to the download zone! Or even better, take them off the set completely. And even with that, there is still more tracks then the other sets

I was three when Flowers in the Dirt was originally released. I don't already have all the B-sides. Whatever the case, it would not have been a great effort to put an extra disc in there, especially with a big set like this. How many discs were included with the Ram set?

Elvis Costello - Tommy's Coming Home (Carnegie Hall - June 25, 2014)

Just not that excited about this release. Was never a huge fan of FITD; loved Figure of Eight, This One, and That Day Is Done, but the remaining songs never made much of an impression. And have never been a fan of Elvis Costello at all. So of course I'll pick up the 2CD version, but that's it. Patiently waiting for Back To The Egg, Red Rose Speedway and Memory Almost Full. And to all, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Please take a listen as we discuss Flowers in the Dirt - this took place the same day as the official announcement. I think our discussion reflects a lot of the same sentiment as the general forum opinion on this release. =============== "On The Way" December 16, 2016 2Legs is Back! Join Tom Hunyady and David Gargalino as they discuss the latest news as "Flowers in the Dirt" gets an official release date. We talk about the good the bad and the downright ugly of this new set from the archive series. We also talk about Paul's recent Grammy nominations. What's he up for? We'll let you know here. FITD is a fine album but its just part of a pretty boring, uninteresting part of Paul's career. I'd rather have had Wild Life or Red Rose Speedway, weaker albums musically but far more interesting. I might go for the FITD double cd later on next year when it will be cheaper but the deluxe edition I'll be giving a definite miss.

Paul promised us all the McCartney/Costello collaborations. This set is very disappointing. Their 'Veronica' demo is not even here.

Paul could learn a thing or two from Dylan. Dylan has released virtually all his demo material through his bootleg series. Amazing stuff. There is no rhyme or reason to what Paul is doing. He has terrible marketing people period.

Agreed. I liked his next two 90's releases, Off The Ground and Flaming Pie, much more. Flowers in the Dirt has some good songs, My Brave Face and This One especially. They should have been on Pure McCartney, imo. But I won't be getting this reissue.

I agree about terrible marketing. And the length of time between the Archive releases has been ridiculous! I think I read somewhere this will be the last Deluxe Box Set though. Too bad, I wish they'd do a complete Off The Ground.

Nonsense that this will be the last. MPL's vision is long term.

Agreed. Wouldn't make sense to stop here.

While I am definitely excited to get this, I can't help but be somewhat disappointed, both in the fact that we have to download 16 tracks, and that there are still missing tracks and mixes. There are a few things that are really bothering me about the whole reissue process: 1. While the books are well done, the main point of this process is the music. There is so much printed material, they are pricing some people out of getting the music. A lot of people are willing to pay this for a few releases, but it gets harder to justify for the whole catalog. I say that as Flowers will be my 10th out of 10 getting the deluxe editions, but I know others have to draw the line. 2. To me, at a bare minimum, the collections should have the remastered album and all officially released non-album tracks. This would include tracks from CD singles, 12" singles, 7" singles, DJ edits, alternative mixes, etc. I'm keeping a listing of the tracks that they have missed in the process. It's possible that some of what I'm perceiving as missed tracks will crop up later (things like I Wanna Cry from the Choba B CCCP sessions), but that is part of the difficulty of jumping all around chronologically. 3. The lack of a comprehensive plan, at least the appearance of that to the fans. We all wonder what albums are coming next and when. But even from collection to collection, there seems to be inconsistencies as to what gets included. For example, Flowers has gone heavy in the demos (which I love in this case, as the Costello ones are fantastic from what I have heard myself), but other collections haven't gone down that path at all. The content in Flowers excites me, but in my mind it could still be a little bit better. I sometimes wish we could have one of our resident fans serve in some capacity in this project.

I believe that the problem with getting Veronica is that that song was released with Warner Brothers so it could've been quite messy to get that demo added on as well

But Shallow Grave and So Like Candy were also released by Warners', on various Elvis albums, so not sure what the difference is between those and Veronica.
