Picked up both V&M and SOS yesterday at Best Buy. Bought the 2 CD versions at $16.95 each. I did not see the DVD/Book versions at the store in Wesley Chapel Florida. Started playing V&M remaster CD first on the way home. Very early 1st impressions (didnt get through entire CD): Love In Song sounded amazing. Forgot how good of a song it is. As a whole, the Wings Of America live versions of V&M songs sound better to me. Maybe it is the production on the studio versions or because Joe English had only joined Wings midway through V&M. By the time the Band went out on the road the following year, Wings was really cooking. I think Joe was a great drummer and it came through on the live album. I personally think that Wings Over America is one of the finest live albums of all time (by anyone). The studio version of Letting Go is more of a slower, bluesy version whereas the live version is more rock. I remember when Paul brought back Letting Go around 2011 -2012 with his current band and I love that version too. In many cases throughout Paul's solo career, I do prefer the live versions. I think that will especially be the case on the V&M songs. I had lost my original V&M cassette years ago so it has been a long time since I heard the studio songs. Knowing the live versions from Wings over America so well, it will take me a little bit to get used to it. I will be interested to see how I like it in another week or two. As I said, I love "Love In Song".

"Rock Show" shows his real potential in WOA, the same for "Magneto and titanium man", "Letting Go"... Venus & Mars has seven or eight great songs but when I listen WOA I can't avoid the idea of why did Paul made V&M so... soft (referring about the sound, not the quality)

It's especially strange given that the album before, the very successful 'Band On The Run', had a 'harder', more natural sound. Just imagine what 'Rock Show' (for example) would have sounded like had its production been on the same par as 'Jet', 'Let Me Roll It' or 'Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five'?

This alternate 7 minute version of Rock Show is fantastic!

Gave the "new" tracks of both albums a listen, interesting, but "4th of July" is a bit of a disappointment, heavily processed and not too memorable, that "since Friday" line sounds a bit trite. On the other hand the thundering "Rock Show" is great, they don't make bass lines like that anymore ! Paul really needs to pull out the Rickenbacker on stage

When it comes to Paul and live vs studio versions, it's almost without fail that the live version has much more bite than the studio counterpart - the only real exceptions seems to be when the band leaves Paul for the acoustic part of the show (those songs seem to be as tender as the original studio versions)

Best price I found in the US was deepdiscount. 120 USD for both deluxe remasters.

$52.00 ea plus a code for 10% off http://www.importcds.com/Search/Guided/paul+mccartney edit to add where I bought mine.. ccmusic.com

Exactly. Maybe because we think that Paul could made a harder rock in the mid seventies, and WOA is the proof that it was possible. This is why I can understand the direction that Paul gave to At The Speed Of Sound.

Would the price be better at the places that I mentioned? I know the time frame will definitely be better. I have mine already from ccmusic.

the only thing i have purchased from either release is the original version of rockshow. not bad. i prefer the finished/polished version on V&M but i really like both. not impressed with what i've seen on the "deluxe edition" on iTunes. that said, i actually searched for "thrillington" and was surprised to find that on iTunes and purchased about half the lp. too many people is absolutely amazing!
