Back On My Feet can be really cool! But I'm very skeptical

Okay, now that we're looking at EIGHT shows in NYC in September. There has GOT to be more variations than the standard flip one or two songs every other night. The press won't let him get away with that at this point.

Yahllil:
In the latest Q&A paul said that they're planning to play some songs from Flowers In The Dirt live (but they haven't rehearsed them yet), so should we expect a song or two from FITD this USA leg? My Brave Face? This One? Figure Of 8?
Category "we're going to do a Fireman gig", "one day I'm going to do a gig for the 'Flaming Pie'-crowd", "we've rehearsed and going to play the whole new album live". Not going to happen. He's even honest here, simply says they didn't rehearse anything, doesn't even try to convince us. Around 15 songs in the current set not played in New York (Brooklyn) last time. This is going to be it.

You can't just look at the last time, you need to assess all standard public touring shows. There's only seven songs he has never played in NYC in this format. To be doing TEN shows in the area and expect a positive response, that number needs to double.

Yeah, but I got stung to this many times since I'm following his tours, haha. Remember what we said for Tokyo? He did 4 gigs in 4 years in The Netherlands alone. 3 in one year time even. And when counting Belgium and a bit of the west of Germany (Cologne, Dusseldorf, 1 hour drive max from the east of The Netherlands), which is a territory as big as an average state in the US, haha, at least a majorly overlapping crowd, he did 9 gigs in 4.5 years, the same press reviewing the majority of those gigs. We thought at least the stories would change, at least the encore would change, at least the tributes would change, at least the placement of the big songs would change... Nothing. Just the different tour and rotation songs (15 on average each 2-3 year round) is enough. Not even a soundcheck song came out for any of those gigs. And that spare big wig and brown noser venue gig he did in NY a while ago can barely be counted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last NY tour gig was Yankee Stadium in 2011 (and Brooklyn in 2013), and there would be around 15 changes. Regardless, this will indeed be the final big test if he really would be eager to change things up, because I know what you are saying, almost 10 gigs in the same area is extreme. But so far he didn't pass the "same territory" test as showed, didn't pass the "new album promotion" test and also didn't pass the "venue/special gig" test. The wildest "recent" decision he made was opening with 'The Hippy Hippy Shake' for Anfield or adding 'Honey Hush' for Coachella or something. The level of swaps will be 'Drive My Car' instead of 'Can't Buy Me Love' on the 4th night and 'I've Just Seen A Face' instead of 'And I Love Her' on night 5, I personally think.

I think a lot of this hinges on the new record. We know this is still the One on One tour, so no one should be expecting a major overhaul. BUT, the locals that go every time he comes should be able to hear at least ten songs that they haven't before. That's a little less than a third of the set, and Paul hasn't broken that pattern with NYC yet. From my count, there were 12 songs that were new to New York in 2013.

Maybe he will do "Figure Of Eight"

Fair enough this will be another half year down the line. A November 2013 or May 2015 (4 new additions, the former because of a new record out, the latter because so much overlap in the same territory wouldn't be an option) scenario wouldn't be this unrealistic suddenly. An addition from a then half year old Archive Release he barely remembers or wanna promote nor has any feeling for though? Not going to happen.

Totally agree. Mentioning FITD is just blowing smoke.

Should not be that hard to really shake it up especially if he has new record. Play four songs from new record and add two from FITD. That leaves another four songs which could include songs like "Little Willow", "Take It Away", "Rocky Raccoon" and "I Can Bet". Deletions IMO would be easy but I am not him - lol. He can get rid of "Temporary Secretary",In Spite Of All Danger", "Queenie Eye", "New", "I Wanna Be Your Man", Let Me Roll It", "My Valentine", "Benefit For Mr. Kite", "45 Seconds" and "Lady Madonna".

I just watched this entire Q&A, and I have one question. Has Paul gone slightly senile? What the heck is up with his answer about Here, There and Everywhere?! He says he and John were filming Help in Austria and listened to the record and John said it was his favorite of Paul's. Hello! Paul, you didn't write the song until over a year later! : Sorry, rant over.

He's been telling the story exactly like that since at least the '84 Playboy interview: http://courses.music.indiana.edu/rock/paulint.html. It's just one of his many oft-repeated stories that contain some completely false or impossible details, yet no one ever corrects him.

He has a lot of YES men.

Without seeming to shoot down everything fun, here's a list which puts any solo album track proposal in a depressing perspective. I'm not counting any "latest/current release" songs. Solo hits played during initial tour/release and also in last 15 years, often staples on recent tours: My Love C Moon Maybe I'm Amazed Jet Let Me Roll It Live and Let Die Band on the Run Coming Up Let 'Em In Venus And Mars / Rock Show Letting Go Another Day Hi Hi Hi Listen To What The Man Said Junior's Farm Mull Of Kintyre (special gigs since 2002) Wonderful Christmastime (festivities gigs since 2009) Songs performed before, resurrected with this band: Every Night (2002-2003 acoustic, since 2010 full band arrangement rarely) Ebony And Ivory (2010, special gig one-off) Bluebird (2010, twice) Hope Of Deliverance (since 2013 very rarely) Looking For Changes (2015, special gig one-off, performed during initial tour) Solo album tracks/B-sides never performed before: Great Day (2003, special gig one-off) In Liverpool (2008, special gig one-off) Cosmically Conscious (2009, special gig one-off) - Too Many People (2005, one tour only) Ram On (since 2010, only by request) - Calico Skies (2002-2005 and 2008-2009 staple) Flaming Pie (2004-2010 staple) Here Today (2002-2005, 2007-now staple) Mrs. Vandebilt (2008-2013 staple) Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five (since 2010 staple) Temporary Secretary (since 2015) So with the current band the surprises which people could actually catch on tour have been 'Every Night' (2002) 'Calico Skies' (2002), 'Here Today' (2002)', 'Flaming Pie' (2004), 'Too Many People' (2005), 'Mrs. Vandebilt ' (200, 'Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five' (2010), 'Ram On' (2010) and 'Temporary Secretary' (2015). Old songs being brought back to promote a remaster? Zero. 15 years, 1000 gigs. And even the latter 2 got the "sandwich method", like, I don't really want to perform it, but... So as you can see, I'm not very optimistic about any solo additions .

I don't think it's any coincidence Bluebird came back for a few gigs around the BOTR reissue. It's a shame that he won't do that one in shows now
-
It's a shame he doesn't read what we write here (or have someone else read it and report back to him) We are like a f r e a k i n g broken record!! It is beyond frustrating to us and he will never know it! When I see him in July, if he doesn't do at least one "new" song I will be very disappointed. All he has to do is ONE big surprise like This One, My Brave Face or something he's never done in concert before (but I guess that would be too much like work)

Whoops, missed that one, adding it. That's the only example even remotely close though. None songs to promote the Archive Releases whatsoever. Also not going to happen now, for a record where he even in the dedicated 150 euro deluxe edition can barely bring himself to memorise something about the songs.

Yes, especially as it's done in soundcheck quite often.
