2017 Setlist Speculation Thread

Talking about Pepper and the upcoming boxset, the only song from Sgt Pepper not played by Paul live is When I am 64... Like tribute he could play also Lucy in the sky instead of Mr Kite.

Unless you count when that chap proposed to his wife. He didn't sing but he and the band joined in. But I'm being nitpicky, I know. I'd much rather hear Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds than Mr Kite. Nothing against that particular song but it's never been one of my favourites.

I think that Lovely Rita should've stayed & Mr Kite got replaced. Lovely Rita was excellent live. I like Mr Kite but it's not a song I was dying to hear live

Oh, don't tell me Lovely Rita's gone? That's such a shame. This is an odd thread for me to be a part of as I don't like to know what's on the setlist until a year or two later so I can be surprised in the increasingly unlikely possibility of an Australian tour. So, the last setlist I have is from the 2013 Tokyo shows. I was saddened when I found out Listen to What the Man Said went and even more so by Lovely Rita.

Mr. Kite was downright insanely awesome the first time. I NEVER thought I'd hear any Beatle tackle it live! BUT...the allure rapidly wore off. In an arena or stadium concert, Lovely Rita is way more effective and Paul has the original lead vocal anyway. I don't think one is necessarily more well known than the other, but Lovely Rita is conventional enough that it makes a casual fan think "yeah, I know this!" whereas Mr. Kite leaves a casual fan thinking "uhh that was weird".
-
I absolutely agree. Rita was a lovely addition. Mr Kite is awesome live, but not my favorite comparatively.
-
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I certainly think All My Loving should return to the set
-
Prediction: 'Birthday' out, 'Get Back' in.

agreed. I think it'll continue to alternate with I Saw Her Standing There. I also believe Save Us will be swapped with either Junior's Farm, Jet, a new song, or a FITD song if we're really really lucky

In semi-related news, I saw Denny Laine (with Steve Holley) last week. Setlist included: Time To Hide No Words Again and Again and Again Deliver Your Children Picasso's Last Words Richard Cory Go Now Mull Of Kintyre Spirits Of Ancient Egypt Good show.

Haha, I'm really cynical at night ;). Honestly I think/I hope for one surprise at least at the Budokan, since last time at Japan he did the same.

I agree. By this point, it'll probably be something played before but not in a while like I'll Get You or For No One, unless he decides to pull out something like Martha My Dear, or a new Wings/Solo track

I believe Martha My Dear is too hard for him to sing & play. The piano part of that song is very hard to do. It would be great to hear live but I'm very doubtful on that one ever being performed. He did it briefly at the soundcheck at the Budokan but it's a hard song on the piano.

I don't know why but I always think of All My Loving and Can't Buy Me Love as a one or the other deal. I think I'd probably rather hear All My Loving, though, if I had to pick.

I agree, and that's what I'm implying by saying that

I wouldn't mind "All My Loving" coming back in place of "Can't Buy Me Love". I don't really think one is better than the other live, they're both great...but it's been a few years so a switch would be alright by me. BUT I'd really rather see another early Beatle hit take that third song slot altogether. "I'll Get You" would be a fine fit back in there, and I've never heard it like many others here. Or how about "She's a Woman"? That could be a real heavy rocker and still keep the Beatles early spirit if they wanted to.
-
My dream is for him to do "What You're Doing." It might be too high for his range now though.

I've always wanted to hear that too...but I think it's just slightly more mellow (despite the tympani) than the rockers that typical go that early in the set. It would have to go at the end of the opening electric set, kinda like "The Night Before" did for awhile.

or it could be in the 2nd electric set

I'd love for Penny Lane to come back for the 50th anniversary. I could see it either in the first electric set, where Temporary Secretary is now, or in the second, where Ob-La-Di is now
