Here, when people eat dinner that early, they're usually about 80 years old.
Seriously, the elderly here like toeat early (isn't that right, Tina?
;)),
You betcha...so we can get the food digested before we go out dancing

Dinner? It's still pretty early there, isn't it? Is that "dinner" as Americans know it....that is, the 'evening' meal? Or is your "dinner" what we'd call "lunch"?
We usually eat dinner at a around 4 here. Is that early? Maybe it's what you call lunch. Lunch here at around 12.
So your dinner is the evening meal, just like ours is....just earlier. Here, when people eat dinner that early, they're usually about 80 years old.
Seriously, the elderly here like to eat early (isn't that right, Tina?
;)), but most families eat dinner somewhere between say, 5:00 and 7:00 or so.
And yes, lunch is the same for us....around noon....say, 11:30 to 1:30 or 2:00.
I think it's basically the same her then. Because eating dinner at 5 or 6 is also very common... I know old people eat dinner early... I think my parents in law eat dinner at around 1! hehe

That's right. But no beer for me this weekend... I forgot to buy it yesterday... and since it's public holiday... stores are closed. And they don't open til Tuesday.
Really? Too bad for you.
What public holiday is it?
:
not always easy buying beer--- not legal to sell it after 8 pm on weekdays and after 6 pm on Saturday... On Sundays we can't buy beer at all. Certainly not on religious holidays... As for wine, only few stores are allowed to sell it. Not in grocery stores. Today it's Whit Sunday. Do you celebrate Whitsun?
Ah, I see. When alcohol sales here in the States are allowed/disallowed varies by state, and often by counties, or regions, within a state. For example, for a long time, alcohol of any kind could not be purchased at all on Sundays (and then later it was loosened to "before 1:00 PM on Sundays", then abolished altogether, I think), virtually anywhere in what's called "The Bible Belt", which is (loosely defined) as the South-eastern US, which has traditionally been viewed as fairly conservative and "religious", but much of that's a stereotype, I assure you. As for Whitsun, the "7th Sunday after Easter" is also celebrated here, but not by that name. Here, it's called "Pentecost", and recognizes the decent of the Holy Spirit. What I recall most about it when I first learned this stuff years and years ago
: was the phenomenon of "speaking in tongues" that accompanies the Pentecost, and how all people speaking those many different languages were able to understand each other (if I recall that correctly
ops
. Too bad we can't all do that now, eh?.....understand each other, no matter the language, I mean.

Maybe that says more about her source than it does about her!
But you do make a good point.

Some variations across the country too. In the bible belt (yeah, we have that here too) there are cities where not even grocery stores sell beer. But they have something called the beer monopoly, which is the place where they sell all the beer. Wine you can forget about! But the regulations are ridiculous... Where I grew up they had a store that sold only beer. Lots of brands, and it was a huge success. But the politicians did not like that, and it was banned... This is one of the reason that the party to the far right that want to abolish all these regulations are doing so well. Pentecost, you can say that here too. I think it means fifty. Fifty days after Easter Sunday.

So why is the sale of wine treated so differently than beer, Svenn? Here, we have sometimes had differences between sales of beer/wine and "hard liquor", like vodka, etc., but not between beer and wine...at least not to my knowledge (which, albeit, may be limited
).

That is a very good question, but I do not have a good answer. Ask the stupid politicians.

Good morning everyone
Christy thanks for the vid

That is correct. There is no place where we can buy beer/wine after 8 pm on the weekdays and after 6 on Saturday (apart from restaurants, pubs etc). You have to be 18 to buy beer/wine and 20 to buy liquor. I know the reason for it, they want to reduce the alcohol consumption. But I still think it should be ok to buy wine in a grocery store. Beer is ok but not wine. It makes no sense at all.

Once you are 21 in Oregon you can buy beer/wine anytime you find a store open (I think...maybe a 2am cut off but I'm not sure), hardliquor is sold only in state run liquor stores and they have shorter hours of business. Svenn do they still sell alcohol by the drink in pubs and restaurants after 8pm?
-
You should see Oslo in the weekends... Party town! Alcohol sold until 2am.
We love to get drunk...

Yeah, I bet Oregon is DAplace to be, just check this out!
http://citrussoldier.com/comic-30.html You remember about our State owned Liquor/wine/strong beer stores, I am not complaining about it, we can get almost the best variety of wines there is, and if I want it I can go and buy every day except on Sundays, so no problem at all. In the regular food stores you can get 3,5% beer...

Wow, went to see FOOTLOOSE this Saturday, and it was magic, had seats on the 4th row, and the performers were totally amazing, great singers and dancers, and also pretty good actors for being a musical. Here is a medley with the cast on a Swedish TV-show, though it was in Swedish in the musical, it ended with a medley with the best songs in English.
Also the weather has been totally amazing, with 25C and blue skies, we were out the whole weekend just having a great time! But it ended today, it's back to 10C and cold northern winds...at least the nice weather was during the weekend! -
With the last pages of topics you could think this was a secret AA group's meeting place!!
Of course we all know that the sum of all vices is constant!! But somehow Norwegians must have a higher sum!

I saw Mama Mia a few years back and now I know why they do it in your language
otherwise you only hear the music and not the story that they wanna tell you
even with Mama Mia they did an english medley at the end and you where aloud to sing and dance
