A break from the regular scheduled programming here, my acoustic duo performing FROM ME TO YOU at a local library gig:
This was really good, I don't think I actually hear this covered that much and you guys didn't a great job at it! Keep it up!
Thank you! We already do a bunch of Beatles, but also Crowded House and Simon and Garfunkel and Everly Brothers! Harmonies everywhere. Ha ha!
What is the name of your duo?
Lenin and McCarthy. I suspect every town has one of those!!

Interesting report from the Examiner about Macca floating an idea about closing Candlestick Park in SF. http://www.examiner.com/article/report-paul-mccartney-floats-idea-of-show-at-site-of-beatles-last-concert

Because he hasn't played San Francisco in ages! :

Aren't there any Wings-/solo-era-related events and places that Paul could commemorate? Does EVERYTHING have to be about The Beatles?

That's a good point but...nope. I can't think of any historic venues associated to Wings or the solo era. Except maybe, for when he had that big record in Brazil in 1990.

The thing is, like it or not, Wings doesn't hold even a fraction of the cultural or historical significance that The Beatles do.

I'm SURE he (or his people) could find some dates BUT Paul has never promoted nor acknowledged them like he does the Beatles...so no one cares. Shame really.

Sounds like it's going to happen from what was said in the article. But SF's short rainy season starts in November. And the demolition is set for right after the 49ers' season, so February? It could be a cold, wet, windy concert.

Yes.

February is too early. No definitive date has been given for the Candlestick demolition ("as early as a few weeks after the end of the 49ers season"). Given McCartney's annual schedule, If the show happens, I would expect it to be sometime in the month of March, probably the first half...

Yes, because this is how a "revisionist" acts!
-
Better he books a smaller, intimate venue and does NON Beatles songs - for one night only. Seriously. :

There are several Wings-specific venues that have disappeared in recent years that Paul could've commemorated with a farewell show but didn't. Off the top of my head, the Summit in Houston and the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Checking Google, you also have the Omni in Atlanta, the original Boston Garden, and the Seattle Kingdome. All of these were gone before his return to touring though.

Not so with the Omni in Atlanta. I saw him there in 1976 and 1990. Then it was torn down and replaced with Philips Arena. He played the GA Dome in 1993 (terrible acoustics) and thankfully played at Philips in 2002 & 2005.

That still wouldn`t make Wings culturally significant, though.

: Of couse they were not as significant as the Beatles were/are. But he could promote his own & solo music more. He is much more than a Beatle. Wasn't there a list...maybe in 2005 that said just that? a Beatle, a Wing...what else did it say.
-
I was referring to the 90's gap, from 1994 - 2002. Since then, his only significant time away from the road was the "I'm Getting Divorced" period of 2006-2008.

If we're talking culturally significant, at this rate he'll be in talks to play St Peter's Church Hall...

He should recreate the University tour. Same venues, sets...crappy van
