It is significant in that if Brian is planning solo shows in South America, that could mean a break from touring with Paul for a few months. No biggie.
That makes sense. I'm sure he has been assured by Paul (or MPL Tours) that no concerts are planned during a certain period of time, in which he is free to do solo concerts. That means it's an interesting idea to keep an eye on Brian's touring schedule, as that seems to be an indication of Paul's concert plans as well.
Yep, all the guys...I think we've always done that. Brian and Rusty do perform a fair amount on their own, when able. Abe toured with Clapton for awhile when Paul was really laying low...it's Wix that doesn't do much outside of McCartney's shows
Wix actually missed two secret gigs in the U.S. back in 2007 due to other musical commitments.
Really? I don't remember that. Did McCartney do those shows as a four piece? I need to check that out!
No...Paul used a replacement keyboard player (Dave...don't recall his last name) that played the shows in New York and Los Angeles.
-
Yep, missed the Highline Ballroom and Amoeba Records...also missed The Concert for NYC in 2001

Wix didn't miss the Concert for NYC....Gabe Dixon, who was Paul's keyboardist for the Driving Rain CD was in the band at that time. Wix didn't (re) join Pauls band util the 2002 tour in the U.S.

Well, I'd hardly consider him being in the "band" more of a fill-in...it was only one show right?
-
It was their second show together. They did a benefit earlier in 2001 as well.
(Go to 13:45, where Eric Clapton asks if he is playing with his band.) -

DrivinFan has it right. It is a misstatement to say that Wix "missed" those two gigs. Paul wanted Gabe (who lives in the same city as me, btw ) to tour with him, but Gabe had his own band at the time that he was very committed to.

To give up a Paul McCartney tour? THAT is commitment!

They SHOULD commit him for turning Macca down!

Isn't that also why Brian joined the band? The studio guitarist Paul asked to join the band was focusing on his own solo music, so he said no? This is at least the story I heard...
-
Yes, the band we know and love today, did their first performance together in 2002 at the Superbowl, performing "Freedom". This was Brian's first show, he was the last to join.

And Brian didn't know he'd joined the band actually, until after the performance. I believe Paul said something to the effect of, "See you at the next show," and that was Brian's entrance to the band.

Yes! I recall reading or hearing that...then you mopped up Brian and sent him out to Oaklad for the Driving tour!
