The thing I don't like about Obama is that if he is not reading from a prepared text, I find it unbelievable he is a Harvard graduate, with all his ehs, ums, stuttering, long silences between words. He's almost an idiot when he is speaking off the cuff. He'll never win the White House. The more you know about him, the less impressive he becomes.
Do you know why? Because when a simple innocent remarks becomes a excuse to twist and distort his message and then next thing you see him falling in the polls. His wife make a simple remark and now she's anti American. He minister makes some heated remarks and he having to quit his church. Because people can't think for themselves and they expect more from a mere man than any of us could ever pull off. If he speaks his passion he'd be dead in the water like Howard Dean was. A good guy that was winning in the polls until a simple twist of fate. We forced our politician to be very careful, to a point of causing them to be mute and almost not have a opinion so it won't come back to bite them. George Washington would never of made it into office with todays standards of what makes a good politition. Well Carl Rove bring it on....let the games begin.
They weren't simple innocent remarks, especially by his pastor. Have you notice the Obama camp has muzzled his wife, I doubt if you will be hearing much from her.

For some reason Hillary reminds me on the Black Knight!

Despite what is said , Obama picked up a south carolina superdelegate this morning....so far, no others. They'll wait until Montana and South Dakota have their say. There is only "victory" when you sit in the oval office....that hasn't happened yet. Long way to go.
True enough, but Clinton is arguably a more formidable opponent than McCain. And while McCain has disappointed me a lot in the last 6 months, I still regard him as a fundamentally decent person. Call me naive, but I'm looking forward to a very interesting and respectful general campaign. No doubt the partisan shills will bring the usual array of dirty tricks but this time it will be without the consent of the candidates themselves. Things are looking good.
Quite right, Bill....McCain is a fundamentally decent person. He lacks the "razzle dazzle" of Obama....then again, every other candidate did as well. No doubt Obama's win is historical by nature. I do hope that at some point, Obama will elaborate beyond "this is my vision"....like many, many others, we're still waiting for the "this is how I intend to reach it" piece. Unfortunately, the election may degenerate into "american idol".

An interesting fact: 35 million people voted in the Democratic primaries and caucuses. Of that 35 million votes 18 million people voted for Sen. Hillary Clinton which makes her the Presidential candidate that received the most popular votes in history because new voter registration and voter participation was at an all time high. That's more than 1/2 the popular votes. Many people have said that the electoral votes should be awarded the way the people actually voted. More people voted for Sen. Clinton than Sen. Obama but Obama is the presumptive nominee because of the way electoral votes are apportioned in each State. Obama took the smaller States and amassed the needed number of delegates that way but he was unable to bring in larger states which have historically put Democrats in The White House such as New York and Pennsylvania and lacked in the middle class white vote and white women vote. This is not sour grapes. It's merely a statement of fact followed by some observations. Sen. Obama must convince those 18 million voters in Sen. Clinton's camp to vote for him. It was said in last night's coverage that Obama either has to invite Sen. Clinton to be his VP or court Clinton's followers in a way that they nor Sen. Clinton are not disrespected to win them over. There was an interview with several women supporting Sen. Clinton on the "CBS Evening News With Katie Couric" last night and one woman said that she was going to stay home rather than vote for Obama or McCain. There were also a group of women outside the May 31, 2008 meeting in which the compromise of assigning Florida and Michigan's delegates was reached who said that they were so angry that they would vote for McCain. Both scenerios are scary. Voter apathy and voting out of anger are not the answers. A vote for McCain is a vote for continuing the war and the taxation policies of President G. W. Bush. The country is in a dire situation. We must keep Sen. McCain out of office. Last night in a speech Sen. McCain congratulated Sen. Obama and then went on to criticize Obama's overall inexperience and inexperience on war policy. I have said all along that Obama is not experienced to be running for President but the younger voters seemed to think otherwise and the present situation is what it is and it must be dealt with intelligently. It will be an interesting, albeit too long, 5 months. Some people say that the VP really doesn't do much but in an election such as the one we have in November, the VP part of the ticket may just be the convincing/healing factor the Democratic Party needs to win back The White House.

Hmm.....seems to me Michelle did damage control and that was the extent of it until the fall. The pastor remarks it seems to me were overblown. As far as his speaking style, Harvard is always better than Yale. And Rove isn't involved in the campaign Get out the electoral college boardgame.....this is where the real fun begins. Should Obama win, it wouldn't surprise me if he has a very weak Congress....hence, he won't get from point A to point B.

Heh. Good thing it's a doctorate then. JFK once said he had the best of both worlds: A Harvard education and a Yale degree

Don't get too excited It's another 5 months until the real election And a lot can happen in that time Both good & bad

Contraire...Carl Rove was a guest on some talking head this week and he suggested the "Some" fear that we won't know Obama real agenda until hes in offices. Which the pre-programmed talk host replied like if he was put in by the muslims extremest. So the talk is innuendos but there setting the seeds of doubt. If Obama made Wesley Clark his running mate that could do two folds. One the guy from West Point and highly educated and was a 4 star general. So military wise he would be helpful. He has extensive foreign affairs strength. Interestedly Westley Clark is a Jew. He did not learn of this until he was 16 and raised Babtist and later Catholic. However this would show the Jew's that he is not going to be a threat if he made one of them his running mate. Right now there a clear seed being planted that if Obama makes it he will be pro muslims etc. The Muslims are not the problem the extremest are.

this is awfull.......but someone is going to knock him off.......i will give him 12 months

Well it is getting down to Twiddle Dee Vs. Twiddle Dum -- I don't really like either one I don't like the direction they want to take this country - toward socialism -just my opinion. When it comes time to vote - I will - but it most likely will be the lesser of the two evils. (I said this way early in this thread and it has not changed all the way up to today). Yes there is still a lot that can happen up until then.

[quote="moggy"]this is awfull.......but someone is going to knock him off.......i will give him 12 months cry Right there is one of my biggest concerns about this whole game. Imagine the situation if Obama is killed....esp if it is a white person that does it. There would be such problems it might make the insanity of the 60's look like a tea party, since the level of violence and weapons has gotten to the level it is now. And seeing as how we have drained the economy due to a stupid war, this will cripple the country even more, making it weaker still. And since a lot of the religious nutcakes see him as the anti-chump, and a lot of religious riecht are blacks, it just might be a black that does it! If a black kills him, conspiracy theories will turn the JFK story into an episode of the Simpsons. Trust will be destroyed between the clubs, either racial or religious. but if he is not 'knocked off' and wins.....his lack of plans will sink the ship anyway, but his lack of support among the government anyway will prevent any of this alleged 'change' to occur at all. But so far I haven't heard any details of how these 'changes' are going to work anyway, as all I have heard him say is gonna cost more than we are gonna be able to afford. All I have heard is vague ideals and I will give him the charisma, but his true history shows more incompetence than ablity. And my near 60 years of life and a career in corporate jobs have had me see many incompetent blacks be promoted, causing whites to resist being supportive and the whole organization is nearly destroyed from either lack of leadership, or those that are competent leaving the 'company'. I have never pulled a republican lever behind the curtain [like the wizard of Oz!!] but if Obama is indeed the Demo choice, I will have to vote to prevent the above from occuring. And 4 more years of McBush is pretty scary too, but at least its the 'devil you know'

People need to listen to what Obama is really saying. He doesn't says he is going to end the war, he says he wants to reduce the troop level, but never says he will bring those men and women home, he says he will send them to Afghanistan. He is going to explode the war in Afghanistan and possibly spread it to Pakistan. If people think he is the peace candidate, they are grossly misguided, it's Obama big deceit. To respond to the Karl Rove post, he recently said the Obama will unravel during the campaign, and I think that will also happen. Obama's hands were really dirty in Chicago.
-
Right now this does not matter -- the media is giving Obama a free pass - closing their eyes and minds to anything he does or is associated with. Their agenda seems to be to get him in there.

He's the press's little darling right now, but I don't think that will last. Or maybe I'm wrong, the press has been terribly irresponsible with the Iraq war.

Not to pick on one guy -- McCain wants to be a "nice guy" willing to reach over the aisle and be good friends with the democrats. Not say anything bad about Obama. So what does Obama do in a recent speech? Pick apart all the things McCain stands for or wants to push forward. (Nothing wrong with that on Obama's part). If McCain wants it -- he is going to have to start going against the things Obama has voted on - or what Obama wants to accomplish by way of the Democrat party. And McCain seems to want to throw the Republicans under the bus - while showing he is a good friend to the Democrats. (Perhaps his advisors will help him - or he will get pounded down -- like two fighters going at it and one says he will not throw a punch -- the odds are the one throwing the punches is going to knock the other down.) *by punches -- I mean speaking out against your opponent's voting record, plans, ideas, etc....
