Remember the new voting rules this year... Florida votes early and then all those voting for McCain vote on Nov 4th and those that vote for Obama go on November 5th!
Even though you probably meant that in humor, I don't find that the least bit funny. I hope nobody is gullible enough to believe your "new voting rules this year". To clarify, Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, 2008 for everyone unless you have voted early in a State that allows it. November 5th is too late to vote!
Maybe that can be the new McCain campaign... "Vote Obama on November 5th!!"

Hi BotR, Obama has denounced that "racist Church". However, McCain's policies are prejudiced against the middle class, many of whom are black and he will not denounce his policies that favor the wealthy, he will implement them and that's scary. So is that racist? :
He did denounce it after attending it for 20 years, having his kids baptized there etc.. and then before denouncing it he said I can no more denounce wright than I can my etc etc..
Then after he realized he had to deonounce it politically, he did. I don't want to wait 20 years for a President to figure out that something is wrong with those he surrounds himself withYou didn't answer the question. Do you consider McCain's policies racist? : I made the mistake once of saying to one message board member that we agree to disagree and he came back "No, we don't." so I will say it this way. I think we disagree with each other's views and that's OK and I have the feeling that nothing we can say to each other will change the way we will vote in this election. My wallet may not be as fat as a corporate executive who got a bonus after his company failed but my conscience is clear that my vote for Obama/Biden will benefit the majority of Americans while McCain will make Bush's tax cuts that favor the wealthy in America permanent, which is totally unacceptable to me, as is the continuation of Bush's War. That is why I already said my only intent is to inform the undecided voter.

[quote="Fan Since 1964 You didn't answer the question. Do you consider McCain's policies racist? : quote] No, I don't consider McCain's policies racist. The reason that the middle class is the middle class is not because they are over-taxed from government policies. To that, I consider it nothing less than stealing when a policy decides to tax the upper class to give to the middle. Who gave the money to the upper class? If I make over $250k because I bust my rump, why does the government want to steal it from me and give it to those that may not have worked as hard as me to make the $250k? I'm all for helping the have-nots etc, but I believe that it should be my decision to do so and not forced upon me by the government. America is not about entitlement or handouts, it about having the opportunity to succeed, there was never and it was never intended that success in America would be a guarantee.
-
Hello BotR, No, America is not about entitlements or handouts but when the Bush Administration's education policy of "No Child Left Behind" is a colossal failure that leads to underfunding and denies the future generation a chance to succeed, that's a problem. Take some of these multi-million dollar exit packages given to corporate executives of failed companies and pump that into education. Plus, taxes are forced upon all of us by the government anyway but that taxation policy got us out of The Great Depression of the 1930's and early 1940's and we're in a recession now even though some people won't use the "R" word and we are in the worst shape since The Great Depression. What about the $700 Billion bailout package? That's a "handout" to failed Wall Street banks and investment firms. Everyone who earns $250k does not bust their butt to get it. Some are born into wealth with a golden spoon in their mouths and some rich kids are the biggest excuses for human beings because they live an extravigant lifestyle on their Parents' coattails without ever having to work a day in their lives. John McCain rationalizes the bailout as reacting to mismanagement on Wall Street but President Bush's policy has been to react only when our backs are against the wall and not before and McCain has voted with Bush 90% of the time and, in his own words, was proud of it until he was forced to distance himself from it to try and get elected.McCain is campaigning on his war hero status of 40 years ago and while his service to his country is commendable, he is out-of-touch. He doesn't even know how many houses he owns. When asked by the media how many houses he owns his answer was "I'll have my people get back to you on that." If McCain doesn't have his finger on the pulse of what is going on in his own life I sure don't expect him to have his finger on the pulse of what is going on with the over 300 million people in the U.S. - not past the wealthy anyway. McCain's $5,000 health care initiative does not even keep up with the actual cost of health care. He is out-of-touch. The taxation and Social Security programs of the New Deal under FDR got this country out of The Great Depression and today everyone waits for that refund check or next tax loophole - even the rich - but I have a feeling that if such a program were instituted today the McCain camp would call it Socialism. We give millions, if not billions of dollars in aid packages to underdeveloped countries where people have no health care, food or education because it is the humane thing to do but under McCain's proposed healthcare policies people are in the hole before they start and Obama's healthcare plan covers more Americans than McCain's would. I guess we should be more humane to the rest of the world than to ourselves. : On our shores the McCain campaign calls Obama's healthcare plan Socialism. On foreign shores such a plan is the humane thing to do. Paying for aid to foreign countries through our tax dollars is, in your words, "forced upon (us)" as our own citizens fall through the cracks because of underfunded, failing programs. Humane practices should begin with our own domestic policy. We can't continue this double standard. This country prospered under The Clinton Administration and Americans as a whole were better off yet President Bush took a surplus left by the Clinton Administration and gave the money back to the people creating a deficit. Smart move! : Vote for Obama/Biden for the betterment of all Americans, not just the privlidged few.

Hello, M_M, With all due respect, obviously, the one thing you choose not to "get ...straight" is my suggestion to "Now, let's move on." Any further posts you direct to me will be answered with "Whatever. : " because I am taking the high road and am much more concerned about the undecided voter. Take care.

I made the mistake once of saying to one message board member that we agree to disagree and he came back "No, we don't." so I will say it this way.
I see that moving on thing is working out well for ya. : Hardly surprised, nonetheless... And, for the record, I never refused to agree to disagree with you in the past. I refused to accept you wanting to relativize all opinions and make it a matter of where there was no such thing as good or bad opinions... all were just equal. That was my bugaboo. But while you get on your soapbox wanting to "educate" the undecided voter... you know, I'm feeling rather the same way, this afternoon, so I am interested in keeping it to the purpose of this thread: good ol' politics! So, for that undecided voter out there, let me direct you to an excellent column by Morrissey saying why you should vote McCain/Palin this year! Ed Morrissey, that is. The Case Against Barack Obama Enjoy, everyone!
-
Hello M_M, Just to clarify, when I used the example of a mistake I made stating that we agreed to disagree and you said "No, I don't", I had no idea that you were the one at whom it was directed because it was so long ago that it was not significant to me to remember that it was you. "... that moving on thing is working well for (me) but I'm "Hardly surprised, nonetheless..." that you remember it was directed at you. : Your paragraph about what your "bugaboo" is makes no sense to me. I was never on a "soapbox". I merely expressed my opinion just like anyone else on the message board. You should try the "moving on" thing. It's your choice. In keeping my promise, I respectfully end with "Whatever"

I don't think one President would be able to change that, rather the educational system is a product of the people. What are the people doing to support their children. When there are libraries all over the US, I really don't agree that there isn't opportunity, just irresponsible kids and parents that expect knowledge and opportunity to be spoon fed to them. What did the government do to help educate Lincoln?

Beware when the government is able to limit your income, it only trickles down. If I run a company, why should the government be able to limit what I pay someone to run it? A little sidetrack .... a bit of humor .... a bit of I get this comic idea of Barack playing a "three card" game. He has three cards and he keeps shuffling them - and he asks you to guess one of the cards - you follow his hand - he flips the cards - you guessed it right every time - now the Democrat party gets in there and pretends to guess - (they are "in on the game") they win money every time - now you think - if they can win - so can I .... you put your money in - and grin because you start winning - because he is smooth - he tricks you on the next hand - and takes all your winnings -- you never saw it coming - but he knew it all along suckers as he smirks a laugh grunt and sees another crowd of possible victims - er uh hum ... I mean voters
-
I get concerned about the Democrats having a majority in the House, The Senate and the President positions ..... then they can plow through a whole bunch of crap bills without too much need for checks and balances - (at most they would only need a few or more Republicans to help some bills make it through-)... and their want to turn this into the U.S.S.A. as I said before - I hope their promises fail. And the other guy would do pretty much the same -- only it would take him longer to add that extra "S" to the country.

Be happy with what you get, healthcare shouldn't be free either. It is a service, not a right. As with Obama and McCain we have different views and that's just the way things are. I will say that to blame the whole mortgage debacle on the Clinton Administration assumes that no American got a variable rate mortgage or has defaulted on their payments while Bush 43 was in office. : As for the $5,000 healthcare benefit, "be happy with what you get" : when it still doesn't cover the cost of buying healthcare when Obama's plan will cover most Americans? We are the only country in the world that does not have a government assisted healthcare program and our healthcare system is a vastly overpriced mess of a rip-off. Why not apply that analogy to a person's mortgage and say the government will give you $5,000 towards your mortgage payments but you'll probably still default on your mortgage anyway but be happy with what you get. : The same people who are afraid of the changes Obama wants to make to take this country in a new, positive direction are the same people who look forward to the tax refund and Social Security retirement check which were established by the Government to get us out of the Great Depression. The difference is most of us were born after income tax and Social Security were established so it is accepted as the way things are but when we may very well be on the verge of another Depression everyone gets scared of "Change". Well, as far as I'm concerned, there is not progress without change. Status quo is not an option when the system is broken and needs to be fixed. With McCain you get an extension of the failed policies of George W. Bush and that is not acceptable to me but I only have one vote and it will be for Obama/Biden so this country can move forward rather than stay stagnant.

Be happy with what you get, healthcare shouldn't be free either. It is a service, not a right. As with Obama and McCain we have different views and that's just the way things are. As for the $5,000 healthcare benefit, "be happy with what you get" : when it still doesn't cover the cost of buying healthcare when Obama's plan will cover most Americans? We are the only country in the world that does not have a government assisted healthcare program and our healthcare system is a vastly overpriced mess of a rip-off. Why not apply that analogy to a person's mortgage and say the government will give you $5,000 towards your mortgage payments but you'll probably still default on your mortgage anyway but be happy with what you get. : You're missing the point - the reason we are the only country in the world that doesn't have a government assisted healthcare plan is part of what makes us AMERICA. You work hard and EARN what you get!! NO GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS HERE! You want socialism - go live in Europe with 50% income tax! That's what Obama proposes - greater taxes for greater government provided benefits. That's where we disagree - I would rather work hard and PAY for my benefits than to have the government automatically take a portion of my income out to provide them to me. I'd even like the option <gasp> NOT TO HAVE BENEFITS AT ALL and KEEP MY PAY. Let me choose what I spend my income on - NOT THE GOVERNMENT! Why should some tax rebate cover the cost of healthcare? What next? Cover my food, gas, electricity, groceries... and as you say, my MORTGAGE? No- the point is that the US government shouldn't play a role in subsidizing ANY of those things. That is the premise of the free market.... Here's a story to help illustrate my point.. see if you can make the comparison.. There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the Prof noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country?s government and install a new communist regime. In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked: ?Do you know how to catch wild pigs?? The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said that it was no joke. ?You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn . They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.? The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in America . The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax 20 cuts, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time. One should always remember two truths: 1) There is no such thing as a free lunch 2) and you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself. If you see that all of this wonderful government ?help? is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life, then you will probably be really angry and respond to this with nonsense diatribe. Either way, God help us when the gate slams shut.
